"Mom, I have to tell you something, but you'd better put down the knife and sit down," Philip announced in a serious tone.

His mother, who was just chopping onions, looked at him surprised.

"What are you so serious about? Don't say! You've finally decided what you want to do with your life!"

"Yes. I mean I decided a long time ago, but now it's time for me to tell you what I want to do and what I'm already doing with my life. But seriously, can you put down the knife?"

"You act like you're high on something," the greaser bit into a young carrot grown in their home garden.

"Shut up!" he growled. He didn't understand why younger sisters existed, but since she was already in the family, he had to tolerate her somehow. But the topic he wanted to bring up was too important for him to have some silly teenage girl interjecting him with even sillier comments.
