The older Anna could understand her mother's intentions well, while Edith, as more inexperienced and not so discreet, would be used as a pawn to say the hurtful words. If anything, they can just blame it on her young age and honest mindset, but the said truth will remain.

"Miss Arianell, what is your work with the military?"

Anna put on her smile while trying to appear as simply curious, while Edith asked questions without hesitation. They tried to figure her out through the interrogation masked as politeness, but Arianell only gave vague answers. They were obviously playing with her patience, yet she only showed amusement about their poor attempts.
