Nell whipped her head from me to the man, realizing there were indeed similarities between our appearances, while Ruith grew concerningly attentive to my injured leg. I knew that look in his eyes, that disastrous protectiveness that consumed him whenever he saw me hurt.
"Simon, are you sure that's him?" he asked distractedly, gaze narrowing in angst as blood slowly leaked from the rip in my leg. I could tell he was trying to calculate how I'd gotten it.
The man before us perched on his desk and removed his glasses to clean the lenses calmly on his vest. When he returned them to his eyes, he studied me with a smile that was almost…warm. Containing all the soft and welcoming characteristics of flickering candlelight. My heart melted from the heat of it.
Part of me wanted to turn into a puddle right here, while another wanted to approach the familiar man and hold him close to me.
I didn't know what to do with myself.
