Cara's hands momentarily froze at Cain's sudden question, the bowl in her grasp trembling like a leaf caught in a gust of wind. She turned to face him, meeting his gaze that was as sharp and piercing as a hawk's. He was waiting, his eyes practically drilling holes into her, eager for her response.
"Oh, that?" Cara responded, her voice light and airy, as if they were discussing the weather. "Just a little something I picked up from a merchant."
"A merchant?" Cain echoed, his brows furrowing deeper, suspicion creeping into his voice.
The only merchants he knew were those crafty goblins, always ready to swindle an unsuspecting victim.
But the thought of them venturing into the depths of the Adarna forest was ludicrous. And Cara, his sweet, naive Cara, encountering them? Impossible.
