Meka ran into her room, tears filling her eyes. Her gaze shifted to where her clothes were kept, and she began to rummage through her things until she found the dagger.

She shook her head and inhaled sharply. No. She shook her head again and placed it back. The tears continued to stream down her cheeks, and images of Jelani kissing the second queen and professing his love for her haunted her thoughts. How could he do this to her? It wasn't fair. Why had he married her then?

After returning from Dede's place two days ago, Meka had decided to keep this to herself and not tell anyone until she became queen. Only then would she make her own decision. But seeing them together in his court room, holding each other tightly, shattered her resolve.

She couldn't deny the way the second queen had looked at him, as if he belonged to her. It was the first time she had seen Jelani appear so vulnerable.
