Capítulo 120: Prodigy’s Solution

Swsh!

Arum swung his sword again.

"Bring another one!"

He won another duel.

"Again!"

Again.

He swung his sword mindlessly, winning duel after duel.

That fight, replayed in his mind every day.

His swordsmanship was lacking.

Or was it his strength?

There was a knock at his door.

Arum sighed, placing his sword down and walking over to the door.

"Happy Birthday!" his friends yelled out. They held a cake in front of him.

It was the entire student council, along with some of Arum's other friends.

— I had… forgotten about my birthday. Completely.

He stared at the cake, panting and sweating.

. . .

. .

.

"Happy birthday, kid. You seemed pretty surprised to see us."

His senior, Ava, had also attended. She had graduated Dinet's Boarding School early. She was from the prestigious Rhudi family, inheriting their orange eyes and dark navy hair.

"Thank you."

"You're sitting here, all alone, instead of enjoying the party? Everyone's looking for you."

"I'll be there soon. I just prefer solitude at times."

"Hm. That definitely sounds like you, Arum!" Ava laughed.

Arum laughed along with her, awkwardly.

"Yeah… That does sound like me."

— There's no reason for me to indulge in such matters. I have to get stronger.

"Well, everyone's waiting for you. You could at least try the cake."

"…"

Ava got up, and entered the main room.

— I guess I could…

. . .

. .

.

"You're a monster, you know that? You killed me."

Lyrei stared at Julian's mangled corpse, her eyes scattering.

"I-It wasn't me… I.."

"You're… worse than I thought, Lyrei. If I knew you would be the cause of my death… I would've never tagged along."

He crawled closer and closer to Lyrei.

The space got tighter and tighter, the closer Julian got.

As he got closer, she could see the wounds that Julian faced. His skin was peeling off, from that monster's stomach acid.

There was some kind of marine plant growing in his wounds, festering.

Worms and maggots and creatures of that nature crawled out of his right eye socket and his other open wounds.

But she could tell that it was Julian, from his left eye.

"N-No! Pl-please!"

Lyrei sprung out of bed, panting.

— It was just… a nightmare.

She placed her hand on her forehead, feeling the drops of sweat.

"This is happening… way too much."
