The news of Heaven's condition shook each one of them in a pool of confusion, fear, and distraught. They expected unnecessary changes in their plan and were aware things could go south with a snap of a finger. However, Heaven's situation was the least everyone expected. For sure, Heaven, herself, didn't expect to find herself in such a dire situation.

But now that her operation was a success — regardless of the doctor's advice — they were able to delude themselves she was just recovering in the intensive care unit.
