[Hikigaya Hachiman's POV]
Vampire. A blood-sucking Demon. Their most notable trait, other than their fangs, was their pale skin. I looked down at my arms to inspect my skin and mentally checked that trait out. Truthful to their name, Vampires sucked blood to keep on living. My eyes met the fidgeting blonde in the room, freezing her for whatever reason. As much as I hated humans for their hypocrisy, I didn't think I had the strength to feed on them.
"I don't know when I am going to feel hungry, but is there any chance that I don't have to kill the person whose blood I suck?"
"…huh?" the blonde answered dumbly, making me massage my eyes in exasperation. "Oh, you don't have to kill to satiate your urge to drink blood. Moreover, you don't even need to feed on blood if you are not preparing for a battle. Eating human food is enough to keep you alive."
My questioning glare seemed to be enough to strike my point across as she immediately sputtered a response. "Uh…I didn't have any intention to feed on your blood before that accident—not at all! The scent of your blood screwed with my head and I couldn't control myself. By the time I regained my mind, I already sucked you dry. You would die if I left you alone, so I decided to turn you into my thrall," she explained rapidly.
"Am I...your slave?"
"I guess you can consider yourself that. Though, you don't have to worry since I will only use my control over you to prevent you from attacking me."
I stared at the blonde dubiously and she gave me an assuring smile in return. It would have quelled my doubt if it wasn't twitching ever so slightly, insinuating anything assurance. Idly noticing that my nails had gotten slightly longer and sharper, I put my fingers together and suddenly thrust my hand at the blonde's abdomen. Of course, I had no intention to hurt her, so I stopped my hand when it was a centimeter before her abdomen.
Slightly giddy upon finding out that I could move faster, I looked up only to meet the blonde's horrified look. "My control is not working," she muttered before she took a step back as if she had just encountered a pervert. Oy oy, you are hurting me, you know? After what you did to me, isn't it proper to pay you back?
As I was about to justify my action, Chuuni-chan pounced on me. In the blink of an eye, I found myself pinned on the bed. I was surprised at how calm I was but immediately discarded it since I could barely feel my heart beating before. I would like to think about whether I could be called alive due to the lack of a heartbeat if Chuuni-chan wasn't growling above me with her fangs out. Despite so, she still looked stunning.
"What have you done? How could you escape our master-slave contract?" she glowered at me fiercely.
"I am new to this Vampire thing. What do you expect me to know?" I sighed out.
"Don't lie! I knew something was wrong with you when you weren't enamored by my charm."
"I can pretend that I am enamored now if that is any consolation."
"Don't joke around!"
Chuuni-chan brought her face close to me, allowing me to breathe in her strangely sweet breath. I might sound like a pervert, but I didn't mean it in a lewd way. If any, I believed the insinuation was quite sickening considering what she had just consumed—my blood. I was about to question my sanity for wanting to have a taste of my blood when I became suddenly aware of something: Chuuni-chan was sitting on my groin.
Hoping that my transition to Vampire had done something to my raging teenager hormones, I was utterly disappointed when something that was not the shield hero began to rise. Fortunately, Chuuni-chan was too focused on interrogating me to take note of that. Unfortunately, though, her enthusiasm in the interrogation also made her unaware that she was grinding her groin against mine.
Her unintentional action made me unable to focus on her questions. She picked up on that quickly and quietly looked at the line of my sight. Unannounced, something clenched down there. I whimpered slightly at the sensation and the pillar of masculinity finally stood erected.
Ding-dong!
I clasped my hands mentally and hoped that my enlightenment would somehow do something to the pain I was about to receive. Saying goodbye to Komachi, Mom, and my imaginary friends; I closed my eyes and smiled serenely. Ah, Buddha. This student of yours has finally reached nirvana. I waited and…nothing happened. My curiosity got the better of me, so I opened my eyes. I found the beautiful woman clad in a red and black dress covering her red face.
"I swear it was purely biological, so don't sue me, please. I will take responsibility and pay you millions of yen as compensation for this traumatic experience, so, please, keep this between us." Great, Hachiman! You have just successfully made yourself sound like an alleged sexual predator. The implication of my words hit me like a truck, causing me to cringe.
"How vile…. Not only are you not affected by the contract, but you also lust after my body," Chuuni-chan muttered as she uncovered her face, allowing me to see her usual complexion. Then, with the Yukinoshita stare, she said, "You are the most terrifying Vampire I have ever encountered."
Gah!
The sincerity behind those words pierced my chest, hit my heart, and shredded it to pieces. It became my turn to cover my face as I didn't want to show her my pathetic crying visage. To be even called creepy by a creepy Vampire…just how creepy I am? Should I feel proud or cry? Ah, right, I should cry. So, why can't I cry, damn it!?
"H-Hey…I didn't mean it in a bad way."
I was salvaged from the sea of depressing thoughts when I felt a gentle hand above mine. Chuuni-chan pried my hands off my face and looked at me worriedly before turning away not long after. Thankfully, she was just embarrassed by her action and not disgusted by my look as I noticed the blush on her face. I relaxed and let my hands fall to the side.
"I was just…surprised by what happened. Don't worry; I am not going to sue you because what happened was also partly my fault. I shouldn't have put us in this…compromising position in the very first place."
"Good. A woman with a working head," I remarked. "If I was two years younger, I would have confessed to you and get rejected immediately. Though, I have to say I like you."
"Eh?"
As the flustered Chuuni-chan looked anywhere but in my direction, I found myself wondering how I got so smooth. I felt so free after becoming a Vampire. Was it the knowledge of being superior to humans? I felt like I could truly become the hedonist I aspired to be. I was somehow convinced I already had the power to fully tune out people's useless comments—genuinely this time. I could finally become the lone wolf and prove Hiratsuka-sensei wrong!
"Ku-Ku-Ku…" Chuuni-chan immediately tensed upon hearing my villainous laugh, forcing me to cover my mouth. "Sorry; force of habit."
"Are you sure this is your first time becoming a Vampire?" Chuuni-chan looked at me dubiously. "You behave like those stuck-up Vampires I killed," she muttered, which I wisely ignored.
"Can you revert someone to human after turning them into a Vampire?"
"The chance of success is dismal, but there are some cases of success."
"What happened to those failed attempts?"
"The person in question turned into a Ghoul, which is just a mindless creature who only cares about eating humans."
With that said, my intention of asking Chuuni-chan to revert me to human was squashed and disintegrated. I was never good with anything luck-related, so I should not tempt fate. Nodding to myself as I embraced my new identity, I asked Chuuni-chan to get down from my body. She shyly complied, allowing me to stand up. It brought me to two realizations. First, I am now just half a head shorter than her. Second, my clothes were a bit tight.
"I might have to get used to my body for quite some time," I remark faintly in fascination at my sudden growth spurt.
"I can help you with that. I also need to teach you how to live as a Vampire," Chuuni-chan commented. "In fact, I think you need to call your family and say that you are going to spend some time camping with your friend."
My eyes widened in realization as I heard Chuuni-chan mentioned my family. I had accepted my abnormality but how was I going to explain it to my family?
"You don't have to hide anything. Just act as if nothing happened but don't tell them anything either. People are awfully dull. They won't pay attention to anything before their eyes unless it is trying so hard to get away from their eyes," Chuuni-chan supplied helpfully.
"Ah, that is what we call the Streisand effect," I added.
"Anyway, just call your family and tell them that. Don't bother to lie, but don't say the truth either. Convince yourself as you convince them that you are going to spend your time camping with your friend."
Following the advice, I did just that.
