Capítulo 90: Mystery of Yuen's Power and Extraordinary Items
Nacht's escape left Yuen both shocked and frustrated. She had come dangerously close to defeating him, only to witness his seemingly miraculous survival. Her sniper rifle lay abandoned on the rooftop as she tried to catch her breath, her mind racing to figure out her next move.
Meanwhile, the remaining B-grade hero who had been running toward Yuen halted in his tracks, a mixture of relief and confusion on his face as he watched Nacht disappear into the distance.
Carl, monitoring the situation from his control center, knew that they needed to regroup and come up with a new plan. "Nacht, fall back for now. We can't afford to lose you. We'll find a way to deal with Yuen later."
Nacht's voice crackled through the communicator. "Yeah, you're right, Carl. I need to heal up and rethink our strategy."
As Nacht retreated from the battle, Yuen finally managed to stand up, her body aching from the strain of using her newfound ability. She cursed under her breath, knowing that she had let Nacht slip through her fingers.
The B-grade hero who had been with her approached cautiously. "Are you okay, Yuen?"
She nodded, her eyes fixed on the spot where Nacht had vanished. "I'm fine, Hank. We need to report this to the HA immediately. The Blood Prince's abilities have evolved, and we can't underestimate him."
Hank frowned. "But what about the A-grade hero, Beam Guy? He's unconscious, the previous attack actually exhausted him."
Yuen sighed. "We'll have to take him with us. We can't leave him here, and we can't let The Blood Prince get to him either."
Together, Yuen and Hank carefully loaded Beam Guy onto a makeshift stretcher and began their retreat, leaving the battle-scarred rooftop behind.
Back in their hidden base, Carl worked tirelessly to analyze the data from the battle. He couldn't shake the feeling that Nacht's abilities had indeed evolved during the confrontation. The question was, how had it happened, and what did it mean for their future encounters with him?
As he delved deeper into his research, a notification on his computer screen caught his attention. It was a message from Blorg, who had been assisting Cypher with the cyber-attack on the heroes' communication network.
"Yo, so I he survived?"
"Yeah, it seems that he managed to evolve somehow, his powers suddenly improved, otherwise, there would have been no way for him to survive the last attack from Beam Guy, the crazy bastard actually used up every ounce of power he had left, falling unconscious at the end."
"Damn, did he get him?"
"No, the situation was too dangerous, Nacht was heavily injured and had to run away, the enemy still had one B-grade that was relatively unharmed, that guy alone might have been powerful enough to kill him if he stayed and tried to take out Beam Guy."
"Alright, I'm sending you the bill from Cypher, his services are actually cheaper than I expected, he also told me to tell you that you can call him anything you have a need for his 'expertise', it seems he has taken a liking on you and the others."
"Got it, and Blorg?"
"Yeah, bro?"
"Thanks."
"Hahahahaha, no probs."
"The glove you made for Nacht is destroyed, do you think you can make another one?"
"Hahahaha, well of … wait, did you thank me to mellow me down and get me to make one right away?!"
"I have no idea what you're talking about Blorg, anyway, I'll send you the money for the new glove, make it a bit sturdier than the last one, alright?"
Carl didn't even wait for Blorg to start yelling and cursing him for being a cold-hearted bastard before hanging up, leaving Blorg to start yelling even more back in his hideout.
"Yo, you still alive?"
"Shut up, damn bastards, I fought so hard for nothing, didn't manage to kill that bitch, nor that annoying laser guy," Nacht said with some difficulty as he leaned against a wall and panted.
"Hey, at least you killed two B-grade heroes, that's not bad at all, at least you did as much as last time, I doubt you'll get a promotion or anything this time though."
Nacht rolled his eyes, ignoring the sarcastic remark. "Yeah, yeah, I know. But we need to figure out how Yuen got that new power. It's a game-changer, and we can't afford to underestimate her."
Carl's voice came through the communicator. "Nacht, we're analyzing the data from the battle. It's possible that Yuen obtained her new ability from an artifact. We'll need to investigate further to find out."
Nacht nodded, his mind already racing with thoughts of how to improve his own abilities. "Alright, let's get to work on that. In the meantime, I'll need some time to heal up and train."
As Nacht took a moment to catch his breath, he couldn't help but reflect on the battle. It had been one of the toughest fights he had ever been in, and the fact that he had survived against all odds filled him with a renewed sense of determination.
Yuen had used a weird artifact that allowed her to survive multiple blows from Nacht that would have otherwise killed her. The only thing they needed to find out right now was whether Yuen had borrowed the artifact from another hero, the HA, or if she had found it herself.
Many weird items and artifacts could actually be found outside of humanity's territory, which was a big reason why many heroes and villains go out to the monster regions to explore and fight.
By killing the monsters and eating their meat, one could actually become more powerful, their bodies would become stronger after eating enough meat, of course, the only way to improve the strength of the body even further was to eat more meat from more powerful monsters.
It was very similar to the Strength Pills that Carl had taken, but the main difference was that it didn't hurt, and one needed to eat a lot to gain benefits.
That was actually something Carl had only recently found out. A lot of information about the outside world was kept secret by the governments and the two organizations, the HA and the VSA.
Items and artifacts that came from long ago could be found, some man-made, some natural. After a long time, certain objects could gain extraordinary powers thanks to flux. Flux wasn't only around them, it was also coursing through the very planet.
Nobody knew why exactly that was so, but there were some places where flux was coming out of the ground in large volume, there were also underground veins where flux was heavily concentrated.
If items were left there, after some time, they would be influenced by the flux, they would change from ordinary objects to ones with supernatural powers.
"I'm going back to my hideout, it's going to take a while for me to heal."
"You sure you don't want the help of the VSA, I could try contacting an alchemist for some potions, those guys make some that can help your body heal itself faster, it's not an instant effect, nor will it help much during a battle, but they're quite good for your current state."
"Hmmm … why the hell not, send me some, just make sure they're not too expensive, I'm sure I'll get a reward for taking down those two, but it probably won't be a lot."
Carl nodded his head before Nacht started moving again. He was currently in the sewers and was making his way out of the city. With his powers, he was able to create a mask of sorts that helped him withstand the stench of the sewer.
As Nacht made his way through the dark and damp sewers, he couldn't help but think about the events that had unfolded during the battle. The appearance of Yuen's mysterious artifact had raised many questions, and he knew that he needed to find answers as soon as possible. He also needed to come up with a plan to counter her newfound power.
His thoughts were interrupted by a message from Carl. "Nacht, I've arranged for the alchemist to send you some healing potions. They should arrive at your hideout shortly. Just be careful not to overexert yourself while you recover."
Nacht grunted in acknowledgment, grateful for Carl's assistance. The healing potions would certainly speed up his recovery process, and he needed to be in top condition for their next encounter with Yuen and the other heroes.
As he continued his journey through the sewers, Nacht couldn't help but reflect on his own abilities. He had always pushed himself to the limit, constantly striving to become stronger. But this recent battle had shown him that there were still mysteries surrounding his powers that he hadn't fully explored.
His ability to manipulate reality itself and create objects had served him well, but it seemed that there was more to it than he had initially thought. The evolution of his abilities during the battle had taken him by surprise, and he needed to understand how and why it had happened.
For now, he was fully focused on getting back to his hideout without being noticed by any heroes, however.
