Capítulo 535: Chapter 535: Wrath of the Dragon

Duke could never have imagined that Alexstrasza, the legendary dragon queen whose presence has shaped the annals of Azeroth's history, could show such a vulnerable side.

"Tyranastrasz must've been important to you," he observed.

Her slender fingers caressed the neck of the wine bottle, her gaze distant with memories. "I'm not certain. He pursued me for over ten millennia, yet I never accepted him."

Duke raised an eyebrow, sensing a deviation from the history he knew. In the annals he was familiar with, Tyranastrasz was the queen's oldest consort. Why, in this reality, had he been reduced to an unsuccessful suitor for ten thousand years?

"He was simply too weak," the queen said, a hint of exasperation in her voice. "I am naturally the largest of our kind. Once, in a playful gesture, he tried to approach me. I merely flicked my wing, and he broke seven ribs."

Duke blinked, at a loss for words.

"And another time, when I held back to let him near, I accidentally hurt him, breaking one of his legs."

Duke thought to himself, Ah, that might explain Tyranastrasz's short lifespan.

As she spoke, the queen took another generous sip of her wine. "But feelings, they can arise not just between mates. Take humans and their pets, for example. Over time, a bond of affection forms, undeniable, right?"

Duke simply nodded, sensing that in this moment, what Alexstrasza needed most was a listener, not an advisor.

"For ten millennia! Whenever I awoke, the first face I'd see was his. Before I'd sleep, it was still his face. Despite his weaknesses, he was always kind to me." The queen took another drink. "Yet, despite being hailed as the 'Life-Binder', I couldn't cure his ailment. No matter how much life force I poured into him each morning, by the next day it would be completely consumed by the disease within him."

Duke remained silent. The description sounded eerily similar to cancer on Earth.

"When he realized I was tormented by my inability to help him and was faltering in my protection of the dragon eggs, he volunteered to fight against the orcs... I know he sought a noble end on the battlefield. It was a dream he'd harbored for millennia. Now, choosing to sacrifice himself for atonement, he has found his peace."

Duke sighed deeply.

Somewhat inebriated now, the queen rummaged in her pouch and, after a few clumsy attempts, produced a platinum disc that was mostly depleted. She handed it to Duke.

"This is the possession charm you asked for. I've convinced the other three to modify it according to your specifications."

Upon inspection, Duke felt a shiver of excitement. They really made it for me! He recalled his own sacrifices: disguising himself as an old man, braving the wilderness, enduring the elements, evading dragons from the sky and orcs on the ground, and engaging in mind games with Neltharion.

It was all worth it.

The "Demon Soul", or as the system now labeled it, the "Wrath of the Dragon", was indeed powerful. As Duke had suspected, the four Guardian Dragons' attempt to subdue Neltharion had failed. The cunning Deathwing, driven by his innate connection to the earth, plunged into a volcano, tunneling towards its molten core. Alexstrasza and Nozdormu could have followed, but Ysera and Malygos would have been at a disadvantage. Facing Deathwing in his element, the odds were against them. They had no choice but to abandon the pursuit.

As a reward for Duke's contributions to this endeavor, the Guardian Dragons agreed to purify the remnants of the Demon Soul and transform it into a protective charm against the Black Dragonflight.

The system provided details of this artifact:

"Wrath of the Dragon: A semi-divine artifact, modified by the four Guardian Dragons, excluding Neltharion. This artifact's original form was the legendary "Demon Soul", which once obliterated an entire Burning Legion fleet. After several modifications, it's now a personalized semi-divine artifact for Duke Marcus."

Its effects included the ability to sense when Neltharion was nearby, launching a spiritual attack against his soul, and tormenting any Black Dragon's soul.

Elated, Duke was about to thank Alexstrasza when she beat him to the punch.

"You seem quite handsome as a young man," she commented after restoring his youthful appearance with a mere lick. "Your peers might not admit it, but my mother always said I was handsome."

Feeling the weight of her gaze and the strength of her grip on his wrists, Duke's heart raced.

"Hmm," the queen hiccuped slightly, "there's something strangely enticing about this form."

As Duke tried to process her intentions, he realized he couldn't resist. Before him was not just a red-haired beauty but a true red dragon in her essence.

He found himself pinned down, and as the atmosphere grew tense, he thought, What is the queen up to?
