Capítulo 39: Chapter 39

Heonui and Mimi collided in the aisle.

"What were you doing, Mimi?" Heonui asked angrily, seeing the young lady leave the Prince's room.

"I... I... Nothing, Your Royal Highness." Mimi lowered her head. "He is awake."

"What??" Heonui ran to Wang Han's chambers and, almost flying inside, found that Wang Han was slowly, blinking frequently, opening his eyes.

He kept trying to remember how it happened and what exactly happened to him, but much to no avail. He recalled the last moments when he was on the battlefield. Before that, in the evening, they read the disposition of the upcoming plans, and he clearly remembered how loudly he argued with the voivodes and got very hot. By the morning, when they had already left for the rebels, everyone was tormenting and fretting, and the Prince's patience broke, and he resolutely went first in the ranks, shouting and swearing. Noticing him from the hill so close, the ranks of the rebels immediately rushed forward, and the massacre began.

Prince Wang Han ordered the rear battalions to defend themselves, and he himself raised the first regiment to attack. But he didn't have time to do much because as soon as he jumped on his horse and rushed forward, a long copper spear was fired at him from somewhere in the forest, and immediately, he remembered himself under the hoof of his own horse, which trampled him on the right and rushed somewhere like a wild one, and he surrounded by wild screams and screams from all sides, he plunged into utter darkness and did not even feel anymore how several soldiers walked right over him, and others picked him up and carried him somewhere.

"How is that possible?" Heonui did not understand, rushing to his bed and shouting, "Doctor! Doctor here!"

Wang Han tried to move, but the spasms prevented him.

"Do not move, I beg you; be still, Your Royal Highness," Heonui pleaded, stroking his pale face.

He finally opened his eyes wide and looked at her.

"Heonui?"

And here she was. Heonui the Dutchess. How exhausted she was! Was she by my side? The Prince exhaled painfully. Is that why she hated battles and military glory so much? His thoughts were confused. He did not like the way she looked now, not because grief had tired her so much, but because she was grieving now because of him. He had always seen her beautiful, even in the days of her mourning for Wang Tae, and even then, he had seen her so holy, but now her face in tears was unpleasant to him and echoed in his heart with pain. He looked around. The room was bright and clean. And he remembered how, through his suffering, he inhaled terrible air mixed with his own blood and flies… Those flies kept buzzing in his ears, and he could not shoo them away; he could not even pull the ice rags off his body because all his limbs seemed to be paralyzed. Did he lose any of his arms or legs? He did not understand now. He blinked again and looked around again. There was a thick Bible on the table. He smiled with one corner of his mouth and shifted his gaze to the Princess.

"That is right, Your Royal Highness, I am here," she whispered, wiping away her tears. "I am here!"

"Heonui, I heard the news, the Queen, how is she d—"

"She is alive, she is alive!" answered Heonui, trembling all over. "But you scared me so! I thought I would never hear your voice! Oh, Wang Han!"

Heonui wept. She no longer had the strength to fight the oncoming tears, which she swallowed all these days and nights, sitting next to his bed and worrying, changing his bandages, treating wounds. How many times did she run away to the window, not wanting the doctor to notice her tears when they opened the bloody wounds of Wang Han, gritting his teeth from suffering. But here he was, alive, looking at her with a look, albeit empty, but promising that her experiences were over and she would not have to go to the grave of two.

"Who schemed to hurt her? Did you find out?" Wang Han asked, trying to get up, but immediately fell back onto the bed.

"They are looking into it but haven't found anything yet," replied Heonui.

"I shall take care of it now..."

The doctor ran into the room.

"How are you feeling, Your Royal Highness?" he said with a smile of relief on his face.

"I am fine," the Prince replied, squeezing Heonui's hand in gratitude. He looked at her. "Have you been to Wang Tae's grave?"

Heonui's face changed. The Prince barely opened his eyes and asked her that?

"I visited only once," she said. "I could not do it more."

Wang Han closed his eyes.

"You dream of forgetting him. It is cruel."

Heonui removed her hand from him. As if with a huge needle, his words pierced her conscience. Why was he saying all this?

The doctor, not wanting to become an unwitting witness to the scene, coughed politely and asked Heonui Alexandrovna to give him time to bandage his wounds and go to the kitchen and call the maids to prepare a hearty dinner for the awakened Prince for a quick recovery.

Heonui obeyed and, bowing to both men, left the room.

Mimi watched from afar.
