Capítulo 48: Refusal

The next day, at noon, Chris received a call from Natasha.

Natasha informed Chris that she had been apprehended for attempting to steal vibranium.

Rather than causing a scene, SHIELD was willing to hand over a small amount of vibranium to Chris, but with conditions attached.

Chris would need to provide SHIELD with Transformers technology, as well as the technology for refining vibranium, in exchange for the small amount of vibranium.

Chris suspected SHIELD had lost its mind.

Transformers technology was immensely valuable, containing numerous advancements. Even proposing to trade it for a mere fraction of vibranium seemed absurd. Chris believed that even Iron Man, if asked to surrender half of Stark Industries, would not hesitate to trade with him for this tech.

Leading-edge technology was true wealth.

Scientists in the Marvel universe had spent centuries studying vibranium refinement technology, with only Dr. Myron MacLaine achieving a single success during World War II—a feat never replicated.

Such precious technology far surpassed first-generation Transformers tech.

Trading two groundbreaking technologies for a small amount of vibranium was unthinkable, and Chris refused without hesitation.

If an agreement couldn't be reached with SHIELD, Chris planned to enlist Spider-Man for a covert operation or collaborate with Iron Man to apply pressure.

Iron Man's influence rivaled that of SHIELD's, given his involvement in arms manufacturing and strong ties with numerous high-ranking officials and world leaders.

Leveraging these connections, Iron Man could exert significant pressure on SHIELD, making it difficult for them to refuse.

After all, SHIELD relied on state support to function.

Without it, SHIELD would be in disarray and risk being labeled an illegal organization, leading to its exclusion by various nations.

Hence, it's easier for Iron Man to obtain vibranium than Chris.

However, Chris remained steadfast in his refusal to cooperate with Iron Man.

After ending the call with Natasha, Chris received another call from her an hour later.

Natasha was livid as she informed Chris that S.H.I.E.L.D. had rejected their deal. Upon hearing this Chris ordered Optimus to return immediately.

Upon the Transformers' return, Chris, accompanied by them, headed to New York once more. Through Optimus, Chris located Spider-Man, who was currently employed at a newspaper office.

Arriving at the newspaper office, Chris witnessed a startling scene: Spider-Man was physically confronting his boss.

The sounds of the scuffle filled the room as Spider-Man overwhelmed his boss until he was incapacitated.

Impressed by Spider-Man's display of strength, Chris applauded him. "Peter, you did a great job! You're quite the hero!"

"Chris, what are you doing here?" Spider-Man asked curtly, his expression sour.

"I'll discuss my business with you later. For now, tell me, do you enjoy working in journalism?" Chris inquired.

Spider-Man nodded, still visibly upset. "What if I do? I've already been fired."

Ignoring Spider-Man's response, Chris turned to the onlookers. "Who can help me get in touch with your newspaper boss? I'll reward you with $10,000."

Several eager employees stepped forward, offering their assistance.

One particularly clever individual handed Chris the phone with the boss on dial.

With confidence, Chris made an audacious offer. "Name your price. I want to buy your newspaper."

The newspaper owner, initially mistaking Chris for someone else, expressed skepticism at first. However, upon realizing Chris's wealth and genuine interest, he countered with a hefty sum of $230 million.

Unfazed, Chris boldly raised the stakes. "I'll buy your newspaper for $500 million," he declared proudly, illustrating the wealth he had accrued through Optimus's ventures.

"Okay, as long as you really give me 500 million US dollars, I will sell the newspaper to you," the newspaper owner exclaimed excitedly.

Chris ended the call and turned to Optimus Mary. "Optimus, transfer $10,000 to the owner of this phone, and then transfer $500 million to the owner of this newspaper," he instructed.

After completing the transactions, he returned the phone to the little girl.

The editor, upon receiving a text message from the bank confirming the deposit, smiled with genuine happiness. There was indeed an extra $10,000 in the bank account.

"I have bought this newspaper and given it to Peter. From now on, Peter will be your boss. Those who obey will stay, and those who disobey will leave," Chris announced loudly to everyone in the newspaper office.

"Ah!"

"Is this for real?"

"He hasn't even signed a contract with the boss yet, why is he making such grand statements?"

The staff at the newspaper questioned the legitimacy of Chris's claim to ownership.

"Did you really buy the newspaper and give it to me?" Spider-Man asked incredulously.

Chris nodded affirmatively. "Indeed, I want you to do something for me, and this is a token of appreciation."

As the editor who had handed Chris his phone received a call, he answered and then approached Spider-Man, saluting respectfully. "Hello boss, if you have any tasks in the future, just let me know," he said.

Realizing that the newspaper was indeed purchased by Chris, the other employees gathered around Spider-Man, showering him with flattery and attempting to win his favor.

"Peter, congratulations on becoming the boss."

"Peter, I always knew you had a bright future. Just look at you now!"

"Peter, we're like brothers. Take care of us, won't you?"

"Peter, I made you a cup of coffee. Give it a try."

In the past, Spider-Man had been the butt of jokes in the newspaper office, so the sudden change in his status made him uncomfortable.

"Chris, let's find a place to talk," Spider-Man suggested, suspecting that Chris had something important to discuss.

They headed to a nearby coffee shop.

"What do you need me to do?" Spider-Man inquired once they were seated.

"I need your help to steal a special metal called vibranium from S.H.I.E.L.D.," Chris revealed. "You don't need to acquire much, just a small amount will suffice. If you successfully obtain it for me, all debts owed to me will be cleared."
