'Susan.I need to meet her, I need to warn her.'
"My lady... Where have you been?" Sylvia was relieved to find her.
"Where is Susan?" Eve enquired urgently.
"Miss Palwalker is with her father My lady." She explained.
"Lord! We were going berserk searching for you everywhere. You even didn't take your cellphone with you.Hurry up Madam we need to prepare you for this evening." Julie whined but she was genuinely concerned, Evelyn felt a strange relief even looking at her.
"Miss Betrice, honestly where have you been?" Evelyn froze, she didn't even need to look to know who it was, it was Manila Langton, looking perfect in her crimson dress, decked up for the evening. Fear crawled beneath her skin. But if she let it out, Eve would be suspected and then she would be in danger. For people like her and her father taking people's life was easier than swatting a fly. She forced a smile and replied, "I went to the garden to see the blooming peonies, and then lost my way. It was a casual walk so I asked the guards not to follow. I apologize if everyone got concerned because of me."
Manila spoke with a slightly annoyed expression, "Lady Faunoa was so much worried. You are a future Duchess you can't just wander around like a tomboy. Things are not the same for you now. And it could be dangerous, especially for you. Many would want to take the place you have Evelyn."
Clenching her fist to the point of digging her soft flesh to calm her trembling hands, Eve spoke raising an eye brow, "I understand your concern Manila,as my Lady-in- waiting you always think about me before anyone else. " She deliberately uttered her name to take upper hand.Just like she had called her name. "Let's see each other at the evening rituals.
But no one can take the place I have, because I rule his heart. The devil never gives his heart to anyone else except his mate.
Eve clicked her heels on her way back to her room and closed it with a bang. Leaning against the door Eve dropped on the floor and started weeping. "Daddy where are you?" Why did you just abandon like that? I... I... am so scared right now." Her tears flowed, like a shaking leaf that clings to the branch of a tree, in the face of a storm Eve trembled, untill she emptied herself. She need to be stronger now when she is at it, she needs to face it strongly.
Cedric Palwalker had been waiting more than an hour, but his daughter was nowhere to be seen, he seemed to be impatient.
"Where's Susan?"
"Miss Palwalker will be here in a moment."
"I have been hearing that for last one hour. Did you actually inform her about my arrival there was no way she would be this late. What kind of palace rules restricts a father to enter her daughter's chamber."
Sebastian stood with a poker face ignoring his fuss. The day which he had been appointed as Susan's secretary, the CEO had given standing instruction that, he should not let the Palwalker family get anywhere near Susan and if it was unavoidable, he has to remain present no matter what.
SLAM
He banged on the table.
"Just how long..."
"Did I make you wait a lot father?" Susan said while entering the room, she was wearing a sequin copper colour short dress with matching shoes.
Cedric Palwalker's mouth opened wide. Was it really his daughter? Her attire was way above her knee, to te height of obscenity her deep neck dress displayed her cleavage, her hair was open, these were all against the aristocratic tradition. Her ivory skin was perfect now, with no scar or blemishes, his hand itched out of old habit to discipline her for dressing up in such vulgarity. That wasn't possible anymore, moreover he needed her, so he would have to let all this slide, and show her his fatherly love.
"Susan my daughter..." He approached to hug her, but she took her seat instead. Cutting him off she said, "Long time father. So what made you visit me today?"
Cedric Palwalker flinched at her sudden rudeness, it was so unexpected as if he was meeting someone else, not his daughter.
"It's so good to see you my darling."
Susan pulled a wry smile on her lips, "I apologize I can't say the same. If you don't mind I am on a tight schedule for the next two days, so if you could get straight to the point."
Taken back by her words, he opened his mouth momentarily but words ditched him. He darted a gaze at Sebastian who was standing like a rock, Cedric's face turned red out of humiliation. But gulping in the insult he forced a smile.
"Susan don't be like that, what kind of daughter says that to her father, the night before her wedding. Of course I would visit you, we should have a father daughter time." He signalled at her to ask Sebastian to leave.
"The Head of Magnolia has ordered him to stick to me 24X7, there's no way he would leave, even if I ask him to. And didn't my lawyer visit you father? I have deregistered myself from the family register, so didn't need to attend my wedding at all. We are not a family anymore."
"Are you Serious?" He snapped losing his temper, "How could you be so imbecile, we raised you Susan. You became Nathenel Magnolia's fiancee because of us.How can you abandon us now?"
"Imbecile? Just a few days back you said I was a failure and you all are ashamed of me. Now you think I abandoned you? Did you even come to even find me once when all so sudden I shifted to Magnolia estate?"
Cedric's throat dried, was this really the naive, gentle Susan who would under his feet all the time?
"Oh my daughter is angey with her dad? Is it, come on we always knew Nathenel can never ignore our daughter. But let the past be honey. Dad is sorry. So is mom. But honey do you know the Magnolia Corporation jas stopped all businesses with us all so sudden. Our wearhouses are going empty, we aren't able to supply anything in the market. Mr. Magnolia is refusing all meetings with us. How can he do that even when such a big project has failed?"
This was news to Susan, it's true that the Palwalker family has been a loyal dividend for the Magnolia House. Right now the corporation needs support of finance with all investors backing out, although she has heard with recent closeness with Anastasio as planned things were in good towards a fair weather. But still losing the Palwalker might be a loss for Nathenel. Was it because of her? She remembered he had asked, if she wanted to crush the house, and she had said yes. But he couldn't be serious it was big business.
"Susan I heard you are in good terms with CEO Faunoa's fiancee. You are doing well. Rumour has it Nathenel is obsessed with you. Please help us."
"Now you are talking." Susan laughed, "I was so surprised when you said you were here for the wedding. It's a relief you aren't here for that."
She took a sip of tea leisurely.
"I am doing this for your brothers. Shouldn't you support them while you are doing so well?"
Susan was pleased to find him helpless. She wonder if she was just too immoral, but she didn't care anymore.
"Brothers? I don't remember having any siblings. Because they never cared if I lived or died."
"Susan" He snarled at her
"Mr.Palwalker." She retorted, "Didn't you just always brag about having competent sons? What happened to them all of a sudden? Just when that wretched daughter of yours deregistered herself, all those talent vanished?"
"You are crossing your limits. Do you think Mr.Magnolia will keep you? You are nothing without a family name."
Susan stood up, there was no point in arguing with him.
"Exactly. So why are you here to meet a girl without a family? And I know Nathenel better than you, and unlike you I don't plan to leech him off. Thanks for a different father daughter time, unlike the ones in your study which would be blood drenching. Sebastian, ask the guards to escort him."
"You thankless bitch. You would never be happy. And...and... Who will walk you down the aisle if not me?"
Susan looked at Sebastian who couldn't mask his pitiful eyes although he tried hard to cover his expression.
She turned on her heels.
"I was never happy to begin with perhaps that's not in my fate, but atleast now I am living. At your so called mansion I barely survived. As far as walking down the aisle is concerned, I would have rather Walked alone than walking with you." A pair of body guards appeared immediately. Susan left venting out everything, she felt empty but at the same time lonely.
