Grace’s POV
“Thanks, sweety,” I quickly changed the subject, making a mental note to watch what I was thinking while I had Pax on the line. “You-You can go back to your fun now.”
I felt her presence leave my mind and I let out a sigh of relief before I turned back to Paulina.
“Thanks for the meal; it was delicious,” I told her, putting the glass back on the silver tray. “You’re officially my favorite wolf by far.”
Jack huffed indignantly and gave me a “what am I? Chopped liver?”-look, making me laugh.
“You’re welcome, Alpha,” Paulina smiled back at me and returned to the house. I was about to say that she didn’t have to call me that, but Jack stopped me.
“You’re not human,” he reminded me in a low voice. “They want to call you alpha out of respect for you.”
I felt split on this one. I felt as though the title kept me separated from the rest of the wolves, but I also trusted Jack’s knowledge about this stuff. A leader had to be one of the people AND above them at the same time.
