"Luz?...what's wrong, did something happen?" I ask only to be met with more sobbing. "Luz talk to me, please?" I continued before I started to slowly walk towards her, as I did I noticed something strange that made me stop in my tracks.
...A few feet away from me was darkness similar to the void in the form of what looked like some kind of tendril.
"L-Luz what is-" I said only to go silent as she suddenly faded into that same string of darkness before I felt something wrap around my leg. Before I could say anything, I felt my foot being tugged back making me lose my footing as I felt myself being dragged. "What the hell?!" I yelled out as I looked back to see the pitch-black tendril dragging me into the basement before it seemed to let go, sending me flying into the wall.
"Arghhh!" is all I let out as I hit the wall before I hit the ground. "Wh-*wheeze*-what was that?" I said as I tried to stand up before I heard something move in the room. "Ah, just a little something I prepared for you." I suddenly heard from further down into the basement causing me to quickly turn towards the source of the sound before I felt a jolt of agonizing pain from my chest.
"Try not to move, you may not feel it due to the adrenaline but one of your ribs are fractured along with your right arm being broken." The voice said as I heard what I could only assume were their footsteps approaching me. "Now this all might seem quite horrible but I don't intend to kill you... yet." The person that I could finally see was a man wearing what looked like a robe of some kind.
"W-who are you, what did you do with Luz?" I choked out as I let out a heaving breath. "Me? I'm nobody special, but you, you are quite extraordinary!" He said almost as if he was ecstatic about something though I didn't know what. "Oh and as for your other question, your little friend is fine, she's still at the hospital visiting her father." He said in a calm tone that made his previous excitement feel like it was fake.
'Good they're safe.' I thought as my shoulders relaxed a little until I saw a foot heading towards my face launching me back helplessly as I found myself on the ground sitting in front of him with my vision blurred. "Hey, who said you could let your guard down? Just because I said they're safe doesn't mean you are." He said as I tried to get up again only to feel a fist hit my jaw sending me back down to the ground.
"*cough**cough*, I thought you said you weren't going to kill me right now?" I said as the taste of iron filled my mouth. "And I'm not, this is just an introduction to what I have for yo-..." The man said before pausing and turning to look up the stairs. "Hm it looks like my time here is up, I hope we'll have more time the next time we meet... I guess we'll see?" The robed man said before I felt something being placed in my hands before walking up the stairs and shutting the door, leaving me in the darkness of the basement as I started to feel an odd tingling sensation before passing out.
POV Change Third person Camila...
"Hey Mija, it's ok we'll go visit next week when I have time to bring you, ok?" Camila said with a gentle smile glancing at Luz through her rearview mirror who was holding what seemed to be holding what looked to be a new Azura book. "I know Mama but Papa just looks like he isn't getting better at all even when we moved him to this new place," Luz said with a frown as she looked on sadly staring out the car window as she gripped her book tighter before spotting something out the window.
"Huh?" Luz said catching the attention of Camila who briefly turned to see what Luz was looking at. "What's that shadow?" Luz innocently asked as Camila shook herself out of her daze before focusing back on the relatively empty street. "Mija what are you talking about?" Camila said as she arrived at the house and pulled up the driveway.
"Mama, do you think Chris is back yet?" Luz asked as Camila got out of the car. "He better be or I'll drag him back myself!" Camila mumbled as she opened the door to Luz's side of the car. "What was that Mama?" Luz asked curiously as she looked up at Camila before Camila put on a smile. "Oh, nothing Mija, just thinking out loud," Camila said as Luz looked at her curiously. "About what?" Luz said as Camila put her down on the ground.
"It's nothing, how about we go and read that new Azura book you got?" Camila said in a kind voice as Luz nods before she took off toward the door, seemingly in a better mood than before as arrived at the front door. "Come on Mama, we're wasting time!" Liz yelled back as she turned to Camila waiting eagerly for her to open the door.
"Jeez Mija, you're always so passionate about these books, makes me curious what you see in them," Camila said as she fished the key to the house out of her purse. "But mom it's Azura, one of the coolest witches ever!" Luz jumped around in circles as Camila finally unlocked the door. "Ok ok, we can read it after I check to see if Chris is back, how does that sound?" Camila suggested as Luz nodded excitedly before running off to the living room eager to read with her mom.
"Ha hah, that girl has way too much energy for her own good," Camila commented letting out a sigh, feeling exhausted. 'Now let's see if that kid is back.' Camila thought to herself as she walked off toward his room.
"*knock**knock*, Chris honey are you down there?" Camila asked before waiting a few seconds only to be met with silence, deciding to open the door since no one answered only to be met with Chris laying on the ground near the stairs causing her expression to become more worried.
"Mijo, why are you laying there, did something happen?" She said as she walked down to get a better look, only to see… he was just fine(?), unconscious but fine. "Phew, he's ok, just asleep," Camila said as she let out a sigh of relief as she shook him awake. "Ngh…Aah!" Chris yelled out as he shot up before looking around frantically.
POV Change Chris…
'Oh, it's just Mama Camila.' I thought in relief as I felt my shoulders relax. 'It looks like that robed guy left, seems like he knew that they were close somehow but how? Also, why doesn't my chest or shoulder hurt weren't they injured… wait didn't he put something in my hand?' I thought giving one more look at myself and around the room before I felt a hand on my shoulder making me turn around to see Camila with a concerned expression. "Mijo what's wrong?" I heard Mama say as I realized how concerned she looked. 'Uhhh what should I say? I don't want to worry her.' I thought remembering how the man caught me with that tendril.
"Ah sorry Mama, seems like I tired myself out," I said with a smile, which seemed to lessen her worry but…. "Then what about that scream? Exhaustion doesn't make people scream." Camila said unconvinced.
"Maybe a nightmare? I honestly can't remember why I was screaming." I said as my expression shifted from a smile to a confused look as I acted like I was thinking hard about why. "*sigh*, fine if you want to say it's just a nightmare," Camila said as her concerned face became a smile.
"So I'm going to go read with Luz, do you want to join us?" Camila said from the top of the stairs as I looked up at her with a frown on my face, feeling guilty but knowing it may be better for now for them to not know about him. 'After all, he's interested in me not them.' I thought imagining what would happen if they met him. "Yeah, sure!" I said as I smiled. "Great then let's go," Camila said as she opened the door to the basement. "So Mama, about this summer!…" I said as I ran up after her.
