Capítulo 15: "Millennial Dragon"
*There is less time left to complete the mission* thought Yamamoto with excitement, since he will win a reward that will allow him to become stronger and that is what he needs the most at this moment.
"Well, Apis-chan could you take us to your grandfather?" asked Olvia who in this period that she was together with Apis learned that she lived on this island with her grandfather and they were the only inhabitants of the island.
"Yes follow me! Come on Robin!" Apis said with a smile as she led the way, at Apis' enthusiasm, Robin followed her with some shyness, as she was not used to the blonde girl's cheerful character.
Apis found out that Olvia and Robin wanted to stay and live on her island so they had to ask permission from her grandfather, this made her very happy, since she did not have to be separated from her new friend and Olvia. The other archaeologists watched as Apis and Robin went ahead with a smile.
Yamamoto asked Saul to stay guarding the ship, in case the marines chasing Apis arrived, although it was difficult for them to do so quickly because of the fog, it was better to be cautious, as they could not let their location leak to the Marine Headquarters.
First, they had to ask permission from Apis' grandfather they could stay on this island, so they would not transport the books yet, once they got the go-ahead they would start with the move. As Apis guided them along a road that was somewhat worn and in poor condition, Yamamoto could notice some destroyed statues, with a strange dragon shape.
On Olvia's side, she had not seen this area of the island, since she and her crew at that time, had left in another part of the island, where there was no port, nor any civilization nearby, so she thought it was a deserted island, although she was not so wrong, since only two people lived there.
Finally, after walking for about 20 minutes, they arrived at the entrance of a village that like everything else was in poor condition, upon entering through the door that welcomed them, they could see several very traditional houses and some different buildings.
The village did not seem very big, at most it had 10 houses and other buildings, which would allow it to have a population of 40 people, if 4 people lived per house. Apis stopped at one house, which was the one in the best condition.
As she was about to open the door, it opened abruptly, "Apis you finally show up!" exclaimed an old man in a worried tone as he rushed towards Apis.
This old man was Bokuden, Apis' grandfather. He had long gray hair, with one part sticking out on the sides of his head and another part hidden inside a white cap with dark stripes, similar to Apis' cap, but of a different color. He was wearing a brown suit, with yellow and black parts, placed over a blue shirt and gray pants that reveal his ankles. His shoes are beige.
"Grandpa I'm fine! Let go of me" Apis said struggling to get out of the hands of his grandfather who was inspecting if she had any wounds or anything since she disappeared for a long time.
"Phew... looks like you don't have any serious wounds" Bokuden said as he sighed with relief, after that, he looked up and noticed the large crowd of people in front of his house.
"Wow it's been a long time since I've seen so many people on this island, come on don't just stand there, come on in" added Bokuden as he entered his house, the archaeologists were surprised at the trust this old man had to complete strangers.
Yamamoto did not hesitate and was the first to enter, he noticed that this house was quite spacious, its dining room allowed 10 or more people to eat without any problem and all the furniture seemed to be handmade.
The others followed Yamamoto and sat on the dining room chairs, where Bokuden was already sitting at the end waiting for them, "I guess you guys saved Apis, I thank you for that" said the old man with a smile.
"It's just a minor matter, anyone would have done the same" said Yamamoto naturally, Clover and the others stared at him with strange expressions, *If you didn't do anything...* they thought in unison.
"Yes grandpa these people saved me! They also helped Milo who was injured" said Apis sitting on a chair kneeling down since she couldn't reach them because of her short stature.
"Besides they want to stay and live here ¿Can they?" she added making puppy dog eyes as she didn't want to be separated after making her first friend.
*Well I save myself from having to explain everything* thought Yamamoto satisfied that he did not have to give explanations and asking if they could stay here, although if he refused he would not pay attention to this old man, since it would be dangerous to have to look for another island, they were only doing it out of politeness.
Bokuden was surprised by the sudden request of his granddaughter, "May I know why they want to live here? I know you are not bad people, otherwise Apis would not ask me such a thing, but I would like to know" he asked with curiosity, it was not something normal that a group of several people come to your island and ask if they can live here.
Most of them looked towards Yamamoto since he saved them from the buster call, they took him as a kind of leader, "Well that's a long story..." said Yamamoto with some laziness.
"I have a long time and I always liked stories hohoho" said Bokuden while laughing, at this comment Apis made an ugly face remembering that his grandfather loves to tell long and boring stories.
With no other choice, Yamamoto started to tell all the events in a very summarized way to Bokuden, without hiding anything from him, as he doubted that this old man has the slightest idea of what is going on in the outside world. Besides the fact that the navy also wanted to kidnap his granddaughter.
While Yamamoto was telling the story and Bokuden was interrupting him every so often, asking about something, Apis crept up to Robin, "Hey shhh follow me" she whispered while waving his hand.
Robin hesitated a bit, but decided to follow Apis, "What's up?" she asked already outside the house.
"I hate stories, my grandfather tells one every time we eat" said Apis making an exaggerated pained face. At Apis' funny face, Robin was about to burst out laughing but managed to restrain herself.
"Come on follow me, I'll show you something amazing" said Apis as she started to run off in one direction. Seeing Apis's back turning away, Robin started running with a smile on his face.
After walking for about 10 minutes, they arrived at the entrance of a cave, "This is it" said Apis with a not so happy expression as before, as she entered the cave.
Robin followed her and when she entered the cave, she jumped back not expecting what was inside, "W-what is that?" she asked with surprise in her tone.
Inside the cave, deep inside was a gigantic dragon with a lot of fur and a kind of beard, the same color as its belly. Although on this trip she had seen many incredible things, she had not expected to see a dragon a mythological and very ancient creature.
"This is Ryu my only friend...well now you are my friend too" Apis said with a slight smile as she approached Ryu and petted him on the head.
Robin was surprised by Apis' response, but deep down she was very happy to get her first friend and that the feeling was mutual, "I thought dragons went extinct a long time ago" Robin said with curiosity in her eyes.
Robin was a very smart girl, and during the years she wasn't with her mother, all she did was a study in Ohara's library, so besides knowing how to read poneglyphs, she had other knowledge.
"Yes me too, until I heard Ryu's call and came to this cave, thanks to my power I can befriend him" said Apis while petting Ryu, and Ryu closed his eyes with joy to see Apis.
"He doesn't seem to be very well ¿what's wrong with him?" asked Robin noticing Ryu's visible weak state.
"Ryu doesn't have much time left snif...that's why I have to help him snif...to go back to his home" replied Apis in a sad tone while crying.
Robin was surprised by such a response and became sad, it was obvious from his appearance that Ryu was a very old dragon and it seemed that he didn't have much time left to live, "I will help you, together we will get Ryu home" said Robin with a strange smile as she was not used to this while touching Apis' shoulder.
