Capítulo 62: Confrontation

The mage art the guard casted this time summoned several spikes of earth that floated into the air above his head, and all of them pointed towards one point in particular, directly at the blindfolded omen.

The guard that casted the spell now had a pale expression on his face for some reason. It seemed he'd overexerted himself a bit when casting the spell, but this did little to erase the small grin he now possessed.

'Die.'

Just like that, several sturdy and sharp looking spikes of earth headed straight towards Marcus.

By the time the attack was being launched at Marcus, the blindfolded boy had already surmised several things from the current events.

Firstly, though omen were a common enemy amongst the inhabitants of Terra, there were rules in place that prevented the needless slaughter of them, at least within the Uceris kingdom.

Secondly, the stranger was definitely an omen as well, but no one seemed to question his authority, either due to his own power, the rules, or maybe even a combination of both.

And last but not least, the guard in front of him was now going for the kill instead of severe injury, and though this was in direct contrast to Marcus's first hypothesis, he stood there calmy as the spikes approached him.

When the spikes were only within several meters of Marcus's face a shocking scene occurred.

The spikes that should have skewered Marcus like a kabob stood frozen in place as if the attack had been called off at the last moment.

"Huh?!"

Clearly though, this wasn't the case as the perpetrator of the attack was just as bewildered as everyone else.

The crowd of people were both confused and disappointed by the turn of events. Though none of them would openly show their dissatisfaction, they were looking forward to seeing the creature in front of them put down.

Amongst the people in the vicinity, Marcus was one of the few that hadn't moved a single inch, even as one of the spears floated only a few centimeters from where his eyes would be. He only stood there gazing in one particular direction, the same place the stranger was standing.

Just before the attack had finished casting, Marcus noticed a tiny concentration of mana being formed beside the stranger, and when he noticed this, he confirmed something very important.

The guards attack's wouldn't be able to harm him.

The stranger held Marcus's gaze and also hadn't moved a muscle, but it was evident he'd helped Marcus if one looked at the now 'floating' spikes.

There, right under each of the earth spikes were shadows. Each spike had one, and each had a thin line connecting the shadow to the spike. The line was so thin that no one except Marcus, Mia, and Skyler were aware of what happened. Everyone else could only remain curious and bewildered and Marcus would have been two had it not been for his unique eyes.

At some point, Marcus looked back towards the guard and recalled what he'd said about his parents. He wasn't sure what it was the guard planned to say towards the end, but he was sure if the guard finished, he'd kill the guard.

Because of this, Marcus failed to suppress some of his darker emotions from oozing forth, and a familiar dark aura began to take shape around Marcus's body.

Unfortunately, because of this he'd attracted the attention of one of the few dangerous individuals present here.

Just as his aura was beginning to completely darken and become visible, a white streak of light appeared directly behind Marcus.

This white streak was Skyler.

He couldn't even react to Skyler's speed as the woman uttered an incantation directly behind his back. All Marcus could do was listen to the soft voice that entered his ears as he stood ignorant to the impending peril behind him.

"Lux Dory."

A seven foot long spear of light formed in Skyler's hand as she held her hand outward preparing to thrust. She reached Marcus in seconds and as she dug her feet into the ground to stop her forward momentum, she used that same momentum and force to execute a quick thrust directly into Marcus's back.

The scene could only be described as dangerously beautiful.

A fierce maiden of white wielded a spear of light which she prepared to extinguish the darkness before her. The darkness in front of her was both foreboding and ominous and as such only seemed to heighten the feelings of elegance and grace that exuded from the battle maiden. However, everyone seemed to forget that the dark aura being emitted hadn't come from some powerful entity or monster, but a mere thirteen year old boy.

Sadly no one viewed Marcus as such.

Just as the spear was about to make contact though, the world went dark.

"Darkus Invictus"

With those words alone a tiny dome of darkness formed around Marcus and Skyler. Not even a few seconds had passed since Skyler initiated her attack so not many registered what was happening and this seemed to be the stranger's intent.

Just as quickly as the dome of darkness appeared, it vanished even quicker. Now, in the spot where Marcus and Skyler once stood, there was only a trail of upheaved dirt where Skyler's foot had dug into the ground. It was the only evidence that what had happened earlier occurred at all.

Skyler now stood back beside Mia, who had barely managed to notice when her sister had moved to attack, so she was bewildered at the fact Skyler now stood next to her again. Skyler on the other hand, only stood their with a frown on her face and was more annoyed than confused.

She seemed to be well aware of how she'd gotten back to her original position.

Additionally, Marcus now stood beside the stranger who now placed a hand on his shoulder. The boy wasn't nearly as calm as his face would have some believe. His mind was in mild disarray, and had the blindfold not been present, one would see an evident look of confusion on his face.

"I believe that is enough," A calm yet authoritative voice spoke to end the silence.

Everyone turned to look at the stranger and Marcus. They were confused as to how he'd gotten over there, but didn't dare to question the being standing beside him. However, not everyone here feared the man standing beside Marcus as the woman who'd tried to kill Marcus earlier spoke out.

"What do you think you're doing Aramin?"
