As Louis's car sped toward her, Madelyn's mind went blank. She couldn't help but scream.
Move! Move! her brain yelled, but her legs turned to jelly, as wobbly as overcooked noodles, unable to take a single step.
With a "thud!" she fell onto her backside, shaking with fear like a leaf in the wind.
Louis's car came closer and closer, and as she tried to escape, she couldn't. Fear took over, and she closed her eyes tight.
The sound of tires screeching on the pavement got louder and louder, but the terrible crash and pain she imagined never happened.
Instead, a sudden, sharp braking noise filled the air, one after another, each louder than the last!
Madelyn quickly opened her eyes and saw another car appear out of nowhere, stopping Louis' vehicle just in time. She was safe, for now.
Feeling relieved, she realized her heart was racing, and her clothes were soaked in cold sweat.
