Chapter Forty-Three: Seeds of Affair

I woke up to the sound of my bedroom door clicking in place. I thought Fate had peaked in to check on me. It wouldn’t have been the first time that day.

I rolled over to see a small woman standing just inside my bedroom. I had never seen her before. She wasn’t part of Fates’ house staff unless he had just hired her, but the way she studied me as if I was a painting instead of a person unsettled me.

“He had a meeting or he would have brought me up himself. I was told to come find you,” she said as if that had been all the explanation I needed.

Something in the way she said ‘he’ made me think she wasn’t referring to Fate.

I pulled the covers further up my chest like armor as I studied her back.

She was mousey almost with dirty blond hair that hung in ringlets around her face. Her clothes didn’t seem to fit as they hung around her/ The dress was two sizes too big.
