Capítulo 41: An Old Story (2)

He delved into the contents of what seemed to be the diary of the first necromancer, Ereban, a name he'd heard from Eriol while learning about the origins of Animancy.

What seized his attention most were two key details: Firstly, the treasure acquired by Ereban and Alatar, the first Priest, from the concealed sanctuary of the Animancy Progenitor, whose name had been obscured within the diary's pages. Secondly, Ereban's research laboratory was the very place where he documented his studies in necromancy and safeguarded his master's treasure.

There, he hoped to uncover Skill Books and perhaps even the location of Ereban's Tomb.

From the cryptic poem, he gleaned significant clues regarding the lab's whereabouts. Firstly, it stood in proximity to a village or a site, and a lot of people died. Second, it lay not far from a lifeless forest and a chilling lake, where the temperature perpetually lingered at a low ebb. Third, under the night's cloak, the lab's reflection could be glimpsed upon the lake's surface. Fourth, it remained untouched by civilization. Fifth, the lab perpetually dwelled in shadow, its entry barred to all save those wielding the powers of a necromancer. Lastly, it occupied the boundaries of the kingdom of Gweliven.

He resolved to consult Nevreal and Brolin, inquiring whether they possessed knowledge of a place aligning with these peculiar traits. Furthermore, he would need the help of his little brother Lux, a necromancer, to gain entry.

Ensuring that no intruders could infiltrate his chamber, with windows sealed and shrouded in darkness, he summoned Brolin's soul. While Viel suspected he couldn't use Brolin's soul, he contemplated seeking answers from it without apprehension of retaliation.

"Who are you?! Where am I?" Brolin's soul inquired anxiously.

"Don't you remember me? You attempted my demise, but ultimately, fate took a different turn," Viel responded. "To enlighten you, at this moment, you are merely a soul under my control."

"Now I recall…YOU TOOK MY LIFE!" Brolin exclaimed, attempting to launch an assault on Viel. However, before he could hit Viel, he was consumed by excruciating agony.

"What is occurring?" Brolin questioned, his disbelief evident.

"I've already informed you. You are now a soul under my command. I suggest cooperation if you wish to avoid a repeat of that ordeal," Viel advised.

Hearing Viel's words, Brolin trembled. He had never endured such torment in his entire existence.

"Alright, I understand. After all, you've already ended my life once."

Even as he uttered those words, he unleashed a Dark Energy Beam in Viel's direction. Viel observed this calmly and silently summoned Ferto and Bael.

Ferto intercepted the beam with its shield, leaving no mark on it. Simultaneously, Bael soared toward Brolin's soul and deployed its skill, Soul Drain, which directly targeted an individual's soul, causing him intense pain.

...

"Now," Viel asserted. "Will you listen to me?"

"Yes," Brolin's soul replied, kneeling on the floor, trembling each time he met Bael's gaze.

Once Brolin chose to cooperate, Viel shared information about the hints regarding Ereban's laboratory, hoping he might know its whereabouts.

"With the information you've provided, there is but one place," Brolin's soul spoke.

"And where is it?" Viel inquired.

"The laboratory you seek," Brolin's soul began, his voice fraught with tension, "is concealed within the heart of the forsaken Obsidian Death Forest."

Viel's eyes gleamed with anticipation. "Obsidian Death Forest... I have never heard of it before."

"A long time ago, just after the establishment of the kingdom of Gweliven, a Calamity-rank monster appeared after the summoning from a group of fanatics," Brolin explained. "The monster received the name of Zephyrion, the Ravenous Tempest. It was described as a gigantic whale wielding mastery over the gales and thunderbolts, capable of conjuring tempests at its whim. It destroyed the Obsidian Village in seconds, and with it, everyone living there. But thanks to the first king and other heroes and Saints the monster was subjugated. Upon its demise, a cataclysmic detonation ensued, extinguishing vitality across a span of 10 kilometres, rendering it a desolate wasteland. The only thing that was preserved was a forest of Obsidian Heart Trees that absorbed the energy from Zephiron's death. Therefore it was named the Obsidian Death Forest"

"Will you be able to guide me there?" Viel asked.

"Yes," Brolin replied. "Twilight Rain performed many experiments near it as no one ever goes there."

"Ok. Take this and recover some of your strength." Viel said as he handed Brolin a Rank 3 Beast Core.

Brolin responded fervently, concealing his genuine motives within the recesses of his thoughts.

...

"Hey, Lux!" Viel said as he knocked on the door of Lux's room in the inn.

"What happens, Big Bro? You need my help again?" Lux inquired, still groggy from his nap.

"Indeed, Lux. Apologies for interrupting your slumber."

"Don't worry. Enter and tell me what you need."

"... So you need me to accompany you to find the laboratory of the first necromancer, Ereban, since in order to find it you need the necrotic energy of a necromancer. Is that correct?" Lux said.

"Yes. But don't think that I will only take advantage of you, you may gain new abilities or maybe upgrades for your summons." Viel explained.

"It's true," Lux replied after thinking about it. Actually, Lux would have helped his Big Brother even if he didn't benefit at all. After all, he owed his life to him.

"Is it okay with you if we go back to Solais tomorrow?" Viel asked Lux.

"Yes. I will start preparing now."
