Capítulo 462: Ishtar

"Not bad, no, I should say, you've done pretty well."

Gilgamesh spoke with a smile, couldn't find the right words to praise Arkhan enough.

"So, what kind of reward do you want? Is it treasure? Whatever it is, I can fulfill it for you!"

"Forget about treasures, I'm not interested in that stuff." Arkhan shook his head. "But I do have something I want to discuss with you."

"Hou? Spill it." Gilgamesh raised an intrigued eyebrow.

After hearing Arkhan's words, he sat on his throne, one hand supporting his face, the other tapping the armrest, his face showing a pensive expression.

"Turning the whole city into a Temple-level territory... Sounds like a pretty good idea. If it works, the power your elder sister could wield here would be terrifying."

"It'd also add an extra layer of security for the final showdown." Arkhan added while shrugging his shoulders.

He didn't know exactly how strong Morgan had become, but he figured she was nearing the level of a god. Moreover, with a city-sized Temple-level territory as a pillar, her power would probably be enough to take down even gods.

After all, this place was still in the Age of Gods, where the true ether was denser than in Britain, making it easier to reach the Root. For top-tier mages like Morgan, there was no better location to showcase their skills than here.

"Speaking of which, your idea somewhat aligns with a certain plan of mine."

Gilgamesh's plan, of course, referred to the secret weapon he was preparing for Tiamat, known as 'Dingir'.

Essentially, it involved building 360 cannons on the walls of Uruk and launching divine weapons as projectiles. It was an extravagant and wasteful tactic that only Gilgamesh, with his countless treasures, could afford.

However, even with its simplicity, launching and detonating required an unimaginable amount of magical energy. Even if Gilgamesh exhausted his body, it wouldn't be enough to fill that terrifying gap.

Therefore, from the moment he made this plan, Gilgamesh had been prepared to die, a fact he hadn't shared with anyone else.

However, if Morgan turned Uruk into her territory, she could tap into the ley line beneath the city. Before they dried up, she would have access to an endless amount of magical energy, enough to cover the consumption of the Dingir.

Although it was disrespectful to squander the treasures of a king, if sacrificing some material possessions could protect his people, Gilgamesh wouldn't mind this kind of offense. After all, a true kingdom was made up of living beings, not cold artifacts.

"Alright, the decision is made."

Gilgamesh straightened up his body, his crimson snake-like eyes locking onto Arkhan.

"Go ahead and do it, this is the king's decree."

"Wait a minute, Your Majesty." Siduri chimed in, her brows furrowed with worry. "Maybe it's better to discuss this with Goddess Ishtar. Knowing her temper, if she finds out her territory's been replaced, she might throw a fit."

"Discuss or not, it's all the same." Gilgamesh waved a dismissive hand. "That stubborn goddess wouldn't agree to anything anyway. Uruk is under my rule, and anything on this land follows my will. As for that troublesome goddess who's only good at causing trouble, hmph, she should be grateful for the offerings she's been enjoying for so long thanks to my kindness."

"Hah?! I can't just let that kind of insult slide!"

*BOOM!*

With a sudden woman's voice, a thunderous noise echoed above the throne room as the intricately carved ceiling was blasted open, revealing a gaping hole.

A slender woman descended through the hole, a massive and majestic bow hovering like a guardian beside her.

Her luscious black hair swayed with her displeasure, framing her face as she floated in the air with an aura of both coolness and divine inviolability.

Unmistakably, she was the Goddess of Venus, Ishtar.

With her arms crossed, Ishtar gazed down at Gilgamesh, her delicate and charming cheeks displaying a wild and malicious intent, making it clear at first glance that she was someone not to be trifled with.

"It's really pathetic, Gilgamesh. I heard that even a demigod like you couldn't endure seven days and nights of continuous work."

Ishtar sat on her bow, legs crossed, her face full of mockery.

"As long as you kneel down right now and offer me praises reverently, then I might consider helping you through this crisis."

"Guhahaha! Oh, pitiful goddess, it seems you're not quite aware of what you're about to face, huh?" Gilgamesh laughed heartily from his throne, then smirked with mockery.

"Oh? Even facing death, you still wear that arrogant face, huh?"

Ishtar squinted her eyes, causing the scent of tension to thicken in the air. However, without warning, this unpredictable goddess suddenly waved her hand dismissively.

"Whatever, I didn't come here to bother you this time. Where are my offerings? Today should be the day when the people present their offerings to me, right?"

"Offerings? Guhahaha!"

Gilgamesh burst into laughter again as if he had heard a hilarious joke.

"Ishtar, did you accidentally fall from the heavens and hit your head? Do you not realize how much damage you've caused to the people of Uruk so far? Yet, you have the nerve to come here asking for offerings?"

"Well... I was also trying to protect the people of Uruk..." Ishtar glanced around nervously. "After all, I've repelled so many demonic beasts, isn't it fair to ask for some reward?"

"Hmph, it's really pathetic for a goddess to plunder the wealth of ordinary people. There couldn't be another goddess as shameful as you in the heavens or on earth." Gilgamesh mocked without reservation.

"You bastard! Don't go too far! Do you really think I won't lay a finger on you just because this is Uruk?!" Ishtar shouted angrily.

Gilgamesh suddenly took out a superb sapphire from the Gate of Babylon, the flawless gem instantly captured Ishtar's gaze, rendering her speechless.

"Considering your disgraceful image and the immense losses you've brought to the people of Uruk, I have decided to dismiss you."

Gilgamesh flicked the sapphire casually, and it arched through the air before landing on the ground.

"From today onward, Uruk's guardian will be someone else."

"Wh-What did you say?!"

Ishtar was thunderstruck by his declaration, snapping out of the sapphire's allure. Her eyes, as red as rubies, stared at Gilgamesh in disbelief.

"You mean, I won't receive offerings anymore?!"

"Isn't that obvious?"

Watching Ishtar's shocked expression, Gilgamesh couldn't help but smile with satisfaction.
