Capítulo 10: 10

The next morning, Rajesh Kumar and Priya Patel came to Shanti High School together.

Surprisingly, Meena Sharma followed the two of them.

However, the group dynamics had completely changed.

In the past, Rajesh Kumar kept trying to start a conversation with Meena Sharma, but she was as proud as a peacock, always ignoring him.

Now, Rajesh Kumar and Priya Patel walked shoulder to shoulder, chatting and laughing along the way. Meena Sharma couldn't get a word in.

When they arrived at the school gate, Rajesh Kumar and Priya Patel agreed to sign up with Virtuoso at one in the afternoon. Priya Patel then reluctantly parted ways with Rajesh Kumar.

Meena Sharma's displeasure was written all over her face. She felt terrible.

In the past, when Rajesh Kumar was fawning over her, she didn't feel anything.

Now that she saw Rajesh Kumar and Priya Patel being so intimate, chatting and laughing all the way, she felt miserable.

It was as if her toy had been snatched away by someone else.

"I'm just not used to it yet. Yes, I'm just not used to it yet." Meena Sharma made an excuse for herself.

"I have Rahul Verma now! He's a better candidate. Let bygones be bygones."

"Not only does Rahul Verma have good grades, but he's also very good at programming. He's bringing me on his team to participate in the competition, so I might be able to skip the university entrance examination and gain admission to the Indian Institute of Technology."

"Whether it's grades, sense of humour, or family background, Rahul Verma is better than Rajesh Kumar." Meena Sharma kept comforting herself in her heart. Gradually, she didn't feel so bad anymore. The way she looked at Rajesh Kumar also became cold again.

"Rajesh Kumar has never fancied Priya Patel. He has always fancied..."

"Maybe it's because of my relationship with Rahul Verma that provoked Rajesh Kumar. That's why he is purposely showing me how close he is to Priya Patel." Meena Sharma's mood completely improved when she thought of this.

Throughout the entire morning, Rajesh Kumar listened attentively during class. After class, he was focused on reading.

Meena Sharma did not say a single word to Rajesh Kumar the whole time.

When class ended at noon, two lines of notifications flashed on the translucent panel in front of Rajesh Kumar.

[You have accumulated 200 minutes of listening time in class. You have received 2,000 experience value points. You have 2,289 experience value points remaining in the Experience Pool.]

[You have accumulated 200 minutes of listening time in class. You have received 2,000 experience value points. You have 2,289 experience value points remaining in the Experience Pool.]

Learning from the experience of the day before, Rajesh Kumar was not in a hurry to upgrade his Senior High School Knowledge to Master level.

After having his fill in the canteen, he immediately went to the school library.

He had learned computing basics, operating system principles, and assembly language the day before.

The main focus of the Junior Informatics Programming Competition was C language programming.

In addition, when he signed up with Virtuoso, he would be asking random questions about the C language.

If he couldn't answer, he wouldn't even be allowed to sign up.

A book on overview of C language, from novice to proficient, a book on the analysis of common C language functions, and one more on database case studies.

These three books were specially chosen by Rajesh Kumar. As long as he studied all three books and memorized them, while

he wouldn't be able to say for sure that he would emerge champion of the Competition, but getting into the top 50 would not be a problem.

"The three books add up to 1,478 pages. There is enough time." Rajesh Kumar chose a quiet seat and sat down.

Master level Focus skill, activate!

Instantly, Rajesh Kumar felt extremely clear-headed and refreshed. He analyzed all the information he read immediately.

All types of surreal lights kept flashing non-stop in his mind.

The ability to speed read ten lines at a glance, a photographic memory, and the ability to internalize all the information acted together in Rajesh Kumar's body.

Rajesh Kumar focused with great intensity as he flipped through the C language from Novice to Proficient book.

Whoosh! Whoosh!

The pages were flipped at a breakneck pace, making a rhythmic sound.

He only needed to take a glance at each page to memorize the contents.

As he quickly flipped through the first book- an overview of C language, algorithms, data types, operators and expressions, functions, pointers, and other programming knowledge-603 pages were digested by Rajesh Kumar in 20 minutes. Then, he internalized the knowledge into his knowledge system.

He could now answer the question that Virtuoso asked on pointer the night before.

"The pointer refers to the memory address. It describes the location of the data in the memory and indicates the relative distance value of an entity occupying the storage space at the beginning of this section of space."

Analysis of common C language functions, 507 pages, took him 17 minutes!

The book on database case studies was the thinnest. It was 368 pages and was read in 13 minutes.

[You have accumulated 50 minutes of reading time. You have received 50 experience value points. You have 2,379 experience value points remaining in the Experience Pool.]

Rajesh Kumar did not immediately stand up after reading all three books.

He began to recall the information on computer basics, principles of operating systems, assembly languages, C language, and database knowledge. He summarized and classified the information in his mind to form a complete knowledge system.

Three minutes later, Rajesh Kumar stood up with a confident smile on his face.

"In terms of theoretical knowledge, even those who specialize in programming might not be as good as me." Rajesh Kumar was confident that even Virtuoso was not as strong as him in terms of theoretical foundation.

His only shortcoming now was his actual hands-on experience.

"Let's sign up for the exam first and get the slot to participate in the competition." Rajesh Kumar was not worried at all about lacking hands-on experience. The previous year's competition questions were all available online. As long as he read and practised more, he would improve very quickly.

...

The teachers' room was especially crowded today because of the Junior Informatics Programming Competition.

...

Many students who knew programming felt that this was a rare opportunity. They signed up with the mentality that even if they didn't win, the experience would be beneficial.

When Rajesh Kumar got there, there were still 11 people queuing up in front of him to register.

Everyone was asked a question on C language before signing up.

The person in front of Rajesh Kumar was Rahul Verma.

Meena Sharma was standing beside Rahul Verma, chatting while queueing.

Meena Sharma was surprised when she saw that Rajesh Kumar came to sign up.

When Rajesh Kumar said that he wanted to participate in the competition, she didn't believe him for a second. That was because she genuinely doubted that he had the ability.

Could someone who didn't even manage his studies learn how to program well?

"Rajesh Kumar, you came to sign up?

I thought you were just fooling around and you only said it out of spite." Meena Sharma's voice was filled with astonishment.

"I said I will sign up, so naturally I have to come," Rajesh Kumar replied. He looked around trying to spot Priya Patel.

"Meena Sharma, signing up and being accepted are two separate matters. Don't be so surprised." Rahul Verma sneered and deliberately leaned closer to Meena Sharma and whispered into her ear.

...

"If Rajesh Kumar were capable, he would have signed up last night. Why did he have to wait until today to queue up here?"

"I'm guessing that he must have crammed last minute and then come here to try his luck." Rahul Verma's tone was very disdainful.

While Rahul Verma and Meena Sharma were whispering to each other, Priya Patel spotted Rajesh Kumar. She walked over with a smile on her face and stood with Rajesh Kumar.

Meena Sharma's mood turned foul instantly.

"Rajesh Kumar, it's fine if you've come to just try your luck. But it would be very embarrassing when you don't have an answer for the teacher's question later."

"It doesn't matter to you, but Priya Patel is a girl. It's not good for her to be embarrassed together with you," Meena Sharma couldn't help but say as if she was thinking about Priya Patel's face.

"I believe in Rajesh Kumar!" Priya Patel smiled and didn't say much.

Just like when Rajesh Kumar had told her to participate in the competition, she had no doubts.

In any case, what she cared about was Rajesh Kumar and not the competition. If he lost, so be it. If he lost face, so be it. It was that simple.

"Meena Sharma, besides Priya Patel, there is one last vacancy on my team. Are you joining?" Rajesh Kumar looked intently at Meena Sharma. He had decided to invite her one last time, after which, his conscience would be clear.

He was confident that he could emerge in the top 50 in the country. One spot meant one qualification to enter the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

"What a joke!" Meena Sharma shook her head with disdain.

She would have to be stupid to abandon Rahul Verma, who was good at programming, and team up with Rajesh Kumar.

She even felt that Rajesh Kumar wouldn't succeed in signing up.

Capítulo 11: 11

Rajesh Kumar frowned and was very unhappy. Just as Priya Patel was about to tell Meena Sharma off, Rajesh Kumar stopped her from doing so.

"Rajesh Kumar, the journey is as important as the outcome. No matter what the outcome is, the journey itself will enrich our lives." Priya Patel was worried that Meena Sharma's words would hurt Rajesh Kumar, so she comforted him.

Rajesh Kumar smiled and shook his head. "Priya, don't worry. I'm fine."

"Do you trust me?"

Priya Patel nodded without hesitation. "I do!"

"Then just wait to go to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)." Rajesh Kumar said with extreme confidence.

"Okay!" Priya Patel nodded again.

Rahul Verma, Meena Sharma, and Rajesh Kumar were not standing far away from each other, so they could naturally hear Rajesh Kumar's words.

Hearing what Rajesh Kumar said, the two of them looked at each other and couldn't help but curl their lips and smirk.

Enrol in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT).

To gain admission to the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), one had to get into the top 50 in the competition.

Even he might not be able to do it. Could Rajesh Kumar do it?

He was simply daydreaming!

While they had seen arrogant people before, this was the first time they had seen someone as arrogant as Rajesh Kumar.

In just a few minutes, the queue moved forward quickly and Rahul Verma was already standing in front of Virtuoso.

"How many types of loops are there in C language?" Virtuoso glanced at Rahul Verma and asked with a straight face.

"For loop, While loop, Do-while loop!" Rahul Verma was extremely confident and answered the question.

"Yes, go to the side and fill out the form. After school in the afternoon, go to the school information classroom and wait for the exam."

"Rahul Verma, your programming foundation is not bad. I know that. With your standard, if you work hard during this period and are lucky, you can be in the top 50 in the country." Virtuoso looked up at Rahul Verma with a hint of admiration in his eyes.

Rahul Verma's mastery of the C language was quite good. Although there was still a gap between him and a professional programmer, it was indeed rare for someone to reach Rahul Verma's level in senior high school.

"Thank you, Virtuoso. I'll work hard." Rahul Verma couldn't hide the smugness on his face when his teacher praised him in front of so many people.

When Meena Sharma heard the teacher's praise, her face was radiant and beaming. Then, she deliberately turned her head and glanced at Rajesh Kumar.

Although she didn't say a single word, Rajesh Kumar and Priya Patel understood what she meant. She was showing off, telling Rajesh Kumar and Priya Patel that she had betted on the right horse.

"Virtuoso, I want to sign up!" Rajesh Kumar shook his head and brought Priya Patel to Virtuoso.

"Rajesh Kumar? You also came to register?" Virtuoso's expression was still serious, but his eyes were filled with surprise.

"Yes!" Rajesh Kumar nodded with a confident smile.

"Alright then, tell me the difference between the While loop and the Do-while loop." Virtuoso suppressed the surprise in his heart. Rajesh Kumar didn't do well in school, but this didn't mean that Rajesh Kumar didn't know how to program. These are two separate matters and he shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

Rahul Verma and Meena Sharma were filling out the form. When they heard the question, Rahul Verma smiled.

Because this question was very difficult!

It was harder than the question he had just answered.

Even if he were to go up and answer, he could only guarantee that he would be able to answer a portion of the questions correctly. He couldn't guarantee that he would be able to answer all of it correctly.

Most of the people who came to sign up frowned when they heard this question. "Do you have to answer such a difficult question when signing up?"

After hearing the whispers around her, Meena Sharma was full of smiles. It was as if she was watching a show as she looked at Rajesh Kumar.

She was waiting to see Rajesh Kumar make a fool of himself.

Although she didn't care much about the outcome, Priya Patel was also watching Rajesh Kumar nervously.

It was mainly because what Meena Sharma said earlier was too hurtful. If Rajesh Kumar couldn't answer the question, he would be mocked and ridiculed later.

This was something she didn't want to see.

At this time, Rajesh Kumar spoke slowly. His logic was sound and his speech was clear.

"There are four differences. Firstly, the expression of the loop structure is different... Secondly, the way the execution is judged is different... Thirdly, the number of executions is different... Fourthly, the order of execution of the end loop is different..."

Hearing Rajesh Kumar's reply, the smile on Priya Patel's face brightened. "Ever since I've known him, Rajesh Kumar has never lied to me. He has never broken his promise to me. This time... it's the same. He knows how to program!"

When Rahul Verma heard Rajesh Kumar's answer, his jaw dropped, and his face was stunned.

Rajesh Kumar's answer was the model answer. If he were asked the same question, he could only state two differences.

"How is that possible? Meena, didn't you say that Rajesh Kumar doesn't know how to program?"

Meena Sharma's mouth was slightly agape. Her face was filled with shock, and her eyes were filled with disbelief. Looking at Rajesh Kumar, who spoke confidently, she thought she was seeing things. "I don't know."

"In the past, he would tell me everything."

"But he never told me about programming."

"Maybe it's something he just learned?" Meena Sharma found a reason that even she didn't believe.

Rahul Verma's eyes lit up when he heard what she said. He picked up a book titled C-language: from Novice to Proficient and flipped to the chapter on loop structure.

"That's right, that's exactly the case!" Looking at the book's description of the difference between the While loop and the Do-while loop, he suddenly became excited because Rajesh Kumar's answer was exactly how it was written in the book.

"What do you mean?" Meena Sharma asked in confusion.

"Rajesh Kumar was lucky, he just happened to have memorized this part." The emphasis of C language is on understanding and application. An expert who was truly proficient in the C language would answer any question in his own words.

Rahul Verma had learned C language for three years and could answer most of the questions. However, he couldn't answer the question the way Rajesh Kumar did, which was to quote the textbook word for word.

Thus, Rahul Verma concluded that Rajesh Kumar was a beginner!

"So that's how it is." Meena Sharma instantly felt relieved and relaxed her tense face.

"He's lucky now to manage to sign up, but the test in the afternoon is comprehensive. He can't pass." Rahul Verma had also recovered his sunny self. When he spoke, the corners of his mouth curled up slightly, beaming with confidence.

Rajesh Kumar was able to memorize a portion of the book titled C-language: from Novice to Proficient, which was about 600-plus pages thick, but could he possibly memorize the entire book?

That was impossible!

"Who is this person? He's quite amazing!" After the students who came to register heard Rajesh Kumar's answer, many people looked up to him.

"It's Rajesh Kumar from Grade 12 Class 5. Last time, he was in last place in the Year 3 mock exam! His results weren't good, but I didn't expect his programming to be so good." Arjun Gupta also stood in the crowd to watch the commotion. When he heard someone say that Rajesh Kumar was amazing, he felt especially uncomfortable in his heart and then said with a face full of disdain.

Instantly, the people around started looking at Rajesh Kumar differently, they calmed down, and some even looked at him with disdain.

In senior high school, a winner was someone whose grades were good. If one's grades weren't good, he would be a nobody.

Even if one was good at programming, as long as one didn't win an award, no one would give care.

"You're not bad, kid! You're very organized and your answers are very comprehensive." Virtuoso's eyes were filled with surprise. "If only you had such talent in studying... Forget it, go fill out the form and sign up. Remember to come for the exam in the afternoon."

"Alright, Sir."

"Rajesh Kumar, your programming skills are amazing! When did you learn it? Why didn't I know about it?" When filling out the form, Priya Patel asked the question, with her face full of admiration.

Rahul Verma and Meena Sharma were about to leave, but when they heard Priya Patel's question, they couldn't help but stop and prick up their ears to listen.

"I learned it recently." Rajesh Kumar thought about it and gave a true, albeit rather vague, reply.

"As expected, our guess was right! He learned it at the last minute." After Rahul Verma heard Rajesh Kumar's answer, he was even more certain of his guess.

"He crammed at the last minute."

"Rajesh Kumar will be eliminated after the test!" Rahul Verma's mood became more and more relaxed.

"I'll see if he still has the cheek to talk to me after he gets eliminated." Meena Sharma seemed to have thought of something interesting and smiled.
