"Spider-Man, you're too late," Max Dillon transformed into human form near the cables, "It's my designed power grid, it belongs to me, and now I'm taking it back. I will control everything. To them, I am a god."
"The 'Spark' God, is that what you call yourself?" Peter Parker leaned on the clock tower, looking down at Max Dillon.
"Ya!" Max Dillon extended his hand, and a surge of electricity shot out, aiming directly at Peter Parker.
Dealing with this level of attack was natural for Peter Parker. He leaped into the air, evading the electrical surge. Descending several meters, he landed on a set of thick water pipes. He then shot webbing, attaching it to the pipes, and with a strong pull, burst the pipes open, releasing a powerful stream of water.
Using water to counter electricity seemed feasible, but it didn't work as intended.
"Don't even think about it this time," Max Dillon flew into the air, extending both hands as thick currents surged out, meeting the water stream in mid-air and stopping it.
"Is that all you've got? Come on!" Max Dillon's words were barely out of his mouth when the electrical current destroyed the water pipes, launching Peter Parker into the air.
Peter Parker wasn't one to give up easily. He shot out a strand of webbing and swung back, landing a kick on Max Dillon, sending him spinning in the air.
However, Max Dillon could fly. After spinning a few times, he remained suspended in the air, unaffected. He waved his hand, releasing another surge of electricity that attacked Peter Parker.
Max Dillon truly lived up to his nickname "Electro-Man." Not only could he emit electrical attacks, but he could also transform into electricity itself, making him immensely powerful to behold.
Yet, Peter Parker wasn't a pushover either, using his webbing, agility, and quick reflexes to hold his own against Max Dillon.
After a brief battle, the two of them tumbled in the air and landed on the ground.
Unfortunately, Peter Parker found himself underneath, with Max Dillon choking him. Unfazed, Peter asked, "Are you ready to give up?"
Max Dillon opened his mouth and released a ball of electricity from it, aiming for Peter Parker's head.
Peter Parker's suit was designed to conduct electricity, so the shock didn't have much effect. He pushed both hands against Max Dillon, propelling him into the air.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
Peter Parker shot two strands of webbing, sticking them to Max Dillon, who was hanging mid-air.
Max Dillon didn't struggle. Instead, he held onto the webbing with hands crackling with electricity. Visible currents traveled along the webbing towards Peter Parker's web shooters.
Based on the earlier conversation between Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, it was clear that the web shooters could be damaged by electrical currents. However, this time, the web shooters remained unscathed after the electrical surge passed through them.
"Thanks, Gwen Stacy," Peter Parker grabbed the webbing and yanked downward, pulling Max Dillon out of the sky. He slammed Max Dillon onto the ground with force.
Max Dillon, being electrified from head to toe, was not one to be easily subdued. After crashing, he emitted a surge of electricity, shocking Peter Parker and sending him flying.
"Almost got knocked out, but it's okay, just some bones, muscles, and organs," Peter Parker struggled to get up from the ground.
On the other hand, Max Dillon seemed to have gained a new lease on life. His body transformed into electricity and reformed into human shape beside Peter Parker, seemingly teleporting instantly. He moved lightning-fast, delivering a powerful punch that sent Peter Parker flying.
Boom! Boom! Boom!
Thick currents kept striking Peter Parker, and finally, Max Dillon extended both hands, using the electricity to restrain Peter Parker in mid-air.
"Spider-Man, I bet you've never seen this," Max Dillon seemed to be preparing some significant move, but before he could unleash it, screeching brakes sounded, and a car came hurtling in, directly hitting Max Dillon and knocking him aside, causing him to lose consciousness.
"No way, it worked? Successfully knocked him away?" Observing this, Tony Stark couldn't help but comment, "If only Peter's girlfriend knew how to use a gun, wouldn't Electro-Man have been dealt with already?"
"Although he can emit electricity and transform into it, his body appears to be that of an ordinary human, at least in human form," Stephen Strange said, "If a car can knock him unconscious, bullets should be able to kill him."
"Peter sure found himself a remarkable girl," Steve Rogers said, "This Gwen Stacy is brave, clever, and intelligent. She truly is a rare and exceptional girl."
"Such a good girl, it's a pity..." Phil Coulson asked Peter Parker, "From the video, this Gwen and Peter should be classmates. Do you have any girls named Gwen in your school?"
"Yes," Peter Parker looked up at Phil Coulson, "Not just one, there are several."
"Among them, does anyone have a cop for a father?" Nick Fury inquired.
"I... I don't know," Peter Parker shook his head, "In fact, I don't know any of those Gwens. I just know they exist; I've never talked to any of them."
"Can you get to know them a bit more?" Tony Stark chuckled, "Following the principle of 'better safe than sorry,' you should take down all these Gwens, one per week..."
"Tony, just shut it! You're a playboy yourself, don't corrupt Peter," Natasha Romanoff retorted irritably.
"Uh..." Tony Stark was taken aback, uncharacteristically without a retort, "Just a slip of the tongue, kid. Take it as a joke, don't take it seriously."
"A joke?" Peter Parker muttered, "But Gwen really is beautiful."
"Seriously? You glued me to a car?" The attractive Gwen Stacy emerged from the car in the video, angrily confronting Peter Parker, "Who do you think you are? A caveman?"
"You shouldn't have come here," Peter Parker held onto Gwen Stacy, trying to keep her away.
"You're trapping me to keep me out of the fight?" Gwen Stacy resisted, "I know how to help you!"
"Why are you here?" Peter Parker was growing frustrated; it was dangerous here, and she wouldn't leave.
"I read the instructions for the power grid. I can restart the system," Gwen Stacy said.
"You can't stay here now," Peter Parker grasped Gwen Stacy's shoulders, saying, "I'm not joking with you. You can't be here; it's too dangerous."
"Guess what? Nobody can make decisions for me! Nobody!" Gwen Stacy was also a stubborn girl. She looked at Peter Parker and declared, "This is my decision, okay? My decision, and I have the final say."
"Oh!" Peter Parker was truly at a loss, sighing in response.
"Now, how do we stop him?" Gwen Stacy asked.
"Okay, he's charged up, like a battery," Peter Parker had an idea, "What happens when a battery is overcharged?"
"It explodes," Gwen Stacy replied.
"Exactly," Peter Parker confirmed.
"So, we use his own electricity against him?" Gwen Stacy couldn't help but praise, "Perfect!"
"Okay, I can reconnect the cables, but I need you to reboot the system," Peter Parker turned around, earnestly instructing Gwen Stacy, "When I say 'restart the power,' you restart it. No matter what happens, no matter what, you must restart it."
"I don't mean to criticize, but Peter and his girlfriend have been talking for so long. If he had just taken a moment to zap Electro-Man in the head, wouldn't the problem have been solved by now?" Scott Lang couldn't help but comment when he saw this.
"Scott, we can stop crime, but we're not killers. We can't just take someone's life lightly," Steve Rogers said.
"I'm not saying we should kill him, not necessarily. Can't we just break his legs?" Scott Lang continued, "This guy got knocked away by a car when he wasn't conducting electricity. Obviously, he still has vulnerabilities as a human. Break his limbs, and what can he do?"
"Scott, that's not how we operate," Steve Rogers stated.
"I have to admit, Scott has a point," Thor spoke up, his voice deep, "This Electro-Man, his destructive power is evident to all, very significant. Only heroes like Peter can hold their own against him, ordinary people have no means to fight back. If left unchecked, there might be more innocent lives lost to him."
"Thor, it's not right to punish someone for a crime they haven't committed yet. Don't you think he's being treated unfairly?" Bruce Banner said, "And how do you know this Electro-Man will harm others? Clearly, he knows Peter, and perhaps his actions in the video are just personal vendetta against Peter, a private grudge."
While they were debating, Max Dillon, who had been knocked unconscious by the car, woke up and unleashed a powerful electrical surge towards Peter Parker.
Peter Parker found an opportunity to use his webbing to bind Max Dillon's hands and then shot webbing onto the broken cables.
Just as Peter Parker was attempting to connect the webbing to the cables, Max Dillon broke free from his grasp, extended his hands, and shot out thick electrical currents, hitting him.
"Now, Gwen! Quickly! Reboot!" Peter Parker endured the shock from the electricity, struggling to connect the webbing, and shouted.
Gwen Stacy was prepared and immediately acted upon hearing Peter Parker's voice, pulling a lever.
Instantly, the previously severed cables received power again, and thick electrical currents surged into Max Dillon's body.
The city's lights started flickering on one by one, gradually bringing light back to the darkened city.
Meanwhile, Max Dillon, being "overcharged," was in excruciating pain. He screamed and struggled as his body convulsed. His former dominance while pursuing Peter Parker was nowhere to be found.
"Ah!!!"
A long, agonizing scream echoed through the night sky as Max Dillon's body exploded one part at a time, finally erupting in a massive explosion and disappearing from this world.
Watching Electro-Man being vanquished, Gwen Stacy walked out, and Peter Parker let out a sigh of relief. He smiled at Gwen Stacy and said, "I think we can still catch that plane."
"Haha!" Suddenly, a very eerie laughter echoed in the night sky.
Peter Parker turned to look and saw a figure appearing in the night sky, soaring on a glider.
"This new arrival must be the Green Goblin," Clint Barton said inside the answering space.
"His suit and what he's riding on are both green. There's no mistaking it," Natasha Romanoff confirmed.
"Feels like this 'Little Green Goblin' is not as impressive as the previous Electro-Man," Scott Lang remarked.
"What I'm wondering is, where's the 'Big Green Goblin'?" Bruce Banner chimed in, "Green Goblin is Green Goblin, why add 'Little' in front? Could there be a 'Big Green Goblin' too?"
"That's possible," Steve Rogers said, "It's like the difference between the first and second Ant-Men, same suit, different people wearing it."
"Then why not call him the 'Second Green Goblin'?" Scott Lang continued, "It sounds smoother to say 'Second Green Goblin' than 'Little Green Goblin,' don't you think?"
In the video, the Little Green Goblin floated on the ground, his gaze first on Peter Parker, then twisting to glance at Gwen Stacy.
From his changing expressions, it was clear that he knew both Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy.
"Peter, when you say Spider-Man can't do something, it's you saying you can't," Harry Osborn's voice carried anger.
"Harry, what have you done?" Peter Parker was taken aback by his friend's appearance.
"It's you who pushed me to this point," Harry Osborn's face twisted into a sinister smile, "You're my friend, but you betrayed me!"
"It's not true," Peter Parker said, "I was trying to protect you."
"Oh, look at me now," Harry Osborn laughed bitterly.
"It'll be okay, everything will be okay," Peter Parker reassured.
"You didn't offer hope, you took hope away. I'm going to take away your hope too," Harry Osborn turned and flew towards Gwen Stacy. Despite Peter Parker's warning for his girlfriend to run, there was no way she could outrun flight. She was caught in midair.
"Harry, put her down!" Peter Parker swung on his webbing, chasing Harry Osborn through the night sky. He attempted to use his webbing to pull Harry Osborn down, but unfortunately, even as he climbed up the clock tower to its highest point, he couldn't catch Harry Osborn.
The limitations of Spider-Man were becoming evident at this moment. His webbing relied heavily on the environment; if there was nothing for the webbing to latch onto, Spider-Man was helpless.
Just like now, Peter Parker was standing at the highest point, but Harry Osborn was hovering above him. What could he do?
"Harry, stop!" Peter Parker shouted up to Harry Osborn, "This isn't you, Harry. You're not like this! Harry, let her go!"
"Harry!" In the night sky, Gwen Stacy, caught by Harry Osborn, also called out.
"Harry is dead!" Harry Osborn shouted.
"Harry, this is between you and me!" Peter Parker resorted to goading when reason failed, "Do you want a duel? Then come and fight me. Let her go!"
"Okay." Harry Osborn released his grip, letting Gwen Stacy plummet.
"No!" Peter Parker leaped high into the air, catching Gwen Stacy. They crashed through the clock tower's glass and descended.
Bang!
They landed inside the clock tower. Peter Parker bore the brunt of the impact as he cushioned their fall.
"Are you okay?" Peter Parker asked with concern, holding Gwen Stacy in his arms. She shook her head, indicating she was fine.
Clang!
A Green Goblin bomb dropped from above, exploding beside them. The force shattered the metal panel they were lying on, and Gwen Stacy fell again.
Peter Parker acted swiftly, extending his webbing to catch Gwen Stacy in midair.
"I've got you, Gwen. I'll place you there," Peter Parker's hand released and caught Gwen Stacy again, then he used a web to secure her to a gear a few meters below.
With Gwen settled, he turned to face Harry Osborn and engaged in battle.
During the earlier speculation about their strengths, everyone assumed Harry Osborn was the "countdown." Now it seemed clear that he was not as formidable as Electro-Man, and he was losing ground in the battle. Peter Parker managed to knock him down from the sky.
Battle was indeed a rapidly changing affair, where any small detail could lead to irreplaceable losses.
And now, the situation was just that.
Peter Parker had managed to knock Harry Osborn down, but his Green Goblin glider had fallen, directly crashing into the gear where Gwen Stacy had been resting. Gwen, who had just been caught, was falling again.
Swish!
Peter Parker shot out his web, catching Gwen Stacy, then quickly pulled her upward, hoping to bring her back up.
But there was a real danger approaching.
Not for Peter Parker, but for Gwen Stacy.
At this moment, she was suspended mid-air, held only by a strand of Peter Parker's webbing. Peter Parker himself was lying on a gear, wrestling with Harry Osborn. Inevitably, the strand of webbing supporting Gwen Stacy began to hang down.
Now, the gear was beginning to turn, and it was about to cut through that strand of webbing!
Peter Parker naturally noticed this. He lifted his leg and wedged his foot against one of the giant gear's teeth, forcefully halting the gear's rotation.
Peter Parker held Harry Osborn's neck with one strand of webbing while using his foot to stop the gear from turning. At the same time, Harry Osborn was also forcefully choking Peter Parker.
The two of them were locked in this stalemate, maintaining an eerie balance.
But this balance was soon shattered.
The gear broke!
The strand of webbing was severed!
"Peter!" In Gwen Stacy's final cry, she once again began to plummet downward.
Due to the chain reaction within the gears, the broken gear triggered a collapse of multiple gears, and the mechanical force sent Harry Osborn flying, causing him to crash and lose consciousness.
Finally, there was no one to disturb Spider-Man's rescue of his girlfriend!
He leaped off, disengaging from the gear, and dived headfirst to pursue Gwen Stacy.
However, according to Newton's laws, relying solely on gravity, Peter Parker would not be able to catch up to Gwen Stacy.
The diligent student Peter Parker was well aware of this, so while in mid-air, he shot out webbing towards Gwen Stacy, attempting to catch her with it.
Amidst the falling gears and mechanical components, a sparkling and translucent strand of webbing charged down without hesitation, piercing through obstacles and heading straight for Gwen Stacy.
Finally, the webbing caught Gwen Stacy!
Peter Parker quickly grabbed onto a beam with one hand, stabilizing himself.
Due to inertia, Gwen Stacy fell for a moment before bouncing back up, suspended by the webbing.
It seemed like a successful rescue.
However, everyone knew it was a failure.
Firstly, the question posed was who killed Spider-Man's girlfriend, and the question itself revealed the answer: Gwen Stacy was dead.
Secondly, everyone clearly saw that when Gwen Stacy fell that one time before being caught by the webbing, her body had made contact with the ground.
From such a height, and without Peter Parker's physical attributes, an ordinary person couldn't withstand that kind of impact.
High above, Peter Parker had witnessed this scene. He quickly attached the other end of the webbing to the beam and jumped down.
From dozens of meters high, his leap appeared weightless, almost soundless.
His body was truly resilient.
"Gwen! Hey! Gwen!" Peter Parker removed his mask, holding Gwen Stacy and calling her name over and over.
However, Gwen Stacy's eyes remained closed, and despite Peter Parker's calls, she never responded.
