"Indeed," Bert replied, leaping forward again. "Perhaps, with your death, brother of Jok, I shall learn what I am lacking."

His axe once more thundered into Vol's shield.

This time, Vol connected better than all the other times he had before. He could hit Bert hard enough to send him skipping back in the earth, but not hard enough to do him any real damage.

Vol dashed after him, with Rast hot on his heels. He chose to ignore the other brother for now. He needed to focus on one target at a time. If he could get rid of just one of them, then the battle would shift in his favour.

"What motivates you, younger brother?" Bert asked him. He seemed unperturbed by the resilience with which Vol followed after him.
