Heartbreak in its extremity left one feeling no hunger at all.

She had almost vomited bile by the end, nearly fainting from the retching until the wave of nausea finally subsided.

After a long while, she stood up from the floor, weakly covering her mouth, ignoring the tissue that was handed to her from behind, and made her way to the faucet to wash her face.

She lifted her head and saw her own reflection in the mirror.

Samuel Johnson stood behind her, his gaze meeting hers in the reflection.

She lowered her eyes and didn't look at him again.

From meeting to parting, from the seedlings of love to despair, it had taken her fifteen years.

That was enough.

She thought.

It was enough.

To love someone to the point of destroying her own lifetime of happiness was too weighty a cost, after all.

But, it was her own fault; she had no one else to blame.
