Capítulo 6: Chapter 5: Reflection

The alarm clock next to him rang like a thunderclap, jolting Alex awake from the realm of dreams.

- What the fuck...

Knocking the alarm clock button and finally stopping the ear-splitting sound, Alex reluctantly threw off the blanket and threw his legs off the bed. While his consciousness was trying to regain consciousness and make some sense of what he saw in the dream, his body was already living its own life. Automatically reaching the bathroom, Alex turned the hot water almost to maximum and climbed under the shower, putting his sleepy face under the water jet.

"So...what the fuck was that?!" - his mental groan brought no answer and sighing, Alex began to reason further. - "Okay, let's think about it...if this were my past world, everything could be written off as an overly vivid dream, I'd definitely believe it. But considering where I am...I've been watching God, right?"

Habitually turning on his axis, he arched his back under the water, still trying to get his thoughts together.

"Yahweh, Being and the others, let's say that I could memorize from that pile of church books, but the existence of other gods. Odin, Shiva, Zeus...although what am I wondering here. If the Biblical god and everything attached to him quite well exists, why not the Hindu god of destruction Shiva? Or even the one-eyed Scandinavian Odin, along with his feathered ones...yeah, isn't it crowded up there in the sky?"

Grinning at his own thoughts and especially at how easy it was for him to believe in such a thing, Alex lounged under the hot jets of water for a while before finally leaving the bathroom. There was not much time left before morning prayers and breakfast, so he went back to his room and took out one of his many notebooks from the nightstand and began to quickly write down everything he could remember from his dreams.

- There are still a few more questions, perhaps the most important ones in this case," he finished taking notes and returned the notebook and pen to the nightstand, then stared thoughtfully out the nearest window, muttering quietly to himself: - Why am I dreaming about something like this? Why now? And is it something to do with the fact that Asia has awakened her sacred mechanism? ... So many questions, and as always so few answers....

Having taken a full breath, Alex decided to leave these undoubtedly important, but unanswered questions for the time being and return to the pressing matters. Today, as well as almost any day of the week, except Sunday, he had to go through the usual training, and it was impossible to skip breakfast. Getting out of bed, he hurried toward the dining room.

In the weeks since his sister had left for the Vatican, not much had changed. Usually he would call or text her in the evening, when he was finally getting some strength back after another workout before he collapsed. The girl was housed in one of the seven churches in the city-state. Along with her, another "holy maiden" lived there, as they called women who possessed holy healing type mechanisms. For some reason, men with such abilities were extremely rare. This woman was to be Asiye's mentor and teacher until she had fully mastered her mechanism to at least a satisfactory level.

Alex didn't worry about his sister's safety. Still, compared to his previous world, the church here almost completely corresponded to its original image. Of course, "bad" people met here too, human nature always remained the same. However, for example, being a pedophile priest in a world where there is a real, quite tangible angel above you, and even God himself, is extremely difficult and completely unsafe.

When he entered the dining room, he greeted the people who were already there and sat down in his seat and waited patiently. In a few minutes everyone was already there, and the presbyter or priest, who was the highest clergyman in the temple, rose from his seat. The others rose after him.

- O God, cleanse me who am a sinner.

His confident voice, honed by years of experience, echoed throughout the dining room. At every pause, he had to bow, which everyone did.

- Lord, Lord, have mercy on me.

Alex made the second bow almost automatically, for years of living here he almost never turned on his brain at such moments. He still believed that all such rituals and prayers were rather a tribute to order. Deeds and actions spoke more for a man than the number of bows he bowed during endless prayers.

- I have sinned without number, O Lord, have mercy and forgive me, a sinner.

Finally, having made the third bow, he was able to straighten his back and stood still, waiting for the prayer.

- The eyes of all trust in Thee, O Lord, and Thou givest them food in good time, Thou openest Thy generous hand, and fillest every animal with good pleasure. Through the prayers of our holy fathers.....

Half-heartedly continuing to listen to the pleasant voice of the priest, Alex involuntarily cast a glance at the numerous icons of saints hanging from the ceiling and on the walls. The number, or rather to say the variety of faces, reminded him again of the most important difference between this world and the one where he lived his first life.

Alex didn't know if it was only the presence of supernatural forces or if the reason was something else, but the human history of this world was much longer than he was used to. Not counting the primitive society of the Paleolithic, Mesolithic and Neolithic eras, about whose duration was generally little known, the history of the human race only with the appearance of the first states took more than 18 thousand years. And exactly now, according to the Gregorian calendar, it was 6045 years of the new era.

When Alex was first immersed in studying the history of this world, he was literally struck by how little information was available to him. General history, which was taught in regular schools and other educational institutions, mostly told only about the times of the last few millennia, touching only the most significant names and events of the past times. Church books were rumored to give much more information about distant times, but they were available only to those who had been trained and reached high dignity. What was available to Alex mostly contained information about the cause not available from the usual sources.

A war between three factions that lasted for more than a hundred, maybe even a thousand years.

The pacification of two Heavenly Dragons that also raged in various mythological worlds as well as in the human world.

As well as a huge number of other more localized events and battles involving ordinary people, those who were called heroes, many other supernatural species, and of course dragons, who could be both quite reasonable representatives of their race, and madmen that simply destroyed everything in their path.

In the end, having finished his historical research for the nearest time, Alex came to a simple conclusion. In the old days the human world was not so carefully fenced from the interference of the supernatural and that's why the church, various organizations of mages, as well as all three factions subsequently got so much work. To keep a secret you must first make it a secret. And although everything was sort of accomplished in the end, the amount of effort involved must have been unbelievable.

Absorbed in his own thoughts, Alex almost missed the end of the prayer.

- ... now and forever and ever... Amen!

Having said the last word of the prayer at the same time as the others present, Alex tilted his head for the last time during the morning and finally got a chance to sit down at the table and started eating.

"And yet I wonder..." - While actively devouring the food from his plate, Alex involuntarily returned to the memory of his dreams. - "What was it all about? And the most important question, will it continue... do I need to buy tickets for the second part?"
