As I contemplated the events that had transpired and gave careful consideration to my conclusions, the cogs in my mental clock began to work in a manner not dissimilar to that of the gears in a clock or other type of machine.
I recalled how taken aback he had been when I made it clear that I knew he was the reason for my unexpected action – one I fully knew was out of my control. The way in which he was standing and looking at me gave me the impression he was well-prepared for the following action that I would take.
I'll never forget the peculiar look on his face; it's burned into my memory. It was laced with something that could be understood as a form of fear or something I couldn't decipher.
I couldn't bring myself to accept the idea that Alpha Cedric was aware of the consequences of his actions and could predict how I would respond to them. "No, no, no," I insisted to myself mentally, refusing to believe he had to have seen this coming.
