Sometimes, to like someone, perhaps all you need is to meet once, to have your wish fulfilled, is enough.
Afterwards, everyone goes on to live their own lives.
Untroubled, content, leisurely, self-satisfied!
Some ancients took this spirit to the pinnacle of perfection. Wang Huizhi, a calligrapher from the Eastern Jin Dynasty, was known for his unconventional behavior. There's a legend that one snowy moonlit night, feeling that music was needed to complete the experience of enjoying the snow with wine, he had a servant row him out to see his friend Dai Kui. But as dawn approached and they reached his friend's doorstep, he suddenly had the servant turn the boat around and head back home.
Perplexed, the servant remarked that according to the four major Chinese customs, since they had already come all this way, they should at least follow the protocol and meet. Wang Huizhi replied – "I originally set out in high spirits, and now that my enthusiasm has waned, why should I see Dai?"
