Zayn looked into Ariana's serious face at that time. He knows she doesn't play around with her request this time, but he does wonder why she suddenly makes this kind of request.

He didn't know what to say, nor was he offended. Just confused. But for her, at this moment right now, he agreed in silence.

And to Ariana, even if she didn't hear his voice she knew her request would be fulfilled. If it's Zayn, then it will.
