Ariana curled up in the dark corner of the cave, her body shivering not just from the cold, but from the raw pain that coursed through her. A deep gash on her side throbbed, an open wound from a sharp tree branch that had grazed her. In the damp silence of the cave, she felt the chill of infection setting in, yet she lacked any means to treat it. Shifting into her wolf form seemed an impossible feat, and the thought of hunting for food or finding water was a distant dream.

She was starving and dehydrated, but she was too afraid to leave the cave. She had no idea if Ethan was still looking for her. She had no one to help her, no one to comfort her. She was alone.
