A few days, later, at the end of the matches that were scheduled, he achieved 80 wins in the arena.
Bringing with it the sweet sound of the system notification.
As he sat in his new room, sweat raced down his face, he looked at what it had to say.
[Ding! You have reached an astonishing 80 wins in the Vottrat Arena, earning the skill: [Weaponized Body] ]
Examining the effect, it's details were pulled up.
[Weaponized Body: Choose 3 weapons from the ones you own, the three you choose will be destroyed. In exchange, the passive effect of the weapons will apply to your body, but so will the penalties if present. Slots: [1. Empty], [2. Empty], [3. Empty] ]
Adam was slightly shocked.
However, he did not know whether his choices were permanent.
It sounded like it would be wise to hold off, until he got weapon treasures from the system, or came across weapons with special effects to use this on.
With the Violetstone's debt clearing he could start saving, through the arena.
Since rejecting Yerlarain, she had not met up with him nor had Micheis.
Adam did not mind much.
No longer having to help with clearing the Violetstones debt, he could look into financial ventures.
He had a bit more free time without the occasional meetings to discuss their debt.
To this point, he had helped get the Violetstones tons of coin through their betting on him in matches, and him giving most of his match rewards.
Which unfortunately did not leave him with much coin.
It was through his continued matchups that there was some leeway.
His streak being at 80 amplified the positive treatment that Adam was receiving.
Being treated better, he asked about getting support in making money.
Having no background in doing so, he had to get help in areas that he possessed no knowledge of.
With money, there were several options of what he could do.
His armor now had a few dents and scratches.
One of the things he wanted to do, now with more financial freedom was replace his gear.
The gear being used everyday meant that it was a high priority for him.
Adam had an urge to go to another arena to do matches in both, to make his level growth more efficient.
Unfortunately the commute time would be absurd, and would mentally wear down on him.
He had to be in peak condition, as any match could find itself as a threat for Adam's life.
Mainly though, he had to stay in solid condition because of the tests.
The assassins could be part of the tests.
But, he wasn't certain.
As there were not any notions that Miltivan would employ such means.
He had to admit, that the assassin intruding kept his senses keen.
Sighing, Adam visited Miltivan's office.
He asked about the assassin, in which, Miltivan shrugged, smirking.
Which left Adam now half-sure that the intruder was employed by them.
It did not leave a bad taste in his mouth, as in hindsight, Miltivan did mention that he should stay diligent.
Adam ramped up his training in the following days, doing pushups in his room after his daily matches.
Even while Zarthak had the streak, that he neared it did not mean that he was close.
Unlike Adam doing matches in bursts everyday, Zarthak could have done matches over a decade or more.
With leveling only possible through quests and killing, fighting in the arena normally was a purely financial move.
Assuming that was true, and there were no other ways to.
Adam after some hesitation, planned to look into hiring someone for the job of looking into Zarthak's background.
He knew only a little, that either he underestimated Zarthak or overestimated them, which was not ideal.
Instead he would get the person to get him information, to ascertain whether Adam was close or far away from dealing with Zarthak.
The following day, using the gold rewarded from the matches, Adam was able to find a investigation agency, its entrance in one of the alleys.
A tilted scroll sign hung above.
The building was rundown, and small.
As he entered, the floorboards creaked.
There were cobwebs in the corners.
Adam mused: 'This is not giving me confidence.'
Walking to the front desk, a masked and hooded figure appeared.
Adam asked for information regarding Zarthak Steelwonder and handed over a handful of gold.
The person said they had slightly older information on file about them, making investigation unneeded.
Handed over a file, Adam read through it.
---
Collected Information:
- Zarthak Steelwonder, a half elf orc, hero candidate.
- No known family.
- Believed to be around level 45 and 53 years old.
- Wields a Crimson edged black greatsword.
- Champion of Vottrat Arena for 10 years.

Adam sweated.
He did in fact underestimate Zarthak.
He even underestimated this world.
King Lucius said that there was no way to see a person's status.
Possessing a system made Adam an exception with the info skill, allowing to see other people details.
Although less clear than his ability, levels could be estimated which said a lot.
Most important, was that Zarthak was a hero candidate.
Which implied not only the summoned could be heroes.
Zarthak was worth overcoming.
Next, he asked about the best ways to level up, to see if there were methods he did not know about.
He was told something interesting.
Something Merandin did not share.
There were dungeons.
Apparently, they could be entered as one wished.
While some were under the control of nobles and royalty, there were others that were hardly valuable and could be entered as one wished.
Adam asked for the locations of the known dungeons and which ones were recommended.
His motivation ignited, he thanked the person at the desk who informed him of a few, and left.
To beat Zarthak, who was strong, while being a hero candidate, Adam had to become overwhelming.
Currently Adam was decent, but let alone possess a hero candidates strength, he was tiny before the might of heroes who had time to grow, that he imagined in his head.
He needed to focus.
Adam needed to grow.
Dungeons on the horizon of his thoughts, he made his way to the arena.
Once he broke Zarthak's record, he would be off to the dungeons.
