Capítulo 112: TTW Chapter 112: Protecting Lin Yi?
Erwin stayed quiet; what Hanji had just said echoed his own worries.
Though Lin Yi had reassured him that he didn't need to worry, he knew that if something did happen, it would cause a lot of problems.
"Let's agree to his request," Levi stated firmly.
Compared to Hanji's concerns, he was more worried about how the Survey Corps was currently doing. The funds for the unit had been decreasing over the years.
You see, even though the Survey Corps was well-known and claimed to be saving humanity, they hadn't really achieved much in all these years. It had become quite difficult to explain their lack of results.
With Lin Yi's help, the Survey Corps could finally breathe a sigh of relief and get some extra time and opportunities.
Lin Yi didn't keep them waiting for long. Almost as soon as he got back home, a messenger from the Survey Corps arrived. They had agreed to Lin Yi's terms.
And not just that, they also let Lin Yi know that they were gearing up for their next exploration outside the walls.
Originally, this exploration was supposed to be delayed for a while, but because of Lin Yi's support, they were able to speed things up.
As promised, Lin Yi arranged for the trading company to gather a bunch of supplies for the Survey Corps.
It was almost as much as their yearly budget.
"Do you need me to go with you?" Eto knew Lin Yi was going to leave the city and asked.
"It's probably not a good idea to bring another person. With a whole entourage and this young lady, they might think I'm just going on a vacation."
Lin Yi said casually as he fixed his clothes in front of the mirror.
Since he was going on an external exploration, he couldn't wear his usual suits. Instead, he was dressed in a military uniform borrowed from the Survey Corps.
Eto understood and didn't insist. She was happy with their life as it was.
Based on what Lin Yi knew, Eto had a few close friends and they often played cards and went shopping together.
It might sound pretty normal, but for Eto, this kind of ordinary life was something she had always wanted.
"I'll keep an eye on the city for you," Eto offered.
"You handle things, and I trust you." Lin Yi didn't say much more. He was ready to head out. The Survey Corps's team, led by him, was waiting outside the trading company.
There was a bit of a crowd gathered around, curious to see what was going on.
Over the years, the economic damage caused by the fall of the Maria District had mostly been repaired. The streets were no longer filled with refugees.
"Mr. Lin, nice to see you again."
When Lin Yi appeared, Hanji greeted, "Mr. Lin, that military uniform really suits you."
"Thanks for the compliment."
Lin Yi smiled and replied.
Erwin brought a lively horse.
"Sorry, Mr. Lin, for this external exploration, we don't have carriages, so we'll have to ride horses."
Lin Yi understood. However, he wasn't all that great at riding horses, even though he'd lived two lives. He hadn't really had many chances to be around horses.
Luckily, the horse Erwin had brought was calm and easy to handle. Lin Yi got on it without any trouble.
Using his quick learning skills, Lin Yi figured out how to ride the horse after a few tries.
But for the members of the Survey Corps, it was quite a sight. They couldn't help but sigh when they saw that he wasn't very experienced with riding, which added more to their responsibilities.
And so, the Survey Corps began their journey.
Due to the fall of the Maria District, the road that led directly outside the walls from Rose had been blocked. That's why they had to use the Wall to get outside.
They followed the Wall and reached the top of the Maria Wall. From there, they found a spot and used ropes to lower everyone down.
They had agreed on a time when someone would reattach the ropes on the wall to help the Survey Corps return.
Of course, Erwin couldn't completely ignore Lin Yi's safety. So, as they traveled through the wilderness, Lin Yi noticed a small team was following them.
It was led by Hanji himself.
Lin Yi pretended not to notice.
"This is the outside world, the air feels so fresh."
"I hope you'll feel the same way in the future." Lin Yi's excitement contrasted with the somewhat downbeat mood of the Survey Corps soldiers nearby. They didn't seem as excited about the outside world.
A slightly older soldier named Mike made a sarcastic comment. Lin Yi had influenced him too. He was one of the stronger members of the Survey Corps and had sacrificed himself in the original story to protect students during a retreat. He fell victim to the Beast Titan's attack.
For them, the outside world wasn't a place of freedom; it was more like a hell.
"Don't mind Mike. He's always like that," Hanji tried to lighten the mood. "But it's true that the air outside is clearer."
"Roar!"
Just as Lin Yi was about to respond, a distant roar echoed, startling everyone.
The ground shook, and they all turned to see a large Abnormal Titan running toward them in an odd posture.
"Stay alert!"
Outside the walls, encountering Titan attacks was always a possibility.
The soldiers of the Survey Corps were highly skilled and didn't panic.
"First and second squads, be on guard."
"Third squad, move in. There's only one Titan, estimated to be ten meters tall. Deal with it quickly, but be cautious."
Erwin commanded loudly.
"Understood."
The soldiers responded loudly. Hanji, the captain of the third squad, patted Lin Yi's chest lightly, looking proud and confident.
"Don't worry, don't get nervous. Big sister will protect you."
With that, Hanji rode away with the third squad soldiers, charging toward the approaching Titan.
"Protect me?"
Lin Yi was momentarily stunned as Hanji rode off.
His lips twitched. Was he being treated like a helpless beginner?
"That's interesting."
Shaking his head, Lin Yi observed the approaching Titan. It was an ordinary Abnormal, and there didn't seem to be any other Titans nearby, uninterested in the commotion.
As he expected, the Survey Corps's soldiers, with their combat skills, wouldn't have much trouble dealing with a single Abnormal Titan.
