The question "She loved you?" 

"Yes. And it was unrequited, as is often the case in life. 

Sara's scarlet lips curled into a pout as her eyes became a little darker. That comes out as really flippant. 

"Believe me, I'm not being sarcastic about Cecily. She is now well. successfully wed in California. She was, nevertheless, treated by a doctor for a while. She was a nice buddy, but her choice to leave everything here indicated me she wasn't really stable, so I said before she could continue. Actually, she left the city for a number of reasons, and I was only the most recent one. Simply put, I didn't love her the way she did. 

Sara seemed to be thinking as she gazed up at the ceiling. It was better that you told her the truth. 

Naturally, I assured her. "Ultimately, it didn't matter whether or not I loved her because of her mental condition. She was disturbed still, but it doesn't make for very compelling newspaper copy, does it?
