A short while later, Aubree let go of her hesitation.
"If I asked someone to take you back to Pethkids right now, with the current medical technology, your lung disease could still be cured," she told her.
Isabella stumbled over her words.
Aubree considered how it wasn't the possibility of surviving for longer that threw her off balance, but the mention of Pethkids.
Isabella's voice shook slightly, "A-are you from Pethkids?"
Aubree nodded.
"How is... how is it doing now?" asked Isabella.
"It's progressing well. It's the largest city in the South Region, with a thriving economy. The people live in peace and prosperity," responded Aubree.
Tears shimmered in Isabella's eyes.
"That's nice. Too bad I can never go back," she said softly.
Aubree sighed, turned, and moved to walk through the door. She took a step but then retreated back.
She stood at the entrance; her shadow fell on the ground whilst she turned her back on the person in the room.
