Capítulo 11: Nonsense

When Dominic reached home, a beeline of servants came out to welcome him in the front foyer. Leading the line was the head maid, Mrs. Deng, with a smile on her face.

"Welcome home, Master," Mrs. Deng said in a soft and gentle voice. She then straightened her back after bowing.

The master of the house had a cold expression on his face. He gazed down at her with no trace of emotion in his eyes. "Mary Rose, follow me and report what Heaven has been doing for the past months," he said as he resumed his strides.

"Ah. Yes." Mrs. Deng nervously cleared her throat, following the master inside the mansion. "Master, the young Madam had always been in her room. She would only go out when necessary…"

Dominic listened to the usual reports he was given in the past. Everything was pretty much the same. There was nothing unusual about Heaven's actions for the past few days as well. Mrs. Deng had pretty much finished her report when they reached his office in the mansion.

"That's all?" He asked in a skeptical voice. He arched a brow, stopping from his steps, and glancing over his shoulder to where the head maid was following him the entire time.

"Yes, Master…" Mrs. Deng trailed off with a slight frown on her face as if something struck her. Her sudden pause caught his attention, making him look back at her.

"Now that I think about it, Madam did something unusual yesterday."

"Unusual?"

"Yes. She toured the mansion," she snapped her eyes back at Dominic with genuine confusion written on her face. "The young Madam usually stays in her room, but yesterday, she spent most of her time touring the house and in the theater room."

Dominic was silent, recalling coming home last night, only to be told Heaven was in the theater room. That was unusual and totally not something Heaven would do. Normally, he wouldn't look for her, but every time he would, there was only one place where he could find her, her room.

"I see. So she toured the house and stayed in the theater room." He nodded, trying to understand her actions, but still utterly confused about Heaven's reason. "Anyway, tell the chefs to cook nutritional food for her."

Dominic began to tell Mrs. Deng what the doctor had said. He wanted the head maid to know the doctor's advice for his wife's recovery. Mrs. Deng listened attentively. After giving out his order, Mrs. Deng gave a respected bow and executed the task given to her.

'Now that I think about it, I don't think I've ever seen her walk around the house since coming here,' Dominic thought, he turned and opened the door to his home office to finish a few paperwork until the servants were done preparing Heaven's food and clothes that would be taken to the hospital.

In the end though, Dominic was not able to do any office work like he originally planned. Some papers needed his immediate attention, but he ended up rereading the divorce papers.

"Although I'll get custody, she has visitation rights," he whispered to himself, rereading the clauses of the divorce agreement. His eyes landed on how much Heaven would be getting once everything was final, and asked himself, "Is fifty million too little as compensation?"

Money was never an issue for him. He worked hard for all he had right now, but the mere thought made his face turn sour.

'Once she signed the divorce paper, I think it will be better if she can leave the house even if it's still being processed.' Dominic jotted down in addition to these conditions, thinking about her well-being so she could avoid stress.

Heaven was never happy all those years she lived with him. If anything, it only made her utterly miserable. The only way he could compensate her was by giving her enough money to start over her life and not having any form of contact with her. If she wanted to see their child, she was free to do so.

He read the document once more. His condition wasn't as harsh as he thought they were. After all, he wasn't completely cutting her off from their lives. He was simply ending their marriage, but she could still do her motherly duties if she wanted to. Although he doubted she would, though.

Dominic was immersed in adjusting the conditions of the divorce paper. He wanted to make sure that most of it favored Heaven. The sudden knock at the door halted his thoughts.

Dominic stopped what he was doing and glanced at the door. "Come in," he commanded.

The door to his office slowly opened, and one of the maids stepped inside. She bowed and waited for him to raise his head.

"Miriam?" He glanced at her and gave her one of those scrutinizing looks that could make people feel nervous. He heard the door closed before he asked, "Is everything ready?"

"The chefs are already packing the foods you asked for, Master."

"I see. I'll be there in a while." Dominic nodded and went back to reading and adjusting the document he was writing. He didn't dwell too much on what the maid had said. However, when a minute passed and the sound of an opening door did not reach his ears, he raised his eyebrows. Miriam was still standing in the middle of his office.

He leaned back and steeped his fingers together and asked, "What is it, Miriam?"

Hesitation swirled in Miriam's eyes before she found the courage to speak in a soft voice, "Master, about the young Madam's condition…"

"The young Madam is alright. She only needed rest and she will be fine," he said in a leveled voice.

"Master, I think the young madam strained herself yesterday —" she stopped, hesitation evident in her voice.

"Mhm. Mary Rose told me that she toured the house yesterday," Dominic said, distraction colored his voice, while he shifted his attention to his notes, assuming Miriam would just repeat Mrs. Deng's reports. He was aware of Heaven and Miriam's rapport. "Although it's almost ridiculous how she could strain herself just by touring the house, she's been locking herself in her room. Her lack of regular exercise probably exhausted her."

"But Master, that's not the only thing the Madam did yesterday!"

He stopped reading his notes and looked at Miriam with his brows knitted. He looked back at her, confusion in his voice. "What do you mean?"

"The young madam stayed in the kitchen for hours, cooking."

"She cooked?" His brows rose, even more confused now.

"Yes, Master. Everyone tried to stop her, worried she might hurt herself. However, Madam refused."

Dominic was not sure if his wife knew how to cook. This was news to him, but he still tried to come up with a rational reason behind his wife's strange action. "She's probably fed up with the chef's dishes," he shrugged it off, assuming Heaven cooked for herself.

"But Master," Miriam frowned. "The Madam cooked for you and the young master."

Dominic straightened his back before leaning back against the swivel chair. Miriam's words caught his attention enough for him to stop whatever he was doing.

"She cooked for us?" He asked dubiously. His ears must be deceiving him. His wife, Heaven, cooked for them?

"Yes. She made a few dishes and even waited for you and the young master to come home. She was in the family room for hours and even toured the house to kill time." Miriam's voice became a bit louder. Getting Dominic's attention gave Miriam the courage to detail Heaven's strange attitude the day before. "When you didn't come home, she told me she would stay in the theater room. She also told me to wake her up once you come home so she could serve the dishes personally."

'Nonsense,' was the first thing that crossed his mind. However, the more he assessed Miriam's expression, there was no doubt that Miriam was telling him the truth.

But why?
