…
Leviathan's journey had never stopped.
As the days and nights changed, Lin witnessed the differences between various environments and living creatures. Her knowledge of various things continued to increase, and several of her bases were now fully developed and could operate normally.
But just how far had Leviathan swum?
Lin didn't know. She didn't know how to accurately describe 'distance' or 'length', nor did she deliberately try to remember them. She simply continued to swim towards places she had never been before.
Lin had been studying the control of pigments for a long time. Although the cells could now produce a green color, they couldn't absorb light as nutrients, so the green cells must have some other secrets that weren't as simple as just being green.
Lin carefully observed the green cells for a long time, even eating over a hundred million of them before she slowly understood what was going on inside. The green color was actually a by-product, a type of light that wasn't absorbed but reflected instead.
The green cells were able to combine many different substances together. These substances would absorb light of other colors, such as red or blue, then mix the absorbed light with other substances to create edible things like small crystals.
This process would also produce by-products like oxygen, but they didn't seem to absorb oxygen, so they just threw it out.
However, the green cells would absorb oxygen in a dark environment, just like any other living creature.
They also didn't absorb green light, so they just reflected it back out, which was why they looked green.
Although it seemed simple, the process was extremely complicated. Lin had no idea how to combine the substances, which was much more difficult than creating crustaceans.
Right now, Lin only gave the cells the ability to reflect green light, but this had nothing to do with eating light. Lin hadn't even completed the basics yet.
So how did the green cells do it? When Lin preyed on them, they didn't even try to hide. Although some species could produce toxins, they were relatively weak, so Lin easily evolved a resistance against them.
How could a creature with such high intelligence accomplish such a complicated task?
Lin didn't know. In fact, the higher Lin's intelligence, the less she understood what 'intelligence' was.
Since that was the case, she decided to leave it to the cells. Lin could have a cell eat a green cell, then give it the idea of 'combining substances that absorb light'.
After the first step was completed, she would give it the next step, which was' combining the absorbed light with other non-food substances to create food '.
From Lin's observation, she knew that the Green Cells seemed to use a small non-oxygen air bubble and water.
When Qi, water, and light combined, an edible, crystal-like substance would be born, but Lin didn't know the exact process, so she left it to the cells to deal with.
The automatic action of the cells can sometimes be very useful, but it will take a long time anyway, and Lin will continue her journey.
Now, the Leviathan was close to the surface of the water. The surface of the water was swaying restlessly, sometimes rolling, sometimes rotating. Lin knew that it was caused by the air. The turbulence of the air made the water surface restless, accompanied by countless small water columns falling from the air domain, smashing into the water surface and forming circles of ripples.
Because it was daytime, Lin could see it very clearly.
Above the surface of the water, the sky that should have been extremely dazzling during the day was now covered by a layer of gray. The intensity of the ultraviolet rays was also much weaker, so Leviathan could get close to the surface of the water to observe.
Lin once again witnessed the same phenomenon as before. An extremely bright light flashed across the sky. Although the light was brief, the moment it appeared, it was enough to illuminate the entire area, causing the air and water to tremble.
That's' lightning ', right? And 'sky', that's also a new word.
Strange words, Lin couldn't understand them yet. She only felt that the phenomenon was interesting, but that wasn't the only thing that attracted Lin.
Not far ahead, a large group of flatworms was swimming close to the surface of the water. Because the ultraviolet rays had weakened, they were able to get close to this place.
Right, I can't call them 'worms', Lin found a new word to describe these creatures with backbones.
'Fish'.
That's right, let's call them flatfish. Although Lin didn't think that there was much difference between flatworms and them, she liked to use new words.
So far, Lin had only seen two kinds of flatfish. One was the ones with a serrated mouth that attacked her, and the other was the one in front of her, which didn't have any attack power and only fed on single-celled organisms.
The flatfish gathered on the surface of the water and were doing something unknown. Lin asked the Leviathan to watch from a certain distance so that it wouldn't scare them away.
Lin liked to observe the activities of other creatures, so that she could occasionally learn something interesting or useful. She wouldn't ignore even the smallest of creatures.
The flatfish swam for a while, then they stuck together in pairs and ejected a large amount of white liquid from the small holes at the bottom of their tails.
Are those cells?
Lin released a small eyeball and swam closer. She found that the liquid was indeed small cells. One of them was oval in shape with a few tentacles, while the other was spherical. The ones with tentacles would try to drill into the spherical cells, but the spherical cells would harden and prevent other tentacle cells from drilling in.
The leaf-shaped insects had also done this before, but Lin still didn't understand what they were doing.
The flatfish's behavior was even more unique than the leaf-shaped insects'. After they released the cells, they slowly became motionless and floated in the water.
It was as if they were dead.
The Leviathan swam closer to the school of flatfish, reached out with its tentacle, grabbed one, and tore it open. It then let the eyeball into its body to take a look.
… Are they really dead?
No, they weren't actually dead, but most of their cells had decreased their activity, including the cells in their brain. They seemed to be in a state of 'hibernation', and the nutrient reserves in their body were almost depleted. It was no different from being dead.
They weren't attacked by viruses, and their cells weren't damaged. In other words, the only reason was … They were all committing suicide.
This was crazy.
But there really wasn't anything wrong with their brains, which was what confused Lin the most.
Many creatures had behaviors that Lin didn't understand, but this was the first time she had seen such a crazy behavior.
And so, Lin released the Collector to catch some of the reassembled cells that the flatfish had spat out and brought them back to the Leviathan.
Then, Lin created a hardened transparent sphere and stored them inside, planning to observe their changes for a long time. What kind of special ability did this thing have? It was something that the flatfish could create with their lives.
Although Lin found it extremely unreasonable, she knew that they must have their own reasons. 'Intelligence' was a very complicated thing …
As for the 'hibernating' flatfish around her, not a single one was wasted. They were all turned into Lin's reserves.
The Leviathan's body had grown by 50% during this trip, but the amount of food it obtained was enough for it to grow by at least three times. However, Lin didn't continue to grow. Instead, she stored more food.
Lin had a compression storage method, which was to compress a large number of fat cells together without providing them with oxygen. This would reduce a lot of space since they weren't moving anyway.
So, it was time to continue traveling.
Lin left the surface of the water that was filled with lightning and uneasiness and slowly dived deeper …
At the bottom of the sea, a huge beach appeared before the Leviathan's eyes. This kind of environment was quite common, but this time, Lin found it strange.
This beach was filled with many large circular holes. There were a lot of them, and Lin could see a total of ten of them in her field of vision. There were also many creatures moving around them, such as trilobites and flatfish.
These holes were just a little wider than the Leviathan, so it was just enough for it to enter and explore.
Of course, Lin wouldn't let the Leviathan enter directly. Instead, she created a new type of soldier to explore the dangerous area.
