Capítulo 5: Arrested

'What in the…'

Ace felt as if his soul was leaving his body as he watched his out of breath younger brother slump over next to his father's corpse.

His mental attempts at calming himself failed miserably as he felt his heart would leap from his chest at any moment.

"Ahhh."

Hearing the weak cries of Erin, Ace had finally gotten a hold of himself.

"I hate you!" Erin had lifted himself up once more as he gripped his knife and prepared to continue his attack.

"S-Stop!"

Ace reacted just in time to grab his brother's arm and snatch the weapon dripping in blood from him, only to collapse as his nerves began to calm.

He looked down at his hand, or more specifically the knife as he could see his hand shaking as he drifted his eyes to his father's lifeless body.

As much as Ace bigged himself up to be a tough guy, the worse damage he'd ever done in a fight was a few light bruises.

Even when he made his opponents draw blood it was only because he attacked in sensitive areas like their nose.

So to lay eyes on a gruesome murder which happened just inches before him, he felt quite panicked as even now, every breath he took felt harder than the last.

His father's body twitched as blood continuously gushed from his countless open wounds, Erin was covered in blood, and Ace who sat next to him also had blood covering the lower parts of his pants, it all made for quite the gruesome scene.

Ace whipped his head to stare at his brother, though still in shock, he felt calmer now.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" The kind smile he had on his face was nowhere to be seen.

At this moment he wasn't the Ace that was trying to integrate into this new body and become someone dependable for his traumatized brother.

Nor was he trying to fit into the story, he felt the kid before him was crazy.

"Do you have any idea what the fuck you just-!"

BANG!

Just when Ace was yelling at Erin, he had spotted something in his peripheral, he quickly glanced over only to see a woman standing by her door, staring at the grim scene in shock before their eyes met, to which she quickly slammed her door close.

Ace's eyes shot wide open as he could feel his heart begin to race once more.

"W-we have to go." Ace hadn't even allowed his brother the time to react as he quickly dragged him into the apartment.

His mind raced in panic as he ran all throughout the place, quickly grabbing his book bag and throwing whatever he felt necessary or valuable.

Just three minutes later, 2 children in hoodies a tad bit too large for their sizes could be seen sprinting from a rundown apartment complex in the slums.

Ace looked over to his brother who sat against the dirty bricked wall chugging a small sized water bottle as if his life depended on it.

They were now now in a small alleyway riddled with trash and graffiti.

The 2 had been moving nonstop for almost three hours.

Ace had no clue exactly where they were, but he had ignored his brother's countless pleas for them to stop for rest, all in hopes they could get far away from that apartment as possible.

He couldn't help but slightly grit his teeth in annoyance as he slid his back down the wall.

He couldn't believe what had just happened.

He felt completely calmed now so a proper realization had come over him.

Ace buried his head between his legs as he tuned out everything and let his thoughts run.

'Are we criminals now? But that retard was abusive, so isn't it just self defense? Will they let us off because of our age? Damn it! Can we even escape from police? And there was a witness. Should I have just killed her for the best of it? Maybe I should hurry and go back to get her now… Wait, I didn't really do anything, it was all Erin. Should I just abandon him?'

His thoughts came to a stop as he felt a slight tug on his pant leg.

Lifting his head to see Erin who'd now sat just before him,

"I'm sorry… I was just… scared. I thought he hurt you like he did me… sorry… Are we in trouble now?"

Ace let out a light sigh as the back of his head rested on the wall.

The kid's raspy voice was all it took for Ace's thoughts of abandonment to vanquish, never mind his words.

He once more did his best to tack on a reassuring smile as he patted his brother's shoulder.

"It's… it's fine, don't worry Erin. I'll figure something out."

The kid wasn't stupid, he knew of course his actions had caused them great trouble so Ace had no plans on lying to him about that, but instead reassured him he'd do his best to fix it.

But truth be told he had no clue what to do as of now.

In all honesty, even the previous him didn't have much confidence in outsmarting or escaping police, not to mention the current him who was not only a child but also had the burden of Erin. He felt that they were fucked.

An hour later, Ace and his brother still sat in the filthy alleyway as his Erin now sat huddled up to him in fear of the dark.

"We should move around now that it's night out." Ace nudged his brother who'd began to doze off.

"Where are we gonna go?" Erin's low response indicated the effort he'd been putting into staying awake all this time.

Ace pushed himself up as he pulled Erin along with him.

"I'm not sure, but we should try under a bridge or something. We might run into some bad guys if we stay right here any longer. It's the perfect place to commit a crime."

So once more they began to aimlessly walk until they found themselves in front of a place Ace thought would be suitable for rest.

It was deeper into the slums of the city where there were majorly abandoned homes dotted about here and there.

Ace simply picked one of them as they all looked the same.

"Eek!"

Ace had just kicked down the wooden panels blocking the lower half of the door and entered alongside his brother when Erin suddenly let out a shriek.

"W-What is it?" Ace had quickly grabbed his brother, pulling him behind him as he vigantly looked around.

"I think I saw a rat, it was huge."

Erin's meek voice sounded from behind as Ace suppressed the urge to smack the kid upside the head.

He had thought he maybe spotted some homeless guy who already took claim of this spot or something.

"Come on."

Ace sucked his teeth as he walked off, causing Erin to quickly rush to catch up.

They had cleaned up a random spot in a room big enough for the two of them to lay as they used some of the clothes in the bag as pillows.

Ace had rolled over as he struggled to sleep, only to spot his brother whom he thought was fast asleep due to how quiet he'd been, but was actually sitting there staring at him.

"What is it?" Ace had slightly frowned as he questioned Erin. The sight was a tad bit too spooky.

He waited for an answer in silence only to hear soft sniffles the next second.

"I did something bad, and got us in trouble. Thank you for helping me. I'm sorry."

Erin's low voice sounded as Ace began to sit up.

"And even though we're in trouble now… I like how quiet it is now, sorry." Erin's bawling voice had changed into light whimpers of guilt as he spoke.

Ace had slightly clenched his fist. He felt very bad right now.

No, he felt conflicted. He wanted to hug the kid and comfort him, but it was a feeling that made him also feel awkward and slightly uncomfortable.

Compassion was something he was by no means used to showing, nor had he ever been put in a position where he needed to do so.

So the old him, and the new him began to draw contrasts as Ace approached his now sobbing younger brother.

He did what he thought best as he pulled him into a hug and began to pat his back.

He said nothing, simply because he had no clue on what to say.

His brother truly was a pitiful boy. The times where they found themselves in a great emergency, was the time he felt was the most peaceful. It spoke a lot about his experiences.

This continued on before Ace began to hear light snores coming from his chest.

To which he laid the sleeping boy down before going to sleep himself.

'Fuck it's morning already?'

He had awoken to the bright light of the sun beaming so greatly on his face as he rolled over his still exhausted body, seeing the peaceful look on the face of his younger brother as well as the dried up tear marks made him want to pat the boy's head, before his hand froze in motion as an unfamiliar voice had echoed in the room.

"Ace Wright? Your wanted for the murder of Jason Wright. Please stand-"

The voice had been interrupted as the startled Ace whipped around in shock only to see a tall policeman right next to him speaking as he pointed a bright flashlight in his face, and 3 more dressed similarly not too far behind him.

Ace had quickly backed off as he looked left and right in slight confusion as he'd just woken up.

He noticed through the broken windows that sun had yet to even rise, he had mistaken the officer's bright flashlight which had overtaken his entire field of vision as the beaming light of the sun.

One of the 3 officers standing back had quickly drawn his taser upon Ace's sudden jolt, to which the leading man quickly raised his hand and scowled at him before turning back to Ace, his expression now turning kind and his voice now gentle mixed with pity.

"Don't worry son, we won't hurt you or your brother. It's just some things happened that we need answers for so we'd like for you 2 to come with us for a little while. I'm sure you have things you want to say, you didn't mean it right? Don't worry, you can just come with us and everything will be fine."

Ace looked between the officers and the exit which they blocked, he knew they were probably fucked right now.

He had no clue if he could dodge a taser as he doubted they'd opt for real guns. Not to mention there was the issue of Erin, who despite all the ruckus was still knocked out asleep, showing just exhausted he was.

Ace knew that trouble had come.
