For safety reasons, my rooms had no view over the main Courtyard of the castle, but I knew what I would see if I were standing on the balcony that overlooked it.

The wide, oval courtyard already full of bodies, commoners who'd been waiting for the gates to open at dawn and would now make a day of waiting so that they could tell their children and grandchildren of the day they attended the Royal Wedding. They would already fill every corner of available space not taken up by the stage now built over the castle steps, and the roped-off areas, covered for shade at both sides and before the stage, for the Court members and Witnesses who would not arrive until soon before I did.
