Yes, the latter could not get near him because of the Silver Death, but from his Was Staff came a barrage of Arcane filled with Death Law that Z could not let himself get hit by. 

In addition, Z was not able to completely negate Zael's ability to use Rune Arts. He could still haste himself and use the Runes to increase his supply of Arcane. Although he could not attack Z with this, it was still a great boost. 

'In terms of Authority, he unlocked more of it than me. I can only suppress him due to my Celestial being focused on Authority,' Z thought as he tried his best to dodge the attacks. 

"Come on! Fight me!" Zael cried as he used his Authority.
