Capítulo 32: Chapter 32

King Li-en personally replied to Prince Wang Han that the visit he reported in the letter would be a great happiness for the family, that they were always glad to see him as a member of the family, and that especially Heonui was waiting for him cordially.

Wang Han was very much surprised by such an answer, after many letters from Mimi, because the general mood of the letters almost assured him that Heonui did not want to see him. And therefore, after rereading King Lee Song's answer several times, Wang Han hastily informed the bride that they were going to visit the Li-en family in their possessions and personally tell them about the wedding day.

"So, you have made your decision, have not you?" the Princess could not believe her ears. "Have you decided on the exact date?"

"The wedding will take place at the end of August, in my brother's favourite month. He says that 'only in August the sun laughs, then only the sweet heat, only in this clear summer month, there is the inspiration of the pen.' He, I remember, was writing a long collection of poetry at that time, and, according to his own retelling, he seemed to lose any happiness and desire to write during the cold months. And only the end of summer, the month of August, revived in him the desire for creativity. Therefore, I see it as a great romance to celebrate such an important day in August."

Princess Chenghuan gasped and threw her arms around the Prince's neck.

They set off the next morning, and the spring sun had already spread its rays to wake up and bake, like in summer, nature. Wang Han was in a strange mood. Chenghuan noticed this as soon as they got into the carriage — after such a happy decision, he looked serious and detached today and spoke very little. On the way, he even began to look into the distance through the window, as if thinking about something strongly. But Chenghuan did not dare to interrupt his thoughts so as not to spoil the barely outlined details about her marriage. And so, all the way to Li-en's mansion, they drove in absolute silence, and only the rattle of carriage wheels, the dissatisfied snorting of horses, and the whistling of lackey accompanied them.

As soon as they emerged from the darkness of the carriage, they were met by the King and Queen together, which sincerely pleased Wang Han, who cherished little hope for An Ha's recovery. But she, completely in the spirit and in a pleasant mood, smiling gracefully with her weak smile, cordially greeted him and Comtesse Chenghuan, meticulously asking about the road, the weather, and the latest developments in personal and state affairs.

They arrived surrounded by a large retinue — but, it should be noted, the servants were on the bride's side, and they were just as friendly and willing to speak only in Chinese. As soon as they entered the guest hall — a huge one, with wide windows without any curtains — perfectly equipped to the taste of the high circle. Queen An Ha did not want to lose any more sun for a minute, and therefore, she got rid of all the awnings on all the windows in the house — and did well with it, for the spring sun looked pleased and walked from corridor to corridor impressively, rolling up the stairs to the floors, walking through the kitchens, and even peeking into the key slot of the pantry. Wang Han smiled.

"Oh, and you have a beautiful bride!" admired Lee Song, bowing to soon-to-be Queen Chenghuan.

"Oh, your compliment is so kind and generous!" she was embarrassed, passing to the sofa and the table where hot tea and tart were already waiting for the guests.

"She is very beautiful, I agree," Wang Han nodded in agreement. "Where is Lady Heonui? May I know?"

"Oh, she is in the backyard, by the stables—I think you instilled in her a deep love for horses! She spends days disappearing with them — caring for them, feeding and grooming — sticking out in the obscene company of a groom!" Queen An Ha threw up her hands, and everyone laughed. "Let's go have tea! Later, we will have a big lunch. I have already ordered everything!"

"I will go with your permission to see the Princess," Wang Han asked King Lee Song, standing next to him quietly, with a meekness not peculiar to him, adjusting his elegant riding coat over a doublet sewn into the waist under camisole.

"Of course, Your Royal Highness! Let that one over there — and he nodded at the full-fledged servant in a cap that had fallen off somewhere — Swe-hee, to guide you," the King replied with a smile.

The ladies sat down. Seeing King Li-en escorting Wang Han to the street, Chenghuan asked after him:

"Your Royal Highness, where are you going? And should I go with you?"

"No, dear Chenghuan, thank you. Enjoy the conversation with Wangbi An Ha. I'll be there soon," Wang Han bowed and left.

His heart was pounding wildly.
