Capítulo 11: 11. Reunion.

"What is wrong?"  Rissa asked as she watched Lola walk into her office. "Did you see a zombie or something?" She held a smile.

"Girl" She still held her annoyed face, it wasn't like it was scared. It looked pissed or something. "I hate cancer" She blurted as she walked over to her desk.

Rissa rested her back. "We all do" She simply said.

"No-like what sort of ailment was cancer? It doesn't have a way to be contacted, someone just wakes up, boom! They have cancer, at least other sicknesses have a way to contact them and the worse thing about it, is that it doesn't even have a cure" She sat across her with folded and annoyed face.

Rissa smiled. "What happened?"

"It's a kid, girl! I was in the OR for two hours straight with specialized doctors, the kid had leukemia. I was so emotional in that OR because the poor girl didn't deserve that" Her eyes went red.

She sighed. "How is she now?" She only said.

"She's still unconscious though, I was really torn. Won't anyone develop a cure for the damn ailment?" She turned to her.

"Everyone seems to have given up to try to find a cure" She shrugged. "I don't think it will happen soon but I hope something happens" She said with a hopeful smile.

"I hope" She felt a little bit better.

  Just then Rissa's phone beeped, it was a text message from Luke, he had sent her a message, she clicked into it, it was a sweet message. The guy was so sweet and considerate or was it because they had just kicked off and it was too early. She smiled and flushed at the same time, she quickly sent him a heart and kiss emoji, she didn't know what to say back to it.

  "Who's that?" Lola tried to catch a glimpse at her phone. "Luke?" She stretched a bit.

  "No one" She shut the screen quickly with smiles.

  "Only that guy makes you smile like that" She felt really happy for her friend. "How does it feel being his girlfriend?" She asked.

Rissa thought about it and it was just normal and the usual things, just that this time she was his to own and so was he. "It's only been two days, Lola" She said off.

"I guess so" She smiled.

"What's up today? What are your plans?" Rissa asked.

She shrugged her shoulders. "Nothing much really, it looks like I will be heading home today because my sister just told me that she broke up with the guy " She said.

"Already?" She seemed surprised. "Has it been close to three months?" She asked again.

"You know it hasn't" She shook her head. "I understand her plight but it's becoming too wild and irresponsible" She sighed, she was tired of Laure just being childish.

"You should talk to her" Rissa suggested. "Laure isn't that stubborn headed compared to you" She noted.

"You think I haven't tried enough" She sat on the table. "I don't know what else to say to a thirty-three years old woman" She sighed.

"Have you spoken with your parents, so they could help you talk to her?" She asked again.

"Mom was around a month ago and she stayed with us for a week which you know, girl, it was all futile trying to speak to her, dad keeps calling but still nothing works. They tried" She explained.

"How about you try to speak to her calmly with more warmness because I know you, Lola" She smiled. "You must have been just a bit too hard on her" She knew how Lola might be just too harsh on Laure without considering her feelings.

She looked away. "I will try" Was the least she could say. "Buh I ain't gonna sugarcoat her with words." She stated bluntly.

"Perfect" She smiled again.

"How about you? What are your plans?" She asked looking expectant.

"Uhm--I have to head to my dad's for dinner. I haven't met those kids before " She informed with beaming smile. "I heard they took after dad's blue eyes too"She added.

"Incredible " She chirped. "Do take pictures of them, they must be adorable. What are their names?" She asked. When Rissa had told her about her and her dad's reconciliation, she had been very happy and excited for the family and finally things were beginning to work out for Rissa Oteo.

"Caleb and Calvin" She replied immediately.

"Sweet" She cheered this time. "What about Sonia? What is she like?" She asked again.

"I only met her once, so I can't say much but I heard she is not so bad " She only said.

"I'm happy for you sweetheart " She said warmly. "You totally deserve all the happiness that you are getting" She was truly happy for her, Lola was the type of friend any girl should have not female against each other.

"Thanks love" She flushed with happiness. It all felt really good and she really hoped it all lasted for as long as she was alive.

  Lola had just driven into her garage, she hopped down and through the walkway she went into the house, it was opened that meant Laure was home too, with a sigh, she walked into the house. Lola's house was just about the size of Rissa's with different frames hanging on the wall, ranging from their infant pictures till now. It looked stuffed with more irrelevant things than the relevant ones, talk about the massage chair Laure had bought and just carelessly put somewhere in the living room or the extra clothes lying carelessly on the floor or probably the camping bed on the sofa. It was all messed up because a depressed sister won't move on and stop inconveniencing others which was becoming unbearable already.

"Hi kiddo" A tall 6ft woman in jean bumps and a white singlet throwing an apple in the air walked down. "How was work?" She flashed a quick smile.

Lola sighed, she was about to go mad but she would try to listen to Rissa and just calmed down before she loosed it. "Good" She watched her sit on her massage chair. "The house is messed up" She started sighting a man's shirt on the kitchen counter, she was boiling.

"Oh" She looked around like she didn't know she did it all. "I came back from work really tired, I couldn't arrange things. I'll do it later or you could help me" She winked at her. Laure was a teacher, she taught some third graders. She had always loved kids and teaching them, so she went for teaching even though it might not be the most lucrative job in the world. It was what she loved which was an important profession in the society.

"You are tired?" She was about to loose it.

"Yeah" She yawned helplessly. "Handling kids is no joke especially those sprouting teenagers " She stretched lazily.

She had to be kidding right now, handling kids compared to handling some almost dead people, which was more tasking and draining. Moving from one place to the other and not knowing what to expect next, a broken bone, a fractured rib, a punctured body, a malnourished wound, a cancer surgery, which was stressing.

"Fine" The level at which she was trying to be calm needed to be probably studied. "Why did you break up with Greg?" She sat down.

"He's a dick head" She blurted. "He only wanted my money" She folded her arms.

Believe it or not, Laure had quite the bag, she was under the category of rich. She doesn't flaunt it but one would know because of the useless and unnecessary things she bought like the electronic fireplace she built in her room, dumb right? Secondly, she was really a giver. She gave to anyone that asked without even thinking. Laure got some good money from her dead boyfriend's parents, they loved her so much and she also owned a Fashion brand like a clothing line where she was doing so well selling different fits, her brand was called Dare To Be Different fit from Carson Collection. She was rich was the summary of it all.

"What did you actually expect? You barely knew him before you let him slip between your tits" She mumbled the tits part.

"I liked his personality" She shrugged off.

"Laure?" She called. "You can't keep living this way" She was really hurt by the way she lived.

She looked at her scornfully. "Are you about to advise me again?" She looked away.

"You are my older and only sister" Her voice broke. "I always look up to you everyday of my life, you have been a big inspiration to me, you always give me a reason to be a better woman for myself bu-but now" She sniffed. "I am helpless and I don't know what to look up to if you are this way, Fernandéz isn't coming back and I'm sure he is not pleased with this way of life you have chosen" She was continuously wiping her tears.

Laure was taken aback, this was the first time she saw Lola this emotional because of her. She went over to sit by her and hold her. "I can't seem to move on" She whispered. "It's difficult, I-I loved Fernandéz with my life" She was also tearing up.

"I know" She held her tightly too. " But I'm here to help you move by it. I know I've been too hard on you, I'm really sorry, I was very miserable whenever I saw you that way with those useless guys who don't deserve you one bit" She looked at her warmly.

"You were hard" She smiled. "But -to be honest, I didn't make it easy too" She wiped the tears off Lola's face. "I can't help myself " She admitted.

"It is truly difficult" She felt bad for her sister. "Let's visit Fernandéz's grave" She added.

Laure wasn't too sure of that. "Why?"

"You need to tell him how much you loved him and you have been holding on for too long and now want to move on, he's going to be really happy. Tell him you wish him a good life after death, let the healing stage start from there.." She looked at her sister with so much expectations.

"Fine" She smiled. "I'm not going to promise anything but I'll try even though it's going to be difficult" She said genuinely.

"It's alright, I'm here" She smiled. "Let's get this house into one piece, let's start from there" She said getting up with smiles.

"Okay-sure" She also got up.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Go get the door,honey!" Sonia called out to her husband over the kitchen. She seemed busy.
"Sure " Steve got up between the boys.
He went to the door and pulled it open, he smiled brightly as he saw who was there. "Come in" He widened and she stepped in.
"Hi dad" She smiled surveying her eyes around the cozy looking house.
"Hi sweetheart " He replied. "Hey Cals, come here!" He called at the kids.
The two boys who looked exactly like each other got up, just that one was black haired and the other was blonde, they stomped their energy filled feet hurriedly towards them.
"Say hi to your sister, Rissa" Steve said to them.
They beamed with smiles once they heard Rissa's name.
"Hi" The black haired one  said. "Dad do sayi ahot aboat you" He said trying to speak fluently so Rissa understand him which she did, Rissa thought he looked so cute. She squatted to their level and they gave her face hugs.
"He does?" She said back holding them around the waist.
"Yeap" The blonde said nodding vigorously. "He sayis ya our big fister" He looked at her with so much adoration.
"Definitely" She laughed. "Call me Rissa" She told to them. "What do I call you both?"
"Me" The blonde spoke again. "Caleb but Cal good" He answered.
"Calvin! Not Cal" The black haired one spoke and she laughed, they looked so cute and smart at just three.
"I call the both of them Cal" Steve chipped in.
"How do they know who you are calling when you say Cal then?" She looked at him.
"They both reply" He said laughing.
She could not help but laugh too, she got to her feet again and took the boys tiny fingers in hers and walked over to Sonia who seemed to be staring at them the whole time with so much admiration.
"Hi-uhm-" She wasn't sure what to call her. Mrs Oteo? Maybe.
"Sonia" She said almost immediately wiping her hands on the apron. "It's perfect that way" She smiled in assurance.
"Okay-then, Sonia" She nodded.
Sonia looked just like her mother in stature, just that she might be a bit more bigger in size and was taller, no doubt, she looked beautiful too and she could spot some features the boys possessed on her, but she could also see that the boys also had blue eyes just like hers, they were bright and they had the same face structure. They were really her brothers .
"You go sit, I'll finish up here and go wash up for dinner" She said taking a glance at the steaming pot.
"Okay" She smiled with a nod and went with the boys to the living room, she settled on a couch and placed them each on her legs.
"You both should not stress your big sister" Steve cautioned them since they couldn't stop touching her hair or her face to her clothes while they sat on her leg, they were filled with so much energy.
"She is big, daddy" Calvin clutched his hands around her. "I loff her" He whined.
"No, I loff her" Caleb also wrapped his hands around her.
"Buh I have sufficient love for the both of you" She held them tighter smiling and they seemed happy.
"Will you thake us out to see mickey mouse?" Caleb asked.
"Definitely" She replied smiling. "I'll always visit you from now on and take you out, I promise. We'll go round the city frequently" She hoped they understood her, they smiled hard which meant that they did.
She played with them before they finally fell asleep after eating their dinner, Sonia dished the meals while Steve took them to their room. She was happy to be here, she had never met kids with so much energy and vigor in her life but then again it was in the bloodline.
  "They are so high spirited" She said scooping a spoonful of the vegan soup Sonia had made.
"I know right" Steve said back. "They literally adore you" He added.
"We'll always love to have you here, Rissa" Sonia told her.
She now understood why her dad loved her, she was actually a sweet woman and very accomodating, it wasn't awkward around her.
"Of course" She told her. "By the way the food is really good" It was a good dish but it was not anywhere close to her mother's meal, well, no comparison since it tasted well.
"How is the life of a cardiologist?" She asked. "I've always wanted to be a doctor but a pediatrician" She asked gently but interested.
"So why didn't you?" She looked like someone who would be good with kids rather than buildings as a surveyor.
She shrugged. "I was scared of blood" She laughed and Rissa laughed too, her laughter was surprisingly contagious.
Steve was feeling really fulfilled seeing this, he could peacefully die now if it were to happen straight away.
"What?" Rissa couldn't stop laughing. "That's so sad".
"I know right but it's alright" She let the laughter wear off. "So tell me, a cardiologist, what is it like?" Giving her full attention.
"It's tedious but very spectacular. Being a doctor in general is crucial because not only is your patient's survival in your hands at that moment, so is the family. People believe it's in our hands if a patient live or not but it's a two-way thing, the patient too has to be willing to survive if not, it's like treating a dead but living body" She pointed out.
Sonia kept nodding, "That's true" She seemed to want to process the whole thing.
"Patient are attached to doctors that at times, if we loose one to the cold hands of death. It's psychologically draining to continue work for the day actively without reminiscing how we lost the patient but not everyone knows this " She was elevated that Sonia was so attentive unlike her mom.
"Shout out to y'all" She threw air kisses. "Doctors are the real MVPs " She said to her.
"Thanks" She felt appreciated, just then her phone snoozed, it was another text from Luke. They had spoken over the phone today, so why was he texting? Did he miss her that much?
Hy babe, the code for the combination lock is 4242, love you. What a sneaky boyfriend! She scoffed as she shut her phone, she had actually forgotten about the box, she kept it in her closet. She couldn't wait to get home and find out what was in the box all along, she became excited all of a sudden.
"Sorry about that" She flashed them a smile.
"It's alright" Steve winked at her, he knew who it was. "Finish up, so you head home. Rose would kill me if you came late" He said and they all laughed.
The rest of the night had gone well and Rissa was really glad she had come here and she promised to visit from time to time since she had fallen in love with those kids, she bade them goodbye and left.
"Are you happy?" Sonia asked wrapping her hands around her husband.
"Yes" He kissed her lips. "Are you?" He asked back.
"Definitely" She rested her head on his chest. "She's so sweet" She muttered.
"I know" He was pleased that she liked Rissa.
"You make good looking kids though" She teased looking at him.
He laughed. "I guess so".
