Chuck looked hard at Paige, his eyes just a bit narrow. Under his cool stare, there was a quiet anger. Just because he didn't get back at her, didn't mean he didn't despise her. He would always remember the fire that nearly killed him, the terrible pain of being burned.
But he kept his feelings under control, stayed cool, and said to Alicia like it was no big deal, "Let's go."
Alicia seemed unsure, ready to follow him.
Louis shouted after her, "Alicia."
His voice wasn't loud, but it was firm, almost like an order. Alicia got it: he didn't want her to leave. She looked at Chuck and said, "You go ahead."
Chuck shot Louis a look that said: Don't make things tough for Alicia. With his briefcase in hand, he left.
Paige watched the three of them, noticing the unspoken tension. Even though they didn't say much, she had a gut feeling their relationship was pretty messy.
Paige gave a smile and asked Alicia, "Want to check out my office?"
