*****A/N: so just a note, for the newer readers, since I've noticed a common trend in the comments. this is going to be a long novel. As a result, it's going to be fairly slow to start, with the intro volume lasting 51 chapters. There will be many flashbacks at the beginning as well, for those that haven't played the game, and also give some background information to properly blend the worlds. Also This isn't a self- insert, so at the beginning at least, canon events will be present and our MC will just be reacting to them, not knowing what's going on in the wider world.
That being said, I do have wider plans for an extended HP AU, complete with new power levels and enemies. It is slowly getting introduced in my current chapters (chapter 70, now that canon has been adequately established. So if you can make it past the world blending and lengthy introduction chapters, I promise the story gets better and more intriguing. Humbly speaking ofc ahaha. *****
Jordan Khan walked along side Professor Fig into the cave structure reflecting on his introductory year so far. It was hard to imagine that because Professor Fig and him were attacked by a dragon, on his first day of Hogwarts no less, he would activate an ancient magic container containing a Portkey, leading him on this crazy adventure to discover this legacy of ancient magic.
And quite the crazy adventure it had been.
He had slain countless trolls, goblins, poachers, dangerous beasts, even the undead inferi in his first year of Hogwarts alone. From solving all the Merlin trials, to helping the different Hamlets around Hogwarts clear out the Poachers, Goblins and Dangerous beasts, him and his 3 best friends have done so much, its crazy to think that it has been less than a year.
He had freed a dragon from a dragon fighting ring, saved a phoenix from poachers, and even rediscovered a lost beast, the golden smidgen alongside one of his best friends from Hufflepuff Poppy Sweeting, ironically enough, the runaway daughter of poachers. She probably influenced and changed him the most. Growing up he had never been an animals/beasts type of person. But after his adventures with Poppy, and clearing out all the poachers from the surrounding hamlets, Khan had fallen in love with beasts. To the point that his personal Room of Requirements had 4 different Vivariums, all custom transfigured to be the perfect habitat for all his beasts rescued. Hunting the poachers, he had rescued quite a number of rare exotic beasts. And Deek was quite happy spending time with all his beasts.
He had learned about his inner animal and animagus transformation, learned wandless magic, saved Poppy's friend Highwing, and even fought confronted and arrested Harlow, Rookwood's Number 2 with one of his first friends from Charms class, Natsai Onai. Grimacing slightly, he thought back to the last time he had seen her; it was during his visit to the infirmary. She had gotten injured saving him from Harlow. He hoped she recovered and wasn't cursed like Sebastian's sister Anne.
And speaking of his last best friend, Sebastian, things were complicated to say the least.
Sebastian was his dueling partner, his adventuring buddy, and his only friend who knew the full extent of his ancient magic secrets. Natty and Poppy knew a lot for sure, and he would tell them the rest after all this was over, but Sebastian was with him and helped him uncover a lot of the secrets behind ancient magic.
Half of the spells he knew were because Sebastian taught them to him directly.
Bloody Hell, the only reason he knew the Undercroft even existed in the first place was because Sebastian told him behind Ominis' back. And they both knew how important the undercroft turned out to be regarding Isadora's secrets.
But Sebastian had become unhinged as of late, trying to find a cure for his sister's curse. He had last found him wielding a relic of dark magic that controlled inferi. Both Anne and Ominis had gone to confront Sebastian, only to ultimately fail to stop him. And To Khan, it really did seem like in that moment, Sebastian had forgotten his ultimate goal, save Anne, and was relishing in the power the relic was giving him. Luckily, the relic was destroyed by Sebastian's uncle, and Sebastian seemed to snap out of whatever power-hungry trace he was in. However, instead helping them destroy the inferi (who had now turned on them with the relic destroyed) his tried to kill us! After a quick duel, Sebastian ends up using the killing curse on his own uncle, right in front of his sister! Shakespeare himself couldn't have written a greater tragedy for Sebastian and his sister. Shaking his head, Jordan tried to shake his head of depressing thoughts and focus on the mission ahead.
Here he was, along side Professor Fig once again, just like the first day of school, about to finish it. Already having disposed of a few goblins who were now invading en masse, they ran ahead towards a wider cave opening, stopping before coming out to a wide cavern, Ranrok's troops gathering in force below. All of a sudden they heard a twisting like 'CRACK'.
The Professors apparated into the cave, wands already casting stunners, Levioso/Depulso Combos, and Glacius/Diffindo Combos.
"The Goblins have somehow evaded the castle's defensive charms." Professor Ronen stated after casting a quick stunner at a couple of goblins.
"Steer them this way!" Professor Onai grunts out, quickly Levioso/Depulso-ing a couple of goblins off a cliff. "We shall make quick work of them!" She shouts out again, stunning a few more.
"They got this" Professor Fig states confidently to Khan as he glances over to the professors in action.
'I thought that with all my adventures, experience in fighting dark wizards and goblins, and my ancient magic, would at the very least make me on par with my professors.' Khan thought to himself in amazement.
His professors had still not moved from where they had apparated to. They stood still, like immovable turrets, casting spell after spell, mowing down goblins with disregard for collateral damage.
He thinks back to most of his fights, dodging, and rolling and escaping by the skin of his teeth. 'I've still got a lot to learn.' Being a self-proclaimed nerd, that was his favorite go-to quote. Shaking his head again to focus up, he runs alongside professor Fig towards the end of the cavern.
Stopping quickly to open his field guide, he rearranged his fast trigger spells, trading out utility spells like Lumos and Disillusionment for combat oriented spells. Glancing over his Field Guide Challenge completion percentage, it read a clean 100%. Being a Ravenclaw, he took pride in fully completing his field guide, solving all the merlin trials, finding all the missing pages, fully exploring all of Hogwarts and the surrounding hamlets and its secrets, finishing all the combat challenges; all before his O.W.Ls. He was truly looking for forward to finally impressing Professor Weasley; she always seemed the hardest to impress he mused to himself before closing his field guide.
Running along towards some goblins, he got himself ready for combat, when out of nowhere Professor Hecat dispatched them quickly with a well placed Levioso.
"Your timing couldn't be better, Professor Hecat!" Khan shouted out in thanks, running under the Levioso'd goblins.
"Thank you Professor!" Professor Fig echos in thanks just after Khan.
Running along, Khan and Fig soon reached a widened cave platform reinforced with goblins and quickly began casting spells, trying to force their way through.
Meanwhile nearby, Professor sharp was fighting a troll. "Expulso!" he yelled, firing the troll like a ragdoll towards a stone pillar, knocking both the stone pillar and the troll away. However, while the troll fell off the cliff to his death, the stone pillar fell in the direction of our hero.
Khan was busy fighting a few goblins and didn't realize the stone pillar was approaching until it was too late. Feeling the air-pressure above his head, Khan glanced up, and saw the stone pillar less than a foot from his head. Crouching down in panic and clutching his head, he tried to duck and did his best to get out of the way. But he knew he wasn't fast enough in his heart.
Right when he was about to be crushed, he noticed with his ancient magic vision, a purple colored spell grab hold of the huge pillar. Noting to himself that it was a Force type of spell, he glanced backwards, seeing Professor Weasley casting an overpowered Accio into a Wingardium Leviosa on the huge stone pillar to save him.
Khan's heart was in his throat, and he was a little slow to react.
Professor Fig motions to him, "That's our way forward."
Pointing towards the stone pillar that Professor Weasley was now carrying over to the end of the platform. Looking where he was directed, Khan saw Professor Weasley skillfully controlling the stone pillar and placing it down to act as a makeshift bridge for them to make it from their platform over towards the ancient magic container.
They quickly ran across the makeshift bridge with the goblins chasing close behind. Jumping across, Professor Weasley let the bridge fall, and with it the goblins still on it. Waving a quick thanks to Professor Weasley, Fig and Khan continued towards their goal. Luckily, there were no goblins on this side of the cave platform.
Moving deeper into the cave structure, Khan saw something he had experienced in the many ancient magic keeper trials before. A huge gate with an ancient magic symbol, being protected by 2 giant ancient protectors. Khan sighed to himself, readying for a great fight as the protectors came to life and slowly came towards them, when Fig quickly exclaimed to him "The wand! Quickly!"
Feeling like an idiot, he took out the special wand with a blue crystal like design, similar to the ancient magic symbol, made from the keepers relics. 'Get your head in the game Jordan' Khan berated himself.
Walking forward hesitantly he held out the wand in front of him. Unsure of if he could even cast with this unusual wand, he didn't even try, holding it out almost as a torch. Luckily, as he approached the wand activated, glowing with ancient magic power. The protectors, noticing the ancient magic wand, stopped and turned their swords towards the floor, eventually lowering them with ancient magic power. That power rippled towards the huge gate, slowly opening it, exposing the final ancient magic container.
Slowly walking into the chamber, Khan states in relief "We made it!"
"Im relieved we got here before Ranrok." Fig states in response, walking just in front of Khan.
Looking at the slowly rotating Ancient magic container Khan states in awe "I can't believe this is it. The repository has been under the castle for hundreds of years!"
Stopping Khan, Professor Fig felt he had to give his protégé a little bit of last minute advice and find out what he ultimately wants to do with this container.
"Think of all the pain that created it. This is what Miriam, George, your friend Lodgok, and countless others died for. Miriam believed this forgotten magic could be used for such good. But she did not know the risks. She did not see what the Keepers have shown you. What Isidora showed you. You are now the Keeper of whatever power it holds." Taking a deep breath he pauses, before asking his ultimate question "What do you intend to do with it?"
Khan stopped to think. If it was before, he probably would've opened it. Before coming to Hogwarts, he had the ultimate pure-blooded confidence in himself after all.
A gifted child, he grew up in a pure-blood household with old money, not wanting for anything. The Ancient and Noble Khan family derived from the old great arch mage and conqueror himself, Genghis Khan. His family had moved to England in the 1600s to escape persecution from China's dynasty (being descended from Genghis), and quickly established themselves as the biggest spice merchants in the country. Their family was wealthy and powerful, with the Khan family magic allowing them to control elemental magic. And Jordan Khan, was the heir and young genius of this powerful family. Teaching himself to read at the age of 2, he had devoured every book in the Khan family library before the age of 11. However, noticing their son was only interested in books, and not wanting their son and heir to become antisocial and unhealthy, Lord and Lady Khan trained Khan in etiquette, and acrobatics as well. An overly smart, well mannered, and athletic pureblood heir; this is who Jordan Khan was, or rather, would have been, had he gotten his Hogwarts letter at 11.
This didn't happen however, and he didn't receive his letter until he turned 15. Having shown accidental magic as a child, his parents knew he wasn't a squib, so they got him looked at by St Mungos. And what they found was baffling; His magic core was still forming. While most wizards and witches absorb magic and form their magic core on their 11th birthday, his core was still absorbing magic right through his 11th birthday. In fact, it would take his 4 more total years to form a magic core. As a result, it would much more robust and powerful than other magic cores.
This wasn't without consequence however. Jordan had lost the overbearing confidence in himself during his time as a non-wizard. Believing himself to be a squib, he became much more humble and subdued and was often seen wandering and exploring the countryside, helping those in need and running odd errands for townsfolk. He still wanted to be helpful, even if he was no longer special.
When he got his Hogwarts Letter on his 15th Birthday, while he was relieved to find out he wasn't a squib, at the same time he was horrified at being 4 years behind all of his peers. Not to mention he had to take his O.W.Ls with less than 1 year of Hogwarts education. Needless to say, any semblance of confidence he had in himself with regards to his family and magic was all gone.
Shaking his head to himself, he chuckled. No, he definitely wasn't that Cocky immature 11 year old brat anymore.
Answering Professor Fig "I plan to keep the repository as it is" Khan states back with confidence. "Ancient magic is too dangerous in the wrong hands. This repository must stay where it is, and the secret will die with me!"
"UGH." Ranrok groans, listening to Khan spout his overly righteous verbal diarrhea. "The Arrogance of wizardkind."
Slowly walking towards Fig and Khan, Ranrok continues "Goblins built this repository. It belongs to us."
"Enough Ranrok!" Khan states firmly taking out his wand. "It was never yours!"
Ranrok takes out a wand of his own, the wand looking very familiar to Fig. "I've been wanting to play with this" Ranrok states evilly.
"Miriam's wand!" States Fig in anger and disgust.
"If she'd simply handed over the container – all of this could have been avoided" Ranrok continues. "Foolish, self-important witch."
"AHHHHHHHH" Fig lashes out a spell in fury, which is subsequently blocked by Ranrok.
"Seems you were two of a kind." Ranrok says mockingly "She didn't know when to give up either." And with the end of that statement, Ranrok fires off a spell shooting past both Fig and Khan hitting the ancient magic container, destroying it.
The Red ancient magic escapes and starts swirling about. Glancing back towards Ranrok, Khan notices him grunting quite heavily with swirls of ancient red magic gathering around him. Assimilating with the fear based ancient magic, his body turns to raw energy as he gathers with the ancient magic escaping from the now destroyed container.
Gathering together towards a single point before expanding outwards in a portal shape, the ancient magic soon gives birth to a Dragon-like Ragnok, seemingly made of goblin silver and ancient magic.
"GoBLinKinD sHaLL AnSWer TO no oNe!" Exclaims Ranrok, in a voice eerily disjointed and twisted in power.
And with that announcement he swoops down towards Fig and Khan, in a dragon-like dive, blowing flames of ancient magic from his mouth, entirely intent on ending these annoying pests once and for all.
Fig and Khan dive in opposite directions away to escape the blast.
As Khan gets up, he looks over towards Professor Fig only to see parts of the cave start to come down around his mentor, as the cave slowly falls apart from the destruction Ranrok and the ancient fear based magic was causing.
"Professor!" Khan shouts out, trying to warn his mentor. Alas, the warning was not soon enough as he sees Fig buried under the rubble.
Unfortunately for Khan, he didn't have time to mourn his mentor right that second, as the falling rubble had caused his platform to destabilize. Tilting forward, it turned into a ramp that Khan had no choice but to side down. By some miracle, at the end of the make shift platform-ramp, there was a giant circular cave platform when Khan could land, and hopefully get his bearings.
Sliding on to the platform, Khan looked around to find Ranrok, and saw him flying around slowing gathering up all the residual ancient magic in the area. "He's feeding off the power from the repository" Khan observes to himself.
"MUAHAHAHA" Ranrok laughs as he comes around to taunts Khan.
"YoUr PitIFul MaGic iS no mAtCh FOr MinE, CHilD!" He states as he lets loose an Ancient magic dragon blast from his mouth.
Dodging quickly, Khan looks around and notices some ambient ancient magic gathering in an orb, close to where Ranrok is flying. Noticing the color of the orb, he quickly fires off the matching color corresponding spell, in this case Glacius, to empower that ancient magic orb and overload it, hoping to set up a chain reaction and damage Ranrok.
Glacius impacts the orb moments later, and a loud bang is heard with the orb exploring outwards and damaging Ranrok in the process. Observing Ranrok, it seems to Khan he is stunned in place trying to control the ancient magic holding together his dragon construct. "That did the trick! I have you now Ranrok! Time to take advantage" Khan shouts outloud, as he casts all his high damage long range spells in quick succession.
Shortly, all his spells available are on cooldown and he can tell Ranrok, is about to regain control of his construct form. Knowing his advantage is about to end, Khan summons his ancient magic power and unleashes a barrage of Lighting heavily damaging Ranrok.
"ARGH! STOP!" Ranrok cries out in pain, "YoU hAVe no iDEa WHat YoU'Re DoiNg!"
In an attempt to gain more power, Ranrok flies away from Khan towards the bottom of the cave structure intending to gather more ancient magic energy.
"You cant run forever Ranrok!" Khan yells out, chasing after Ranrok, hopping down destroyed stone and rubble to catch up.
Jumping on another makeshift ramp, Khan slides down towards Ranrok, wand at the ready, knowing he has Ranrok on the ropes. "There's nowhere to hide now Ranrok!"
Ranrok stops absorbing magic to regard Khan once more before shouting out in fury "GiVe uP NOw and I MiGHt EnsURe tHaT YoUr DeATh is sWiFt!"
In a rage, Ranrok lets out a breath of ancient magic towards Khan, without giving him a chance to respond, forcing Khan to activate his ancient magic, and quickly flash step away to safety. "ARGH!" Ranrok yells out in greater rage quickly firing out more blasts.
Thus began a game of cat and mouse, with Khan dodging, rolling, and flashing stepping away from a berserking Ranrok who was launching fireblasts, firebreaths, and fireballs of ancient magic towards Khan in a fury. All the while, Khan was looking around for another Orb of ancient magic to eventually form, so he could set off another chain reaction and finish off Ranrok once and for all.
A few minutes later, Khan finally got his chance as 3 Orbs of ancient magic formed simultaneously.
"I guess all of Ranrok's ancient magic blasts were good for something, other than me getting me exercise" Khan muttered to himself, quickly hypothesizing the reasoning behind the simultaneous Orbs appearance.
Not wasting anymore time, he quickly fired off the corresponding spells needed to set off a chain reaction in each orb, now setting off a giant explosion of ancient magic directly damaging Ranrok and sending him crashing down to the platform, his dragon form leaking red ancient power from its slowly deforming body.
Seeing Ranrok stunned on the Cave platform, he quickly channels all the remaining ancient magic power in his body, into a giant Lightning blast, striking Ranrok, causing him to cry out in pain and lose more control over his dragon form. This in turn caused even more ancient magic to escape, eventually gathering into a giant ancient magic orb above Dragon/Ranrok's head.
Firing off a Diffindo toward the giant magic orb, Khan yells out "Go to Hell you Bloody Bastard!"
With a BOOM, the orb exploded outwards, destroying not only Ranrok but also slamming Khan backwards with its shockwave.
Weakly, Khan gets to his feet, knowing its not over just yet. Ranrok may be dead, but the red ancient magic is out of control and will destroy Hogwarts if left unchecked. But luckily Khan, wasn't out of ideas just yet.
You see, Khan did a lot of research when he came to Hogwarts. Not just on magic to catch up to his peers, but also on WHY his magical core took so long to develop. And learning of Professor Rackham and Isidora Morganach through the keeper trials and that they also joined in their 5th year, gave him a hypothesis. What if the extra time the core spent developing was necessary for utilizing ancient magic… Was the reason that Professor Rackham, Isidora, as well as himself started Hogwarts late, was because their magical cores took longer to stabilize due to synthesizing with ancient magic? Khan highly believed so, but with very little empirical evidence, he could not conclusively prove his theory.
As he stared at the out-of-control ancient magic slowly destroying the cave around him, he pondered to himself, 'I need to get the ancient magic under control somehow, before it destroys everything. But there's no goblin silver around, and trying to synthesize with that much ancient magic would probably kill me. Not to mention, even if I could synthesize with that much magic, if it took my core 15 years just to synthesize with the ancient magic my body was born with, it would take me well over 100 years to synthesize with this much magic.'
"BLOODY HELL!" Khan cursed outloud. He knew what he had to do. He could only pray that he survived and that his hypothesis was right.
Pointing his wand towards to ancient magic, he funnels some towards him, attempting to synthesize with a miniscule amount as a quick test. Absorbing it into his magical core, he is quickly overwhelmed with emotions of fear, abandonment, pain, and most of all, power. Pushing those emotions aside through occlumency, knowing they are a side effect of synthesizing with this red ancient magic, Khan focuses preparing his magic for what comes next.
Firing a beam of his ancient magic upwards, he slowly begins to absorb the ancient magic, pulling it into his body like a sponge. As his body starts to fill up, he is once again hit with those strong emotions, except this time they are growing stronger as Khan Absorbs more and more. He can feel his core expanding and cracking, slowly tearing him apart from the inside.
This continues for minutes, and soon his occlumency breaks, the fear and pain hitting him full force. Khan wants to quit, wants to stop; just wants it all to go away.
But he holds on. He thinks of his friends at Hogwarts, all of his Teachers and Professors. He thinks of Deek and his beast friends in his Vivariums. But most of all, he thinks of his 3 Best friends, Poppy, Natty and Sebastian. 'I cant let them die.' Khan mutters to himself in repetition, almost like a mantra.
Seconds turn into minutes, and soon the sounds of destruction start to calm down, until eventually all sounds stop. The redish hue that used to permeate the chamber is now gone, replaced by a pale blue ethereal glow. And at the very bottom of the chamber is Khan, slowly lowering his wand, in clear pain, barely managing to stay standing.
Looking around, he sees the ancient magic is now all gone, supposedly all absorbed in his body, slowly being integrated. Sighing in relief, he collapsed in place, and finally let exhaustion take him as his friends and Hogwarts was now safe.
Unknown to him, this would be his last thought for at least 100 years as his now unconscious body was slowly covered in with ancient magic, forming a pod-like-structure around him, pushing him into a coma while his body assimilates with the ancient magic.
Meanwhile, outside the chamber where Khan was passed out, he professors were all done their battle, and were attempting to get through the ancient magic gate with little success.
"Why is the blasted door staying shut!?!" Professor Sharp Yells in frustration.
"It would appear that we do not have the qualifications to pass the gate." Professor Weasley states in observation.
"This is not good" Professor Onai responds. "Natsai will be very upset if we cannot rescue her best friend."
"Our Young friend saved us all." Professor Shah states, trying to keep everyones hopes up. "The least we can do is not give up our rescue attempt".
"I will leave to contact some old unspeakable acquaintances of mine." Professor Hecat adds. "Perhaps there are some in my old department of mysteries, that have studied this form of ancient magic."
The remaining professors continued to perform analysis spells to break through the door, but they were slowly losing hope. The only 2 people who knew anything about ancient magic, were trapped inside that chamber!
"I knew I should've pressed Fig for more details!" Professor Weasley grumbled to herself.
Throughout the single school year she had known him, she really had come to love the boy. She had heard and seen all sorts of wonderful things Mr. Khan had been up to; Always helpful with his classmates and friends, adventuring and exploring all the hamlets, and even saving/discovering an old lost species of snidget. Not to mention, he was not the traditional elitist Pure-blooded heir. Just look at his 3 best friends. All from different Houses, with no attention to race, sex, or blood lineage. And he just outdid himself again, by saving the entire school. Shaking her head of the worrying thoughts, she turns before apparating with a load 'crack', completely missing the wand, with a special blue crystal-like design, sticking out of the rubble just a few feet away.
Finished the game for my 3rd playthrough and had an idea to continue the story; What would happen if our MC was placed in 1994? Human civilization has advanced so much, while wizarding society is essentially the same as it was in 1890-1891. Not to mention, there are many examples of ancient magic in the Harry Potter novels. So who better than our MC who can actually see ancient magic, to help explore that topic as it pertains to the book series?
Anyways, hope you can all support me.
