Chapter 30: Wayne Family's Party! (Words 2300+)
Suspicion and conspiracy ignited the war, and Gotham's Dark Knight faced another turmoil.
The clash of metal echoed, and two figures constantly changed positions, seeking each other's weaknesses in attack and defense.
The assassins of the League of Assassins stood ten meters away from the two, observing the "final battle" between their leader and the Batman. Both possessed peak human physique and extraordinary combat skills, making it uncertain who would emerge victorious.
A sharp strike left a deep mark on Batman's chest armor. He leaped backward to create distance and Ra's al Ghul twirled his Emei daggers, taunting Batman with his open palm.
"What's the matter, Batman? Is your focus slipping? Are you tired?"
Two bat-shaped batarangs flew out, that was Batman's response.
The battle was not over, but the disparity between them had become evident. It had nothing to do with abilities, but Batman, being a middle-aged man, couldn't match the stamina of the centuries-old monster, Ra's al Ghul.
This was the reason Batman had a track record of more losses than wins against Ra's al Ghul. Ra's al Ghul had immersed himself in the Lazarus Pit several times, and the mysterious waters had kept his body at its peak state.
Moreover, this time Ra's al Ghul was different from before.
He scolded Batman with disdain, "Batman, you've grown weaker. Is it because of Damian? My daughter? Or your cat? Excessive emotions have made you weak. You're no longer the Dark Knight I valued."
The two clashed again, and this time Ra's al Ghul had the leisure to speak. Batman felt uneasy, knowing that he hadn't used his full power yet.
Batman used his forearm blade to block the two Emei daggers, and his right whip leg followed by a left front kick were all deflected by Ra's al Ghul.
"Is this your limit? I've seen enough. Batman, let me put an end to this."
After saying that, Ra's al Ghul's skin turned red, and he exhaled white hot steam, pressing Batman down with overwhelming force.
"Do you see this? It's the new power I've gained, Batman, Bruce. I'll give you one more chance to submit to me, and I'll grant you immortality and power!"
Batman remained silent throughout, and he caught a whiff of sulfur from Ra's al Ghul.
Seeing no response, Ra's al Ghul shook his head. "You won't even give me a perfunctory answer, Batman. You've chosen the path of destruction."
Struggling, Batman suddenly activated a communication projection on his right arm. Three small heads popped out of the screen.
"Batman, we're here, get ready to move!"
Ra's al Ghul also heard the conversation but didn't understand its meaning. Only Batman noticed the background of the video, the cockpit of the Batwing, with Nightwing sitting in the center, and the one gripping the controls was not Nightwing but Damian...
"Deactivate arm armor!"
The arm armor fell away, and Batman rolled away from Ra's al Ghul, reaching for his waist.
Ra's al Ghul knew what Batman intended to do, and with a wave of his hand, the assassins formed a formation to surround Batman.
"Using a smoke bomb to escape the Assassin League's encirclement, looks like you're not that confident," Ra's al Ghul said calmly.
"I indeed lack that confidence."
Batman took out the remaining Tear Gas Pellet, and the corners of his mouth slightly lifted. "But I'm not using a smoke bomb."
The Tear Gas Pellet exploded, releasing glittering fragments in the air. Everyone present was momentarily stunned, and Ra's al Ghul had a bad feeling about it. He tried to disperse the annoying pieces of paper, but instead, they stuck to his face, moistened by the steam he exhaled.
Batman disappeared into the gold and silver glitter. The next moment, a deafening roar echoed from above.
"Accelerate, clear the way with a missile!"
Urged by Quinn, Damian pressed the missile launch button. The missile blasted open a hole in the floor large enough for the Batwing to pass through, flying all the way up to the floor where Batman was.
Looking up in surprise, Ra's al Ghul suddenly saw the Batwing descending headfirst towards him. He quickly sidestepped, and as the aircraft was about to hit the ground, Ra's al Ghul caught a glimpse of his grandson through the glass.
"Pull up!" Nightwing forcefully pulled the controls.
The Batwing slightly adjusted its angle, skidding across the floor with both wings, pushing the assassins aside until it collided with the wall, coming to a stop.
The hatch opened, and Nightwing was the first to jump out.
"Cough, Robin, I'll never ride in your plane again."
"Yeah, you really don't understand the importance of safe driving," Quinn nodded in agreement without any sense of responsibility as the idea contributor.
Ignoring their banter, Damian drew out his twin blades. "Batman, I'm here to help! Where are the enemies?"
After being plowed over by the aircraft, there was no one standing except Ra's al Ghul.
The glimmering fragments that hadn't fallen yet were sent flying again by the aircraft. With gold and silver shimmering all around, Damian faintly recognized an old man with a stern face, feeling familiar.
"Grandfather?!"
Batman silently approached behind the three young people, facing Ra's al Ghul on the opposite side, surrounded by the flying glitter. The scene resembled a masquerade just after fireworks had been set off.
"Wow, what a fantastic reunion! Robin, so Batman's fighting your grandfather, uh, is this a family dispute? I can mediate if you want." Quinn teased as he took out his Pokémon detector, and finally, another blip appeared on the radar, besides himself and Manaphy.
"Good, it's right below."
Batman glanced at Manaphy perched on Quinn's shoulder. This time, Manaphy wasn't in its invisible state.
"Dam—"
Ra's al Ghul had barely opened his mouth when Damian threw three throwing knives at him, fearing that his grandfather would reveal some secret.
"Grandfather, whatever you've done in Gotham, stop it immediately."
Swoosh, swoosh, three throwing knives embedded into Ra's al Ghul's chest, blood oozing from his clothes.
Damian was taken aback, as he hadn't even aimed, but Ra's al Ghul didn't even dodge. His eyes lost focus for a moment before quickly recovering.
"Another immature Entity, and so weak..."
Batman calmly pressed down the barrel Quinn lifted, looking at him with a helpless expression. Was it wrong to shoot while the villain was rambling?
"He's no longer human; bullets are useless against him," Batman explained expressionlessly.
Ra's al Ghul casually plucked the throwing knives from his chest, and the wounds healed in an instant.
He fervently said, "Batman is right. I'm no longer tormented by this weak body. My soul can break free from the shackles of flesh at any time, all thanks to the Master's gift."
Nightwing sneered, "I think you left out a 'human' in that sentence."
Ra's al Ghul didn't mind Nightwing's sarcastic remark. He reached out to his grandson, saying, "Robin, you no longer have to bear the burden of Gotham. You can return to your grandfather's side, and together, we will bask in the glory of the Master, sharing ultimate power and eternal life."
"Grandfather..."
Damian felt lost. He had grown up under his grandfather's guidance, and Ra's al Ghul played not only the role of a family member in his life but also a mentor. Accepting missions, executing them—he was used to obeying his grandfather's orders.
But as he turned to look at his partner and older brother, as well as his father, he sought advice from Batman.
Batman opened his mouth, wanting to say, "The decision is entirely up to you, Damian," but before he could, his left and right hands pushed him toward Damian. Batman turned his head to look at Nightwing and Ra's al Ghul standing properly and finally surrendered to his instincts, hugging his biological son.
"Suddenly feeling Batman's panicked and clumsy embrace, Damian laughed.
"Don't worry, Batman."
Damian had the courage to face Ra's al Ghul calmly: "I refuse, grandfather, I don't care about eternal life because I'm still young, I still want to grow (grow taller), the highest power... does this power still deserve to be called the highest when you have to obeys a master?"
Hearing his grandson's response, Ra's al Ghul said calmly, "Foolish choice."
Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
Without Batman stopping them, Quinn saw that the atmosphere of fatherly kindness and filial piety was almost over, and immediately fired four shots.
With two seconds, Ra's al Ghul confirmed once again that he had a non-human physique. He spewed boiling steam, and his skin became redder.
"I will take your heads and offer them to my lord together!"
Batman pushed Damian towards Quinn and the others, "Go underground and end this."
Damian looked at his obviously stronger grandfather, "Can you deal with grandfather alone?"
Quinn and Nightwing pressed both hands on Damian's shoulders,, as Nightwing said , "Trust him."
Clap! Clap! Clap! Clap!
Quinn cleanly emptied the magazine, "He is Batman."
Damian was convinced, and he followed Quinn to the bottom, leaving Batman alone to face the raging Ra's al Ghul.
"Letting Damian go is the right thing to do, Batman. I really don't want the child to witness his father being torn to pieces. That would be too cruel."
Batman remained indifferent, chanting the command, "Aircraft, activate lethal force."
[Automatic fire control system activated]
The "crashed" Bat aircraft spread its wings on both sides, extending several barrels and automatic machine guns, instantly erupting with astonishing firepower.
Bullets poured down on Ra's al Ghul like a waterfall, occasionally a few missiles splashed his face, burning his clothes into ashes, revealing his red flesh.
"Is this your reliance, a few small machine guns and soft barrels? You yourself understand that firearms can't hurt me."
Ra's al Ghul appeared relaxed, waiting for the ammunition to be exhausted, then he could easily kill Batman.
["Power Punch" loaded]
After a cold and emotionless AI voice, the automatic machine gun stopped firing and retracted the mechanical arm used for installation.
And when Ra's al Ghul put down his arms covering his eyes, a huge mechanical fist appeared in front of him.
Boom!
Ra's al Ghul broke through the glass and fell to the next floor. Batman stood at the gap, no longer wearing the thin fiber battle suit, but a complete set of heavy impact armor.
Batman said in a deep voice, "Ra's, just now you saw the power of humans, now it's time for you to understand human wisdom."
He leaped forward, and when the armor landed, it raised a lot of broken glass.
"Let me say this again correctly" Batman's voice came through the metal helmet. "I let Damian go, because I don't want him to see his grandfather crippled."
He reached out to grab Ra's al Ghul's head, but suddenly Ra's al Ghul spewed out a ball of flames, blocking Batman's vision, trying to escape.
But Batman didn't retract his outstretched arm. He grabbed Ra's al Ghul's right leg.
Unable to successfully escape, Ra's al Ghul tried to counterattack, punching the armor's head, trying to catch Batman off guard, but the impact armor appeared heavy but moved very fast. Batman firmly grabbed his fist.
"Tell me your plan, or I'll break your other hand."
"The other hand?"
Before Ra's al Ghul could react, Batman had already twisted his left hand.
"Tell me, now!"
...
Quinn and the others were blocked in front of the elevator, and the remnants of several assassins from the League of Assassins lay nearby.
"Oracle, how long will it take you to unlock the elevator access?"
Damian was a bit impatient. He believed in his father, but no one knew better than him how ruthless Ra's al Ghul was, especially now that he had obtained unknown powers.
Quinn was different. He was not worried at all. That was Batman. If even he couldn't handle it, the three of them going up would just be sending themselves to death.
"Working on it, don't rush me... damn it, they locked the elevator access."
Nightwing couldn't believe it, "Who can stop you from hacking in?"
"Physical lock! They smashed the elevator control module, and the elevator is out of service. You'll have to find another way down."
Quinn had a bad premonition, "What other way?"
"Of course, the stairs."
Barbara was sure she didn't sound gloating, she just wanted to break Dick Grayson's two legs, and it would be better if the third leg was also broken too, so she wouldn't have to worry about anything anymore.
"They destroyed the stairs, which means there is no one left to stop us, only to delay time. But their delay also means that some conspiracy is brewing. It's impossible to make it down the stairs in time."
Quinn used Lake Toya to pry open the elevator door and climbed into the elevator shaft.
"Robin, Nightwing, come up."
Quinn raised his arm, selecting the only unlocked Wildvine of the Omnitrix. The Omnitrix popped out a cylindrical device. He took a deep breath and pressed it down.
Just like pushing down an injection needle, Quinn felt something rushing into his body, transforming him into another species.
Robin and Nightwing only saw a flash of green light, and Quinn disappeared, replaced by a one-eyed vine monster.
Damian couldn't help raising his eyebrows, "Is the function of that watch to transform? Or is this your true face?"
"Stop talking," Wildvine used vines to tightly entangle the two of them, "You better pray to God."
"What?" Nightwing saw Quinn's intentions, but didn't understand what the words meant.
"The Omnitrix's transformation time is only 20 seconds. If you don't reach the bottom within 20 seconds, only God can save you."
After speaking, Wildvine kicked Robin and Nightwing down one by one."
