As Alla walked to her ward pushing the IV stand, Maggie returned with the porridge. Seeing Alla up and about, she quickly came over. "You just recovered from a high fever and you're wandering around. Are you trying to kill yourself?" Maggie scolded, making Alla sit on the hospital bed, reminding her, "You have a heart condition, you need to be more careful."
Alla smiled faintly, "I just went to get the report."
Maggie continued to scold her while opening the lid of the porridge box, "I could have gotten it for you, why are you walking around?" After speaking, she again expressed concern, "Where's the report? Give it to me."
Alla blinked, not wanting to lie to Maggie, yet still found herself saying against her will, "I took it to the doctor to look at the report, and left it in the consultation room."
Maggie didn't think much of it, only concerned about Alla's health, "So, what did the report say?"
Alla replied in a relaxed tone, "Just a blood test, nothing's wrong."
Maggie stopped stirring the porridge with her chopsticks and looked at Alla very seriously, "You're not like normal people, you have a heart condition, a blood test is the most important check-up."
Alla laughed, "I know. The doctor said it's fine, the heart is all normal, so don't worry." Maggie finally relaxed and handed the cooled porridge to Alla, "I bought your favorite porridge, eat some."
Alla took it and spooned small mouthfuls into her mouth. As she ate, Maggie looked at Alla's pale face, wanting to say something. If she didn't mishear, Alla was shouting Ricky's name in her sleep. That boy had always been a taboo for Alla. After so many years, it was the first time she heard Alla shout Ricky's name in her sleep.
Maggie wanted to ask Alla if she still couldn't forget Ricky deep down in her heart, but she didn't want to open Alla's old wounds. After a long thought, Maggie chose to remain silent. Ricky was a person dead in the past, mentioning him would only add to their troubles.
After Alla ate half a bowl, she was full. She put down the spoon and asked Maggie, "Shouldn't you be at work?"
Maggie pointed at her watch, "At this hour? It's too late to go to work."
"Then you..."
"I took two days off to stay with you." Maggie lay on the empty bed next to her, "I might as well take a good rest during this time."
Alla smiled softly, "Thank you, Maggie."
Maggie waved her hand dismissively, yawned, and said, "Alla, I'm going to take a nap. Call me if you need anything."
Alla nodded, "There are doctors on rounds, you can sleep without worry."
Maggie then closed her eyes, and soon fell asleep due to exhaustion. Maggie worked at a nightclub and mostly worked night shifts. It was busy and tiring. She didn't pass the college entrance examination and didn't have a stepping stone to a better life. She couldn't sit comfortably in an office like a white-collar worker.
Moreover, after graduating from high school, she didn't find a good job. She wanted to settle down in A CITY, so she went to the nightclub. At first, she was a salesgirl. Later, because of her good performance, she was promoted to manager. After working for several years, she bought a house and a car. Although life was hard, she achieved something.
Luckily, Maggie found a reliable boyfriend. They were getting married next month. After she gets married, she can get rid of her orphan status and start her own family. Although Maggie had had a hard time these past few years, her future was always hopeful.
For Alla, she didn't hope for anything else. As long as she could live until Maggie's wedding, to send Maggie off into marriage, she would have no regrets.
