Capítulo 152: Bad Premonition

While Temari's intention to express gratitude was kind on her part, the truth was that I didn't have time for it due to the recovery of her damaged village. So, after arriving in Sunagakure, we all returned to ours.

Reconstruction, paperwork, allocating a lot of money along with labor, and the whole package awaited the Kazekage.

In fact, I think she secretly wanted to take a break from all that work, much like Tsunade would if she had become the Hokage.

It was fortunate for her that, thanks to her partial possession of the Land of Water, she could solve everything over time and transport some things by sea.

In any case, I left her some notes about Akatsuki so that they wouldn't have this kind of intrusion again and reminded her to put protection on Gaara.

Although apparently, what I did wasn't entirely necessary.

Shortly after returning to the village, a scorpion appeared in front of me in a puff of smoke and handed me an intelligence scroll with its pincers before disappearing. It seemed like a good way to contact people who don't have access to our den den mushi; they used something similar in the series often, and the Scorpion Clan has a lot of bored members.

—Let's see… —I unrolled the scroll and began to read— Mmm, Kakuzu says that their leader has ordered them to gather information from my village at all costs. It seems that the disappearance of the Gedo Mazo, which played a central role in their nuclear deterrent plan, has driven him crazy.

It's great that Kakuzu is so obsessive about money; I just have to give him a few million ryo to filter any information that interests me or affects me. If money isn't enough, add an extra heart, and he'll be happy.

Poor Konan, she must be enduring the "wrath of God" right now.

I should have slapped Nagato before he fell so deep and brought him back to reality. I always wondered how it would have been if his growth were in an environment that supported all his potential, instead of growing up in a place like this.

Should I pay a visit to Amegakure in the end?

I was considering it lazily, but a casual note from Kakuzu at the bottom of the scroll, reflecting Pain's conversation word for word, caught my attention.

...

—It seems that, driven by his desperation, he dares to cross any line... —I incinerated the scroll in my hands with a squeeze as I felt my blood boil with anger— There is no room for consideration anymore; I'll have to kill this so-called God!

Third Person POV

Three hours after Kakuzu sent the information, the village of Amegakure felt that the clouds in the sky were darker and more charged than usual. A bad feeling hung in the atmosphere, and many people instinctively decided that it was best to stay home today.

—Nagato, I think something is wrong; I feel uneasy.

In one of the tallest towers of Amegakure, Konan materialized in her paper angel form and spoke to Yahiko's body. The last time she felt like this was during the ambush where they lost their friend, but then she attributed it to nerves.

She never hid her instincts since that day.

—Nagato... do we really have to go to these extremes? —Konan tried to talk even though she received no response, with a tone that revealed a subtle mix of anxiety and unease— Even if we've hit a snag in the plan, it should only be temporary until we inevitably recover the statue. Targeting the children of the Seimeikage for this is...

She was willing to do many things to achieve her goal; she would give her life for it if doing so achieved her goal of world peace without hesitation!

But involving newborns...

She felt stomach acid fighting its way up her trachea and had to struggle not to vomit at those thoughts. Children were always out of her battles as much as possible; she made sure of that!

She already felt uncomfortable when she learned the age of the Seven-Tails' jinchuriki; she had to do a lot of self-hypnosis to convince herself that she was almost an adult, so it was the limit and only once.

Even when she failed to convince Nagato to alter the attack plan on Konoha for the Nine-Tails, she refused to join the attack under the pretext of protecting him to avoid having to harm a single child.

She just couldn't.

—We'll only take them as hostages, Konan; we won't harm a single hair on their heads... —Nagato replied through Yahiko.

Konan felt a little better, but the next part made her feel an ugly hole in her stomach.

—... as long as Enel fulfills all our demands. If not, then...

Konan couldn't hear more and left silently by dispersing, unable to maintain her usual stoic expression. She didn't want to look Yahiko in the face while Nagato's words came through his lips; she wouldn't be able to bear it.

Pain didn't turn around when he felt Konan's disappearance, understanding her reluctance a bit.

But under God's command, a handful of children for world peace?

His hands already had a lot of blood; a few more drops didn't make a difference.

He was more interested in what was happening in the skies above his head; he could feel an artificial influx in the clouds, they shouldn't be so charged with electricity.

He knew it, as God, his technique to use rain as a detector had given him enough perception of how rain clouds should behave.

Why had it stopped raining against his intentions?

Should Konan's premonition make him reconsider things perhaps?

Maybe...

Pain's thoughts were interrupted when lightning struck Amegakure, and its flash illuminated the village for an instant. When Pain opened his eyes after the glare, a tall figure shirtless and with a stern look had appeared without him noticing.

Quite strange, as his killing intent permeated everywhere, with no intention of hiding it in the least. Unconsciously, he activated his ability to gain maneuvering room.

—Shinra Tensei!

Meanwhile, in a more secluded part of Amegakure...

Konan was crouched in a hidden corner while wiping off the vomit remnants from her chin with the back of her hand, trying to master her emotions as she had been forced to do many times while following Nagato's descent into madness.

Three shadows grew against the wall in front of her, and startled, she turned on guard and ready to take action as she was about to disperse, but paled when she recognized the identities of the other party. Not only thanks to the distinctive headband of a bitten apple but also because of the unique armor that only a specific ninja village uses on its members.

—Did we hear that you have some problem with our babies?

The fact that those words were accompanied by the sound of cracking knuckles made his skin crawl as he realized the situation.
