Capítulo 6: CH-6: Lord Duties

<><><>

Jorah had his mind spinning in a thousand circles.

'Beyond the wall, the great cause? Isn't it the White Walkers? What else can it be? Besides, he had plans before the Night King came with his army.

Stealing the wildfire, trading the dragon glass, raising an army, uniting the wildlings and bringing them towards the south side of the wall. Every plan is already thought of, and he is already preparing for that disaster.

But now, even the Gods have chosen him? The three-eyed raven was never a true god. And he chose Bran Stark in the end. So why the sudden change?

However, it was impossible to ask these questions.

"How do I awaken the power? Is there a ritual or something?" Jorah asked the only thing he could.

"No. Not a ritual. Our Gods are not like that. Come here." The strange man brought Jorah to the place where he was sitting initially. The ground beneath the large weirwood was covered with some animal furs. Jorah saw the man picking up a bowl and stabbing the tree. A white sap started flowing out of the tree, and the man hurriedly collected it before thanking the gods.

"Come. Sit here and drink it."

"Just sit and drink the tree sap?" Jorah was slightly nervous about magic and this gift when he saw the process was so simple. Besides, he was wary of the three-eyed raven.

"Aye! Don't worry. If the Gods wanted to hurt you, they won't show me your vision."

"Hmmm.."

Jorah took the bowl and drank it clean before falling straight to the ground.

"Sleep Well, the Bear Lord! Many lives depend upon it!" The man spoke before covering Jorah with another thick fur and sitting nearby him. Far away, the bear who brought them here stood up, walked outside the cave, and started watching the trees.

Wary of Ravens and acting as naturally as possible. He can't allow the three-eyed Raven to interfere with Jorah.

Jorah awoke in a white snowy field and in front of him was the biggest weirwood tree he had ever seen. It was lush and filled with red leaves surrounded by green grass.

It was like a piece of land that didn't belong in the North.

"Wait…This is beyond the wall!"

"Yes, it is, Lord Jorah Mormont!" An old childish voice suddenly came startling him.

Jorah tried to look around him but there was no one, just the tree and snow.

"Come when you think you are ready…." The voice spoke one last time before Jorah was pushed back and he immediately sat up in the bearwoods with panic.

"Did you meet the Gods, Lord Jorah?"

Jorah saw the man sitting near him and wanted to speak but he couldn't think or make sense of what he saw. Why was the three-eyed Raven calling him? He sounded as if he was in a hurry, why?

The main story will start after sixteen-seventeen years and the old bastard was still alive after that.

"Yeah! I think. I don't know if it was the Old God or someone else," Jorah finally replied before getting back on his feet and stretching his body.

"It was. Beware of the raven, Lord Jorah, so they speak the false words and tempt with false dreams."

The man spoke again before his eyes turned white and he became silent.

"Wait…What Ravens? Speak up. Hey!"

Jorah tried to shake the man and wake him up, but the man was truly lost in his bear body and had lost his sense.

"Fuck! A stupid mystery…." Jorah mumbled before leaving the passed-out 'Uncle' and waking back. After coming out of the cave, the bear was there to guide him once again.

"I know something about the three-eyed Raven. He is supposed to be the speaker of Old Gods. Why should I be wary of him?"

Jorah again asked the bear but the bear didn't reply and kept walking.

Jorah left the bearwoods with more questions he had and the power he never thought he will receive in this life.

That night, while Jorah was sleeping in the arms of his beautiful wife, he dreamt of walking across the woods and jumping into the freshwater lake before grabbing a fish.

Then he saw his reflection in the water. A bear cub that was barely few years old.

"Ha ha ha…." The bear sub started laughing before tearing apart the fish and having his fill.

Jorah also tried skinchanging with other animals and he would succeed and fail continuously while testing his powers. However, he still had no idea about the Raven thing and no matter how much tried, the new 'uncle' simply refused to speak about him.

Plus, his aunt, dumped all the lord duties back on Jorah before taking her daughter and new Lady of Bear Islands and leaving him alone.

Jorah was initially scared after looking at the mountains of scrolls filled with different complaints, pending decisions and many other petty things. However, being a Lord is a huge advantage in this world.

Your word is the final word and your word is the law of the land. He basically bulldozed his way and the mountain of scrolls collapsed under his might.

However, the work of his fellow advisors - the master-of-trade, master-of-arms and master-of-coin, on the ruling council, increased as they needed to recheck these and speak their thoughts if they had a different idea than Jorah.

Thankfully, most of the decisions taken by Jorah were very kind, like not cutting the hand of some thief or sending a young boy to the wall who killed his abusive father. Hence, there was less discussion on matters of justice and most of the debate was on the copper for the boats, army and farmers.

Delivering justice was a huge part of the lord's duties and Jorah was getting tired of it. Debate about finance was good and there should be more of that. He should not be busy settling sheep theft cases. Then he smacked his head and remembered the task he gave to their Maester before leaving for war.
