The examination covers everything from astronomy to geography, mastering languages and advanced mathematics, as well as decoding the rigor of Buddhist literature. At this stage, around 85% of the candidates are usually eliminated.
The second round is the martial test, where opponents are decided by draw. Competing in pairs, this round eliminates half of the remaining 15%.
The surviving 7% move on to the third round, the final test.
This stage is usually the most mysterious. The candidates are confined in a room where they face a test of courage and loyalty. For those who are eliminated, this stage is usually the most dreaded.
Only two people come out from the room in the end.
