Capítulo 266: vs Swampert

Double battles is indeed something he rarely engages in, but when it comes to multitasking, Terrance, who has lived two lives, might not claim to excel at doing two things at once, but it was definitely his strong suit.

"Swammm~perttt~!"

As Swampert roared to display its might, Mismagius continued to float silently in the air, while Altaria flapped its wings, unfazed.

It was clear that Swampert's imposing presence hadn't managed to intimidate or even affect Altaria and Mismagius.

This roar could only serve to increase Swampert's own fighting spirit.

"He's taking this seriously," Hogan was startled. Terrance's expression was deeply focused, as if he had invested his entire being into this battle, his gaze extremely serious. This made Hogan also put away his contempt, no longer seeing him as just a rookie Trainer.

"Altaria, Dragon Dance!"

The battle began, and Terrance took the initiative, immediately ordering Altaria. Instantly, Altaria flapped its wings, fully immersed in the battle. Knowing that the opponent was no ordinary foe, Altaria greatly accelerated the speed of its Dragon Dance. Under the mysterious dance, it kept jumping and moving, but in the next moment, a barrage of yellow water arrows came flying, so fast they dazzled the eyes.

Just as Altaria began its Dragon Dance, Swampert's eyes glowed red. It gathered yellow energy in one hand, forming a clump of muddy sludge. Then, gripping it tightly with the other hand, Swampert skillfully launched the sludge high into the air. The sludge exploded instantaneously, turning into a barrage of high-speed sludge arrows, shooting towards Altaria in the sky.

The scene obscured Altaria's vision, and even with Dragon Dance, it couldn't evade the attack. If this continued, Altaria would only end up being hit by the sludge. The damage would be minor, but if its feathers were disturbed, it would face trouble, whether in flying or while continuing its Dragon Dance.

Whoosh!

Countless Shadow Balls shot toward the incoming sludge projectiles, and at the same time, Altaria abandoned its Dragon Dance, spitting out a Dragon Breath in an attempt to sweep away the incoming sludge. Just as Mismagius and Altaria intercepted the sludge, Swampert took a giant step forward and slammed its hand onto the ground, creating a large crater. It then lifted two large rocks and hurled them, using the rocks to block Altaria and Mismagius, scattering them apart.

"Hammer Arm!"

In the next moment, Swampert moved with surprising agility toward Mismagius, raising its massive arm and smashing it down.

In that moment, countless thoughts flashed through Terrance's mind. This clash was full of rapid changes. First, Terrance noticed the peculiar gleam in Swampert's eyes and was immediately alarmed, realizing why it had used a Fighting-type move. But then, Mismagius' red gem flickered, letting out a cry. Swampert and Hogan quickly reacted, only to see that Mismagius had already appeared in another location.

The incantation had worked...

"Not Double Team? Was that an illusion? Swampert clearly hit it, yet the Foresight couldn't see through it?"

Terrance broke out in a cold sweat. With Mismagius's defense, if that Hammer Arm had hit, it would have been game over. Thankfully, Mismagius had used double illusions. First, Psywave disrupted Swampert's judgment of Mismagius's location, and then the incantation created a second illusion. Otherwise, the illusion wouldn't have stood a chance against Foresight.

Bang!

At this moment, countless beams of light fell from the sky. On closer inspection, they were actually fragments of rock. Given Swampert's uniqueness, Altaria's Draco Meteor had scattered the energy so densely that the rocks, which were originally larger chunks, now appeared as a dense network of thin lines.

Swampert once again plunged its hands into the ground, lifting a massive boulder and hoisting it over its head. It then hurled the boulder into the sky, blocking part of the Draco Meteor. With a loud crash, the boulder shattered into countless fragments that rained down along with the rest of the Draco Meteor, striking the arena and creating a large cloud of smoke. A gleam flashed in Terrance's eyes—Swampert had been hit. But when the smoke cleared, Swampert was still standing, its arms raised to shield itself, appearing to be largely unscathed.

Whoosh!

In the next moment, a strange beam of light and a deep, eerie curse descended simultaneously. As the cloud of dust settled, Swampert tried to quickly assess its surroundings, but was immediately blinded by a dazzling burst of light, causing it to cry out. However, its ears perked up instantly, catching its Trainer's intent. Quickly concentrating, it saw through the illusion, and the flash collapsed. Yet, darkness soon enveloped it, plunging it into pitch-black darkness once more. Feeling uneasy, Swampert hurriedly repeated its previous actions to escape the darkness.

Boom!

With a swift sweep of its arms, Swampert smashed the incoming Shadow Ball. Following Hogan's instructions, Swampert looked up to see that Altaria had resumed its Dragon Dance, reaching the final stage. Altaria seized the opportunity, using the time Mismagius had bought to successfully power up with Dragon Dance.

"Swammm~perttt~!"

Swampert let out a furious roar before calming down, remaining wary of Mismagius' illusion skill. The previous Flash and Darkness had disoriented it for a few seconds, even causing Hogan to be startled.

Swampert, use Mud Bomb!

Seeing that Altaria had successfully powered up, Hogan knew things were taking a bad turn. A powerful Mud Bomb was charged up and launched toward Altaria. But upon seeing this, Altaria, following Terrance's command, used a combination of Feather Dance and Cotton Guard. Though the Mud Bomb exploded in the sky, the cotton feathers around Altaria protected it from harm, preventing any contamination of its feathers. Altaria successfully escaped and continued to soar. At this moment, Mismagius also moved, casting a curse followed by another Confuse Ray.

"Close your eyes!" Hogan shouted.

It's useless.

'Even if it closes its eyes, it can't block its hearing. Mismagius' illusion skill is a guaranteed hit on Swampert. Moreover, closing its eyes would only create a dark environment for itself,' Terrance thought to himself.

He then instructed Altaria to continue powering up. The Draco Meteor had already tested Swampert's defense; even a Dragon Pulse wouldn't inflict much damage. As for Dragon Rush, if it went head-to-head with Swampert, Altaria's body wouldn't come out unscathed. With the advantage of a double battle, Terrance was naturally going to create more opportunities for Altaria to strengthen itself.

"Swammm~perttt~!"

This time, Swampert broke free from the illusion in less than two seconds. Altaria didn't have time to power up before being interrupted again by another Mud Bomb. It had no choice but to find a way to dodge. However, the speed at which Swampert followed up with its moves was astonishing. Perhaps this was the result of years of training. After launching the Mud Bomb, Swampert quickly unleashed a powerful Hydro Pump, sweeping it across the sky towards Altaria.

Seeing this, Terrance smiled and said, "Continue Dragon Dance."

"Then, Erase it!"

Capítulo 267: "Erase" reappears!

Altaria leaped in a mysterious dance, ignoring Swampert's follow-up attack.

A torrent of water swept across, chasing after Altaria's flying direction. Hogan's eyes flashed with confusion, unsure of Terrance's intention.

With the dancing speed of Dragon Dance, although the target was moving in Swampert's eyes, as Swampert exerted more force, the power and speed of the Hydro Pump increased, and it was only a matter of time before it caught up with Altaria.

"Chirp~~"

The Hydro Pump surged forward, but instead of dodging, Altaria let out a cry. Hogan's eyes widened as he witnessed an incredible scene.

Altaria continued its Dragon Dance with elegant poise, facing the powerful Hydro Pump. Even as it was about to hit, Altaria calmly carried on without a hint of panic.

But at the last moment, a cry rang out, and following a certain rhythm, the incoming Hydro Pump shattered into countless water droplets, splashing everywhere.

"What!"

Hogan was stunned. Swampert's Hydro Pump continued to follow Altaria, sweeping towards it relentlessly, but with each cry from Altaria, the Hydro Pump shattered from afar. As Swampert watched the water splashing in front of it, it was momentarily dazed before immediately hearing Hogan's command.

"Stop using Hydro Pump! Use Muddy Water!"

Hogan swallowed hard, unable to comprehend what had just happened in such a short time. He quickly changed his command, but even though Swampert could swiftly follow-up with moves, the failure of one move allowed Mismagius to buy some time and launch the next round of attacks.

Hearing the strange incantation, Swampert manipulated Muddy Water to attack Altaria, but it also had to be cautious of illusions. It was already quite wary and experienced with "flash" and "darkness," but this time, even after launching Muddy Water, Swampert couldn't catch up to Altaria's speed for a long time. It wasn't until its Trainer shouted that Swampert snapped out of it.

"A new illusion!"

Watching Swampert's attacks lag behind Altaria, always a beat too slow, as if it hadn't noticed anything, Hogan slapped his forehead. He had been so focused on guarding against "flash" and "darkness", but it seemed Swampert had now fallen victim to a new illusion skill.

Concentrating on guarding against 'flash' and 'darkness' while attacking Altaria led Swampert to inadvertently fall into a new Illusionary Space.

In this space, everything Swampert saw seemed to be slowed down, with everything appearing incredibly mysterious and almost indistinguishable from reality. As a result, Swampert's moves couldn't catch up with Altaria, who was still performing Dragon Dance.

Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom! Boom!

At this moment, Mismagius unleashed several Shadow Balls, bombarding Swampert in an attempt to hinder it. However, with Swampert's defense, the Shadow Balls struck its body without leaving significant injuries, instead it snapped it fully back to reality, redirecting its focus to Mismagius.

"This Mismagius is too troublesome—" Hogan frowned, feeling a bit stumped. Unless Swampert could shut off its vision and hearing, it would inevitably fall victim to Mismagius' illusion skills. This was the first time he had encountered such a method of obstruction.

A quick, decisive strike.

Hogan gave Swampert an order, and Swampert's eyes flashed red as it accelerated towards Mismagius, determined to knock out this troublesome opponent first.

"Keep it occupied as long as possible—"

Terrance spoke softly, and Mismagius, hearing this, tried to find a way to restrain Swampert's movements. However, whether it was through attacks or interference, nothing seemed to effectively restrain Swampert. Finally, Swampert seized an opportunity and slammed Mismagius to the ground, letting out a powerful roar to release its pent-up frustration.

"Come back, Mismagius, you did well," Terrance said expressionlessly as he looked at the arena.

"Now it's 1 vs 1," Hogan noted, glancing at Altaria, who had completed its Dragon Dance.

"Yes, let's continue," Terrance responded.

...

Later that afternoon.

Shiro came looking for Hogan. After a day of studying, he had also come up with several strategies to counter the Castelia Club.

"Instructor Hogan," Shiro greeted, indicating that he was ready.

Hogan nodded, taking a deep breath. Having learned from his previous mistake with Terrance, he didn't rush to test Shiro. Instead, like Terrance, he allowed Shiro to send out his Pokémon.

Shiro's team of six Pokémon included Pokémon from the Unova region, Kalos region, and some from Hoenn. But they all appeared to be raised well, suggesting that Shiro had assembled a team of his strongest available Pokémon.

"I prepared 12 Pokémon to face the Castelia Club, and these are just six of them," Shiro explained.

"Alright, let me get to know your Pokémon a bit. The battle mode will be a double battle. Let's begin."

...

After completing Hogan's test, Terrance decided to focus on sniping the winning streak in the High-level Area while waiting for the other Trainers to catch up.

"2x coins..." Terrance licked his dry lips and applied for a battle that very day.

Due to his status in the High-level Area, Terrance was naturally assigned to a high-level arena for his battle.

"In 30 minutes," he noted after checking the time. The Pokémon he currently had ready for battle were Growlithe, Beautifly, and Castform.

With these three Pokémon, the battle would be challenging, but in a simple 3 vs 3, Terrance still had confidence in his chances.

Growlithe didn't need to conserve stamina—it could go all out from the start.

Castform's moves are very powerful under Rainy Day, but it can't perform at its best in the Battle Tower's arena. Outdoor arenas were better suited to Castform's abilities. However, Castform's weakness was its low defense, even more fragile than Mismagius, which meant its battles were always limited by this vulnerability.

High-level Area.

Here, the Trainers were of higher caliber, with overall stronger strength. Only a handful of them could achieve one round of consecutive wins in this area.

The competition in the High-level Area was fierce, and the winning streak system faced many restrictions here. Especially when facing another Trainer from the High-level Area who was targeting their winning streak, a Trainer with only three Pokémon has nowhere to turn for consolation.

In response to this phenomenon, Scott had recently been considering ways to reform the Battle Tower's rules and structure.

The floor of the High-level Area Terrance was heading to was in the uppermost levels of the Battle Tower. Unlike the Beginner Area near the bottom, the High-level Area was larger, with more spectators and more intense battles.

Additionally, the High-level Area differed from the Beginner Area in that each floor was an individual arena.

In the past few days, Terrance has been mingling in the High-level Area, and countless Trainers would love nothing more than to skin him alive. After several battles, Terrance has ruined the winning streaks of many Trainers, making them grind their teeth in frustration. Some Trainers even remembered Terrance, planning to target him during his own winning streak, but to their dismay, Terrance had yet to show any signs of starting his own challenge.
