Capítulo 3: Chapter 3

Jim and his parents had a lot of work during the summer, while his parents did most things Jim, as head of the house, needed to sign of on them. The house elfs from Malfoy arrived the day they moved in and had made the place livable. His dad, Edward, had taken care of hiring new staff and drawing up contracts, while Jim and Linda had taken inventory of the house. To say they were rich would be an understatement.

These things taken care of, it was finally time to prepare for Hogwarts. They had gotten another letter detailing Jims pack list and had made their way towards Diagon Alley. As they didn't have to get money from Gringots they could get straight to the shopping.

First they bought all the necessary books for his classes as well as some other books that sounded interesting. After that they bought all the necessary things that were listed under the potions category and lastly they went to Ollivanders for his wand.

As they entered the shop, they saw that a girl was already talking with the man at the counter. Her two parents standing further back and turned around as they opened the door. "Linda?" the woman asked surprised, her husband seemed a bit confused.

"Jean! What are you doing here, don't tell me little Hermione goes to Hogwarts too." Linda exclaimed excited.

"Your son too? This is so exciting, to think that our kids are going to become wizards." Jean said.

"You have to tell me everything, I haven't seen you in ages." Linda replied with a smile on her face. But in this second Hermione turned around "Mom, you are distracting me."

"Sorry honey" Jean replied and turned to Linda "How about we waited in the café I saw at the corner?" Linda thought for a second and asked Jim "Jim is it okay for you, if we wait outside?" Jim nodded "And please tell Hermione as well, you remember her right?"

Jim couldn't really remember her. He knew Jean and her husband had visited them sometimes when he was younger and probably brought their daughter as well, but he had no concrete memories. He just recognized Jean from the pictures of his mom and her at home. "Sure, I will do it."

The adults left the store and Jims attention wandered to the girl speaking with the man behind the counter, probably Ollivander.

"Try this one," Ollivander said and offered Hermione a wand "10 inches, vine wood with a phoenix feather core."

She took the wand and waved it but nothing seemed to happen. "Okay, not that one. I think I know which one." he said and went into the back and pulled another box. "10 3/4 inches, vine wood this time with a dragon heartstring core."

Hermione took the wand and waved it. Colorful sparks shot out the top making the wandmaker as well as Hermione smile. "Seems like the wand chose you. I wish you all the best Ms. Granger and always remember, if you take good care of your wand it will take good care of you."

She put the wand in a holster she had already chosen and put it on her waist paid and turned around to leave when Jim held his hand out towards her. "Hi I'm Jim. I'm Lindas son, our parents are at the café outside."

Hermione was quiet for a second trying to think of who Linda was. "Linda, the Linda that played football with my mom?" "Yes I think so."

"Okay, are you also starting in Hogwarts this year?" she asked "I'm already so excited, I have already bought all my books and can't wait to read them, you know. It's great to have another wizard going to Hogwarts that I already know. Do you already know which house you want to be sorted into? I'm not sure if I want to be in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor." Hermione said.

"I also can't wait. I've already started reading some things at home but I'm looking forward to the textbooks as well. But I shouldn't keep Ollivander waiting for too long. Let's continue this conversation later. Would you mind waiting for me?" Jim said.

"Sure." Hermione replied as Jim went to the counter.

"What's your name young man?" Ollivander asked.

"Jim, ahem, James Peverell."

"Ohh, our family hasn't had a customer of your house in ages. You know your great-great-great-great-great-grandfather actually taught the my great-great-great-great-grandfather the art of wandmaking. A shame your family disappeared for so long. I guess you are here for a wand then." he stated.

"Yes." Jim replied a bit unsure of what else to say as he didn't know all too much about the history of his family.

Ollivander went to the back and pulled out a box, brought in to the counter and gave it to Jim "Try waving it." Jim did as he was told but nothing happened. Ollivander shook his head "Not this one." And made his way back to the shelves and pulled another box out. This continued for a few minutes until Ollivander said "I'm going to have a look in the backroom, some of the older wands my father made are still their, maybe one of them will suit you."

Ollivander vanished behind a corner leaving Jim waiting. He was really nervous now, could it be that there was no wand for him. That no wand would choose him? He was panicking a bit, when Ollivander came back. In his hand he held a black box, which was shacking wildly in his hand. "Curious, most curious. I have never seen a wand behaving like this." He loosened his grip on the box and it flew out of his hand, the box clattering to the floor while the wand that had been inside flew straight into Jims hand.

Jim felt some kind of energy reaching out to him and felt his magic react reaching out to the wand. A warm feeling spread in his body as light flame came into being at the tip of the wand. "15 inches, elder wood with thestral tail hair core. This wand once belonged to an old friend of mine who passed away in the wizarding war. It seems it has chosen a new master." Ollivander said.

"Is it really okay if I take it then?" Jim asked unsure.

"Who am I to say otherwise. The wand chooses the wizard and there is nobody who has any right to interfere." Ollivander replied

Hermione and Jim left Ollivanders together and walked towards the café where their parents were sitting and chatting. They approached the café when Jim had an idea. "How about we get our uniforms first, it seems like our parents are having fun by themselves. No need to get them."

"But they have the rest of the money. Let me get it really quick." Hermione replied and dashed inside. Shortly after she came out with a purse in hand.

The two of them did not know where exactly the store was, so they just followed the street and looked at the shop windows.

"So why do you want to go into Gryffindor? Isn't Ravenclaw so much cooler?" Jim asked her.

"I don't know. I really like learning new things but I would like to be braver and fight for my views and make new friends. I think Ravenclaw could be really lonely with everybody focused on learning all the time. Also Gryffindor has the highest rate of muggleborn wizards and the least hierarchical social environment."

"I didn't know that. Why are there so many muggleborn wizards in Gryffindor. I would've thought they are divided over the houses." Jim inquired.

"I've read that most of the people who opposed the emperor were in Gryffindor. A lot of noble families that had longstanding tradition of being sorted into Gryffindor were wiped out or fell out of favor. Though many of our generation are still attending Hogwarts while there parents are in Azkaban, I just hope they won't treat us a bad as other purebloods."

While talking they had reached 'Madam Malkin's Robes for All Occasions'. Jim opened the door for Hermione and stepped in after her. The store was full with robes hanging from garment rail and a variety of cloths was hanging at the walls.

An older woman greeted them "Hello, how can I help you?"

"We need our uniforms for Hogwarts." Hermione said.

"Ahh yes of course. Would you mind telling me your bloodstatus? It's just for the uniform, they look different."

"We are both muggleborn." Hermione said.

"Ahem, actually I guess I'm not." Jim cut in. "Sorry there was no chance to tell you yet." he said to Hermione.

The older woman looked at him, waiting for him to disclose his status. Jim started blushing "I, I am head of the ancient house of Peverell."

Hermione stared at him in shock but the woman just smiled and said "Alright kids, let us get started on the robes. Young Prince, lets start with you as your robes are much more elaborate than others."

The woman took Jim to another room filled with expensive materials while Hermione was waiting in the front room as a young man entered the room with his mother.
